{{unblock|Your reason here}}
, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Dabomb87 (talk) 01:57, 31 October 2010 (UTC)- Hi, I received your email. We have strict guidelines on which external links are appropriate and which are not, and unfortunately, the one you were adding falls in the latter category. It is true that many other articles link to inappropriate pages; however, that is not a valid reason to allow inclusion of this link (if anything, it shows that Wikipedia is a work in progress and that all articles have room for improvement). I have no problem unblocking you if you can indicate that 1) you understand that you cannot add spam links to articles (especially if you have a conflict of interest) and 2) you describe what useful edits you will made if unblocked. Dabomb87 (talk) 03:25, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Dabomb87, I appreciate your help. 1) I do understand that. I've done a full review of the Policies, and 2) I will herein describe my useful edits: The updates were to describe a type of Walking Cane not listed in the Assistive cane article, but is prevalent. These are canes made from wood and it's many forms, all listed with interesting articles in Wikipedia. How can I write this short addition in order to fit the guidelines precisely?
- Also, I submitted the wrong supporting URL. The correct one is Why-To-Choose-A-Wooden-Walking-Stick written by a third party from a respected web site called About.com. Does this informational URL better fit the guidelines? Grateful for your help, Architect7.
- By the way, how do I use the Sandbox? How does it work for the Wikipedia team to preview my contributions? Thanks, Architect7
Hi Architect, Some clarifications:
- The sandbox is just a place where you can try out anything you like to see how wikis work; it isn't a place to post material for others to review.
- There is no 'Wikipedia team' that previews contributions; but there are thousands of people who sporadically look over recent changes, and each of them knows the style guidelines and policies here reasonably well. If you aren't sure about a contribution you want to make, the way to get feedback from others is to make your addition or change on the talk page of the article (for instance, talk:Assistive cane), in a new section (click on the "+" tab at the top of the talk page), and ask for comments or input. If noone has any comment, you should feel free to make the change.
- The thousands of users who like to browse through special:Recentchanges and advise others on how to use policy are no more authoritative than you or me, save through their dedication to that area of wikipedia policy. They often make mistakes. Be kind, assume good faith, and don't be shy. –SJ+ 22:40, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
User adoption!
editWill you adopt me as a new Wikipedia user/contributor? I'm in Texas working with very creative artisans and craftsmen. Alternative culture and it's historical impact holds great interest for me, as well as alternative, renewable energy. Though I've scaled the skyscrapers in New York City, I enjoy getting out into the wild to see the geography for myself, having grown up in the Montana Rockies. I need help getting a new project started and to do some edits. Thanks for your kind consideration, Architect7
- Hello Architect7,
- I would be glad to adopt you. You should start by editing your user page describing yourself as you do below, linking to the topics you care about and the articles you are working on. And you can sign your messages by typing in
~~~~
or clicking on the button at the top of the edit window that looks a bit like part of a cursive signature. - What sort of project are you thinking of starting? As you work with artisans and craftsmen, you may have access to tools and types of art that aren't covered well on Wikimedia Commons. Have you literally scaled the skyscrapers, like the French Spiderman?
- Regards, –SJ+ 22:32, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for the adoption. I am reviewing all your recommendations and implementing them. My current interest is handcrafted, pre-industrial products. Architect7 (talk) 18:57, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
- That sounds fascinating. Do you have images to share of those products? I don't know how good our general-purpose archeology media are; it seems that many are casual shots from museums not yet replaced by high-quality reproductions.
- Do create a user page discussing your work. –SJ+ 21:06, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
- Try editing in the Sandbox (just follow that link and 'edit this page' once you get there). You can do no wrong on that page, so if you want to test out how tables or wiki-markup work, that's a fair place to do it, or see the efforts of others. –SJ+ 21:08, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
