Hi Andrija. I see that you've already signed your name up to the members' list, so my advice is just to get stuck in with whatever you want to do, as that's what the rest of us do! That being said, there are conventions that are followed across the different articles covered by the WikiProject, which are covered from the "Types of articles" section downwards on the WP:F1 page. If you have any queries, proposals or are seeking any other form of guidance relating to WP:F1 conventions on policy, it's best to start a new topic at WT:F1, as this will likely generate input from several other members of the project. Happy editing!--Midgrid(talk) 17:07, 24 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Re:Lap leader chart

edit

Hi Andrija. The lap charts are separate pages, which are then transcluded onto the race reports using template formatting (i.e. {{example}}). Here is how to create one:

1. Go to Template:F1LapsXXXX, where XXXX is the year in which the race took place. You may need to create this page if it does not exist already, in which case you should copy the code from a page which does already exist.
2. Assuming that no code exists for the desired race, use the following coding as a guide (using the 1995 Brazilian Grand Prix as the example) with instructions for changes in the <!-- --> format:

|BRA <!--Change to the three-letter code for the Grand Prix-->   =
<timeline>
Preset     = TimeVertical_OneBar_UnitYear
ImageSize  = width:250 height:300
PlotArea   = bottom:20 left:40
Period = from:0 till:71 <!--This is the number of laps in the race-->
ScaleMajor = start:0 increment:5
ScaleMinor = start:1 increment:1

Colors =
  id:canvas      value:rgb(0.937,0.937,0.937)
  id:linemark    value:gray(0.8)
  id:linemark2   value:gray(0.9)

BackgroundColors = canvas:canvas

PlotData =
  mark:(line,linemark)
  from:start till:17 color:red shift:(20,-5)  text:Michael Schumacher (Laps 1-17)
  from:17 till:21 color:darkblue shift:(20,-5)  text:Damon Hill (Laps 18-21)
  from:21 till:22 color:green shift:(20,-5)  text:David Coulthard (Lap 22)
  from:22 till:30 color:darkblue shift:(20,-5)  text:Damon Hill (Laps 23-30)
  from:30 till:35 color:red shift:(20,-5)  text:Michael Schumacher (Laps 31-35)
  from:35 till:46 color:green shift:(20,-5)  text:David Coulthard (Laps 36-46)
  from:46 till:end color:red shift:(20,-5) text:Michael Schumacher (Laps 47-71) <!--Adjust all these as necessary, making sure that each driver has a different colour (and that if a driver appears more than once, he has the same colour throughout-->
</timeline>

3. Please note that, within a template page for a season, the codes for each race are in chronological order, so please ensure that any new codes are put in the correct sequence.
4. Go back to the race report article, and add this code to the bottom of the infobox:

|Lapchart       = {{F1LapsXXXX|YYY}}

where XXXX is the year of the race, and YYY the three-letter code for the Grand Prix. The lap chart should now be displayed at the bottom of the infobox.

I appreciate that these instructions are complex, so please let me know if you have any problems. Good luck!—Midgrid(talk) 00:44, 16 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
