License tagging for Image:Keith.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Keith.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 19:08, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Picture rights

edit

Hi Arel. (We've met a few years ago in Toronto.) That's a very good picture of Keith, but I notice that there's no information on the copyright status and the rights you are granting Wikipedia (and other Wikis and people--perhaps even RFW) to use it. That means that one of the image enforcement bots will probably tag it and delete it in the next week. I'll take a look at the current options and post a list here, if you like.

Heh, looks like an enforcement bot beat me to it. AndroidCat 19:17, 21 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I've never spent much time at this & was too ignorant to follow the "talk" page. I will check on the best image of Keith to use & try again. I will try to understand what rights I need to claim for the chosen pic, since I will not submit any photo not created by me or our family or someone who would want to make it public domain. I am considering getting more active in editing Wikipedia and may need to submit my edits to someone like you. I might be submitting edits, pages, whatnot as an employee of San Diego State, relating to items/collections, digital and otherwise, in the Special Collections/Library/Archives and research I have done in the process of writing metadata (my regular job at this point). Or should I just work with Keith, who spends a good amount of time on Wikipedia? I'm right now sitting in a session for editing Wikipedia, Edit-A-Thons etc. for the Visual Resources Association in Seattle. (I almost wrote "Toronto," remembering our times there.) Speedy deletion of Image:Keith.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on Image:Keith.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [1], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Keith.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Melesse (talk) 04:06, 14 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
