Hi, I read this article in a newspaper at the weekend and thought it very ironic in its timing. I'm not sure what it says about significance but it puts the US and Australian Supreme Courts somewhere in the middle and (depending which way you go up or down whether more or less cases is more or less significant) either the UK and Irish Supreme Courts or Canadian and New Zealand Supreme Courts as being more important. Really? I guess I've just been taking them for granted then. It took me hours to work out to ask for those two and now I've had two more posted and the admin forgot again. I find it very annoying, but I don't want to cause drama - but it's irritating me, because having those **'s on main makes it clear that we do censor, and opens up a whole can of worms for the future - back to the Muhammad cartoons controversy etc.

Fascinating isn't it. Imagine the amount of opposition if any equivalent ranked politician from any other country died. All those US users who think that they are the centre of the universe. Don't bite the newbies

(which applies to new participants at a project page as well as new participants at WP in general)... This comment probably could have been phrased a lot better, it is very bitey (as well as somewhat incoherent) You may not realise it, but it's now mentioned at WP:AN/I as an example of the environment at ITN not being very welcoming. In future I suggest you moderate your words somewhat, because, really, opposing Ted Kennedy being in the news... shows how insular ITN regulars apparently have become. ++Lar: t/c 21:31, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

It was very offensive to the regular people who work on ITN. and when u do work regularly u start to see which items should or should not go up. if u read further ahead u will see more people blatantly dissing on regulars for having opposed and no i did not appreciate that. maybe i came out a little harsh but u have to realize on ITN we go through this every week and sometimes it gets tiring reading such offensive comments made against ITN regulars. If newbies want to support then fine i welcome all new members. but atleast try and read the guidelines or see why others are opposing. wikipedia is not a democracy so lining up supports for items is not a criteria that should matter but rather the reasoning behind them, which were not strong enough. -- Ashish-g55 21:42, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

I read the whole page, what makes you think I hadn't? I saw a number of comments from you that were quite biting, that just happened to be the worst of the bunch. Apparently your sense of ownership is so strong that you're not listening to what is being said... Any time a large number of people, not regulars, with long standing experience in the projects (let's review, NYB is an arbitrator, and he's not the only one with considerable standing and experience) come in somewhere and point something out and are answered with policy about why they're wrong???... policy and process at that place are broken. if u thought that my comments were the worst of the bunch then i got nothing else to say i guess since there are some highly offensive comments all around. And i never once pointed out policies... we just have a few guidelines to avoid future conflict such as only posting head of state/x-head of states for deaths. and i dont really know what u mean by housecleaning... ITN is wide open and anyone can come and help including u. but people tend to only show up when something is objected against US. I only speak from experience here. and "I recommend helping, it will be much more pleasant for you. " sounds quite a bit like a threat and again i do not really know what the threat is for... its not like i made the guidelines... u r more than welcome to change them however, it is wikipedia after all. if u feel like google news results should be the main focus for ITN (which seemed like major point for most people) then by all means suggest that and have guidelines changed. but till then what we said was only to follow current guidelines and i do not appreciate people blaming ITN regulars for that. -- Ashish-g55 22:03, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

all i said to cargo was i wonder if anyone will come back... i really dont think thats gossiping. and what RxS is saying below is fine but i have now seen over many years that no one will come to shake anything. people got this item up and then they will wait till another controversial article. i dont really mind if people think we got it wrong. atleast have a little respect for people who work to get 100s of other news items up which were right. -- Ashish-g55 22:18, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

This day has been rather hectic for all concerned, tempers have flared, and some strongly-toned language has been exchanged by both sides of the argument. Oh dear, hmmm... I don't know whether we (or I or you alone) can do anything constructive as that implies a conflict between the so-called "regulars" and the so-called "newbies" which is what is being indicated by the so-called "newbies" anyway. However, if they manage to improve that can only be a good thing. I do agree that making demands and shouting isn't going to help. And I don't know why some nominations ought to be posted quickly and how it is decided fairly that they are so obvious when others are not; the one that stirred up this debate reads as "nomination", "people on the Main Page want this posted", "oppose", "oppose", "oppose" and why should these people support when no logical reason has been offered? Then more opposes, an early support was "This is the last of the [name] brothers who just died"? What does that mean to anyone who wants to approach this logically? Had I been there I would have opposed too on the basis of what had been offered. Then those who opposed were ridiculed and insulted for their ignorance and people were quite clearly getting caught up in their own emotions over what was hardly an unexpected death (didn't Wikipedia kill that guy off before or am I mistaken?) I think that's what most disappoints me about that one now that I'm reading some of it. (That and his poor, unfortunate sister, who died recently having founded an international organisation and given birth to Arnold Schwarzenegger's wife, meaning she had at least two notable family connections, one more than her brother apparently had, and was sent a letter from the Pope yet received one oppose—she was too old—and not much else after I nominated her out of pity at the lack of interest from her fellow countrywomen.) Similarly, the opposers are being harrassed at Oasis and, as I've just joined them, must I expect some ill treatment too? What hasn't happened yet this week I think is the nomination of a relatively significant (political? natural disaster?) event in somewhere such as Africa or South America with little or no coverage in the United States or Europe. The response (or lack of) to such a scenario may be interesting... then again it may not. R.I.P. Eunice. I think myself and the Pope are the only ones who may care (never in a million years did I think I would have something in common with the Pope) but I didn't feel the need to go crying about her across Wikipedia and throwing my toys around because she didn't get some recognition.
