Genre edits

edit

Hi. Please don't change genres. They represent CONSENSUS. If you disagree, start a discussion on the talk page and see if others agree. NEDOCHAN (talk) 09:05, 28 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

May I know from which source we are retrieving the genre for a movie? In my opinion, Joker is a crime film. Very similar movie King of comedy also listed as a crime film. Ashokkumar047 (talk) 10:46, 28 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
That's the thing: it is your opinion. There is no right and wrong and the genre you see represents the WP:CONSENSUS. Consensus can change, however, so the best way to go about it is to begin a discussion on the talk page. Genre edits made without discussion or recourse to the talk page are normally unpopular, as the genre you see in an article has normally been arrived at following discussion.NEDOCHAN (talk) 14:28, 28 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Actually the advice here is only partially correct. First, film genres should NOT be based on opinions, but instead should be based on reliable sources.
Per MOS:FILMGENRE, we are told:
"Genre classifications should comply with WP:WEIGHT and reflect what is specified by a majority of mainstream reliable sources"
Genre edits in particular tend to be a problem, because a lot of editors don't like to see citations in the lead section and will remove them, but the genre(s) should really be cited with inline citations to prevent frequent changes.
NEDOCHAN is entirely correct, however, that you are always encouraged to begin discussion on the article talk page if you are unsure about something, and especially if one of your WP:BOLD edits ever gets reverted. Don't hesitate to discuss the issue! GoneIn60 (talk) 07:39, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
