License tagging for Image:AIB-TroyWilliams(2006).jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:AIB-TroyWilliams(2006).jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 01:04, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:AIB-Boxed(Sml).jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:AIB-Boxed(Sml).jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 06:37, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Excuse me? I have a habit of doing this? Get your facts straight please. 1: You have been warned about this image 2:There was a two week listing on WP:PUI with no comments 3:The picture stated originally "used with permission". That is not free enough for wikipedia, since that implies that only wikipedia may use the image. Not that the image can be modified and used non-commercially and commercially. Also, there was no contact info on the deleted image.
Regarding the current image you uploaded. Again it is stated with permission. Could you send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org stating the image is in the Public Domain or a free content license wikipedia accepts. After this the image will be tagged which should prevent any further disputes regarding the image's copyright. Garion96 (talk) 13:26, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Troy Williams

edit

You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you.

I have provided this note given the focus of your contributions over time has solely focussed on Troy Williams and you have claimed to know the article subject. Even if you are not Mr Williams, the sentiments of the advice apply, particularly conflict of interest.--Golden Wattle talk 01:20, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Golden Wattle, your post has been is both inaccurate, and is quite frankly offensive.
We are a collection of student writing the revised history of AIB. We posted the history of the AIB (and had the authority to do so) and were, indeed remain, happy for others to add and improve it, cognisant of the fact that our views may not be impartial.
May articles here are created with by those with some interest which by their nature may be biased, can you honestly say you have no connection with any article you have written or edited.
If you were to help us repost the AIB article that would be an excellent demonstration of your good faith.
Ausbuild 08:25, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I can undelete and userfy the AIB article and will do so.
I am afraid that your assertion that you are a collection of students does not really ring true. It conflicts for example with your assertion on 19 July that you work in his office [1].
Assuming good faith, if it is the case then I suggest stongly:
  1. you read Wikipedia:About and associated links
  2. if this exercise is set by a course I suggest you read Wikipedia:School and university projects and Wikipedia:School and university projects - instructions for students
it doesn't seem likely that it is a project set by a lecturer given you created the article on 9 September 2006, nearly a year ago
  1. you pay attention to issues of copyright violation - cutting and pasting doesn't meet our needs, even if it is with "the authority to do so". See Wikipedia:Copyright problems and the policy Wikipedia:Copyrights.
I can say that I do not belong to any political party and while I edit articles I am interested in, I do not edit articles about my employer, my relatives (and they have articles), and other topics where there may be a conflict of interest. I do not even edit articles about my local member or a candidate opposing her. So yes, I claim to be holier than thou!
I am afraid I am not interested in the AIB or in fact Troy Williams - worthy person though he may be. I am interested in the project and its principles. In terms of priorities, the building and construction industry in Australia could indeed do with some contributions. Major civil engineering works are poorly written up, the industy itself is poorly documented and major lobby groups, Master Builders and HIA for example are not represented. If you wish to show good faith, then you would tackle the many gaps in this area. However, I am glad to see that you have already decided to diversify.--Golden Wattle talk 23:18, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Troy Williams. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites (http://www.canberraliberals.org.au/default.cfm?action=people_details&ID=36 in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Troy Williams with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article Talk page. Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at Talk:Troy Williams with a link to the details.

Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement. After you do so, you should place a {{hangon}} tag on the article page and leave a note at Talk:Troy Williams saying you have done so. An administrator will review the new content before taking action.

It is also important that all Wikipedia articles have an encyclopedic tone and follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
