Booker T. & the M.G.s/Booker T. & The M.G.'s

Hi,

I am trying to determine who created the redirect page that enforced the title of the article about this band as Booker T. & the M.G.s. I noticed from the edit history that you created a redirect, noting that the apostrophe in Booker T. & The M.G.'s is grammatically incorrect. Whether or not the apostrophe is incorrect (and I'm fairly sure it is), it is the way the band preferred to spell their name. Wikipedia does not claim that on the grounds that the Beatles couldn't spell, therefore the article about them should be entitled The Beetles. I have issued a request to delete the redirect away from the page called Booker T. & The M.G.'s, on the grounds that, correct use of apostrophe or not, it is the way the band's name is spelled on the majority of their official releases and therefore presumably reflects how they liked to spell it themselves. My ultimate aim is to rename the article itself to the way the band spelled the name, but I can't do that until the redirect is deleted. As a courtesy, I am informing you of the request for deletion, which you can find here. I hope you will appreciate that accuracy must take precedence over how the band admittedly should have spelled their name. Lexo (talk) 00:55, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

This is just to note that after carrying out a thorough survey of the band's album covers, I have concluded that I was wrong to think that they "liked to spell their name" as "Booker T. & The M.G.'s". The evidence strongly suggests that they didn't care very much how it was spelled, but the most consistent features of the spelling are a capital "T" in "The" and the controversial apostrophe in "M.G.'s". So I have requested the page move out of a sense of overall consistency of style, not because I think it's the "correct" name. In any case, the current page name does not reflect the way the band's name was most commonly spelled, so the page move request still holds.
