Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that the username you have chosen (Albanypubliclibrary) seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.

There are two issues with this:

  1. It is possible that you have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization or adding links to its website.
  2. Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.

Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the guidelines concerning editing where you have a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only you. You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of what username you choose. If your username doesn't represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you. Requested username:

Request reason:

Account is not for shared use, or to represent or promote an organization. More than happy to change username if it is creating the wrong impression. I also welcome any advice or corrections if I've taken any wrong or inappropriate approach with the situation I will now describe: I am employed by the organization (a public library), which was approached by an elderly gentleman seeking help getting some corrections made to an article that happened to be his military/service biography. Genuinely not in the interest of self promotion, he wished only for errors to be fixed, and for some additional (properly sourced of course) information to be added, bringing it in line with the bios of his peers/contemporaries. Following them as an example, I used solely third party sources as the basis for additions to the existing article, included all references, and kept what was already there intact (with a few minor corrections). The article in question can be seen as the only one ever edited with this account, indeed the only one I've ever edited, and I sincerely hope I've done a proper job of it as a first timer. Accept reason:

Looks like a genuine error, so I'm unblocking your account to allow a username change. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. It's clear that you aren't editing on behalf of the library, so there's no promotional intent; once your username has been changed, feel free to carry on editing as you wish.   Comment: As the blocking admin, I agree with Yunshui after discussion. Please understand why the username is not acceptable and must be changed as indicated in the links above. Please do so now, before any other edits. Put in a request and it will be done in a little while, depending on workload in that board. The account will be blocked soon after you start editing with a new name. If you have any questions feel free to ask here. Alexf(talk) 12:38, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
