I don't think that it should be included in the first paragraph. I think it's just a trivia fact.
Also Cyprus having a so called communist leader doesn't mean that it's like USSR or China or all the other communist countries. I never herd of anyone getting food with coupons and also as far as I know I still own my house and have all my bank accounts and Cyprus always and even now has capitalism.
