Marking edits minor

edit

Please only mark edits that make no substantive changes to an article as minor. This would include things like spelling corrections. broken links, etc. Adding or changing references and adding or removing text would not be minor. The reason for this is many editors exclude edits marked minor from their watch list and will not see the edits. Thank you for your understanding. JbhTalk 18:45, 4 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Wanted to understand how to add a picture from the laptop to a page in wikipedia

Images are somewhat tricky for reasons of copyright. Wikipedia generally prefers freely-licensed content, that is, images that are released under a free license such as the CC-BY-SA 3.0 License that allows everybody to re-use and modify the content for any purpose, including commercial purposes. If the image you have has been released under such a license, you can upload it to the Wikimedia Commons via their Upload Wizard. If no such freely licensed image can reasonably be obtained, say because the subject is dead but images aren't old enough to have become part of the public domain, we can use a non-free image instead, but only subject to restrictions laid out in the non-free content criteria. Restrictions include:
  • Use of non-free images must be kept to a minimum.
  • Non-free images must be low-resolution.
  • They must be used in a live article; a draft is not enough.
  • Every single use of a non-free image must be accompanied by a rationale on the file's talk page that explains why that use of the image is covered by fair use.
  • Non-free images must be uploaded to Wikipedia itself, not the Commons.
You can use the File Upload Wizard to upload a non-free image that complies with the non-free content criteria. Whether free or non-free, uploaded to the Commons or to Wikipedia, the picture tutorial explains how to display the image in an article once it's uploaded. Huon (talk) 20:37, 4 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
