Speedy deletion nomination of PolkaSpots Supafly Wi-Fi

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on PolkaSpots Supafly Wi-Fi, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Eeekster (talk) 22:10, 12 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Status and Advice

edit

I apologize for not giving you some fuller advice initially. The article was deleted because of the intersection of two reasons: there was almost no indication of importance, and an article about an unimportant company is generally considered to have been written to promote the company. I recognize the statement about having about a thousand hotspots, but considering the size of other players in the field, I rather doubt its importance. But the problem can perhaps be solved in a way which will make the article possible.

What you need to do is to have references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases. Newspapers are fine--trade magazines are sometimes acceptable. But what is needed is a full review, or a full article, not just a mention. The company's own website does not show notability --though it can be used for plain facts about the services provided. Remember not to copy from a web site -- first it's a copyright violation, but, even if you give us permission according to WP:DCM, the tone will not be encyclopedic and the material will not be suitable.

If you think you have the necessary material, just reinsert it with the references. There may possibly be a discussion about whether the sources are sufficient, but it will not be immediately deleted. If you need a copy of what was submitted, ask me. On the other hand, if you do not now have the references, there's not any point in trying until you do, as there's no chance the article will be considered acceptable by the community here. I do not want to discourage you, but to urge you to write a proper article if it is possible; if it is not yet possible, please help us by improving our other articles on related topics.

Hi there, I appreciate the advice. I am new to this and would love to get something published! Makes a lot of sense what you said and actually really good that wiki does this - gives me a little more faith in the system, so to speak. Moreover, it should help my dissertation!
