Please note that a permission that only extends to Wikipedia is not sufficient to allow an article copied from an outside source to stay. All Wikipedia text is GFDL-licensed; material which is not under a free license cannot be used in articles (with the exception of brief quotations and some images, which fall under the doctrine of fair use). Please have the copyright holder contact the Wikimedia Foundation and confirm that he agrees to release the text under GFDL license. Regards, Mike Rosoft 10:10, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
- In any case, the article has an inappropriate style for an encyclopedia; if not completely re-written, it would probably be deleted anyway even if it were under a free license. Please re-write it in your own words, and have a look at the manual of style and neutrality policy. - Mike Rosoft 10:14, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Talk:Rex gilroy
editHI Can you tell me why I cannot use the text I have submitted?? Aussie959 10:28, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
As I said:
- You claim to have permission to submit the text on Wikipedia. If the permission only extends to Wikipedia, this is not sufficient; according to the Wikipedia copyright policies, all the text must be under a free license. Unless the copyright holder confirms that he agrees to license the article under GFDL (look here for the text of the license), it will be deleted.
- It wasn't written in the style of an encyclopedic article, but rather as some kind of a narrative about the person, possibly a newspaper/magazine article. That's why I asked you to re-write it in your own words.

- I echo the above completely. By the time you have re-written it in encyclopedic terms, the question of copyright violation will no longer apply. Incidentally, the title should be Rex Gilroy and for goodness sake, use paragraphs and headings! One solid slab of unbroken text is totally off-putting. -- RHaworth 18:11, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
Welcome
editI hope that you will continue to contribute to wikipedia. I started what is called a stub, a very short article, using a little of the material you supplied. I am familiar with the name and work of Mr Gilroy, finding a reference to it was relatively easy. As previously (and abruptly) pointed out, the material should be notable and verifiable. Sources other than Gilroy are the first step to improving the article, in my opinion. Try and track down the newpaper articles on him. Have a look in Category:Cryptozoologists for some examples of what the article might look like. Let me know if I can assist you in any way.
