Just a note about posting links to Fan Sites on Wiki articles and in particular with regard to the Calvin & Hobbes article ...
Links to fan sites have been removed for having a small number of scanned comic strips which possibly fall under fair use provisions, and possibly not.
However, if you are going to remove these links, then you need to remove all links because all fan sites contain scanned strips, or quotes from the book, or scanned newspaper clipings. Under a strict definition of copyright, all of these are 'illegal' and therefore nothing should be included. This is obviously a stupid policy and one which hurts the fans. Better to allow any fan site to link and only remove those that grossly infringe copyright such as if you had every scanned strip on the site.
Links
editAxim2005 - I'm pretty much totally with you! I would like to see most of the fan sites listed that were there before. In fact, I think that Cool Calvin and Hobbes Collection should stay now that I think about it. The reason I removed a few is because we went through a long an drawn out debate over fan sites in the article a while back, and many contributors wanted them removed altogether. I wanted to keep mostly all of them. After all, it's not Wikipedia's job to police Bill Watterson's copyright! What we decided as a compromise though, is that we should organize the links into categories and try to keep the fan sites to a minimum. I wasn't totally thrilled with this, but, hey, it was better than having NO LINKS to fan sites. Let's face it, they have a MUCH better offering than ANYTHING that the Universal Press Syndicate has thrown out there. I run a Calvin and Hobbes Fan site myself (The Calvin and Hobbes Online Museum) so I have seen basically every C&H site there is to see :-). The links that we decided should be removed were those that contained lots of copyrighted comic strips, and those that were nothing but fluff. The reason I removed the link to Cool Calvin and Hobbes Collection is beacuse it had a lot of copyrighted comic strips. But, hey, it doesn't seem like anybody is griping about it right now, so let's keep it! I think it's a great site! Certainly one of my favorites out there on the web! - Mjg0503 16:25, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
Oh, and it seems I did make a mistake a leave a link with some comics on the site (Kim's Calvin and Hobbes Page), and for that inconsistency I apoligize. - Mjg0503 16:30, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Proposed Policy change
editAxim - I am going to propose a change to Wikipedia's external likns policy to allow linking to more fan sites. I'm not sure how far it will go, but I think it's worth a shot. I would appreciate if you would take part in the discussion at here. Thanks a lot! - Mjg0503 20:48, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
