Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the region of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal), broadly construed, including but not limited to history, politics, ethnicity, and social groups, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days in order to make edits related to two subtopics: (1) Indian military history, or (2) social groups, explicitly including caste associations and political parties related to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

- Please note that, per the above notification, you may not make any edits to Indian social groups or Indian military history until you are WP:Extended confirmed. RegentsPark (comment) 14:23, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
- @RegentsPark They have ignored your warning. Zalaraz (talk) 00:37, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for alerting me. I have read the contentious topics policy and realize I should not have edited those pages before being extended confirmed. I will not edit South Asia-related history/social topics until I meet the requirements. My apologies. Batman from Shimla (talk) 10:09, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
- You have edited caste related stuff again in the article on Chudasama dynasty! DO NOT violate our rules and policies. Ekdalian (talk) 17:16, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
- The edit was a sourced, NPOV-compliant improvement addressing the misleading presentation of bardic accounts as historical fact. My intent was solely to improve accuracy per Wikipedia's policies. However, I have noted your concern and will refrain from any further edits to South Asia-related history/social topics. I appreciate the alert. Batman from Shimla (talk) 20:17, 18 December 2025 (UTC)

- You should not make any edits to Indian social groups or military history, however minor or necessary. If you think there is an error, use Template:Edit extended-protected on the article talk page and someone will take care of it. --RegentsPark (comment) 23:52, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
Request for Revision Deletion (WP:REVDEL)
[edit]Dear @Daniel Case: I request the suppression of my past revisions under WP:REVDEL due to technical copy-paste errors involving non-English (Hindi) text and broken code snippets that corrupted the revision history. Thank you. Batman from Shimla (talk) 22:31, 24 August 2026 (UTC)
- Where? Here? In an article? Daniel Case (talk) 22:44, 24 August 2026 (UTC)
- Dear @Daniel Case: On the main article Vakataka dynasty and User talk: @Siya4vm, please apply WP:REVDEL to suppress the revisions containing accidental private Hinglish notes and non-English text. Specifically, this includes the insertion revision [], the subsequent removal revision [], and the comment posted under the section "Very good work" on User talk:@Siya4vm []. Please note that the issue is solely with the accidental non-English notes attached at the bottom. The core edit itself—"According to the sociologist and anthropologist Bhupendranath Datta, the Vakatakas were of local, non-Brahmanical origin in the Deccan. He noted that they adopted a Brahmanical gotra after gaining political power. He also pointed out that the gotra of the Guptas was of non-Brahmanical designation. Both dynasties were originally outside the Brahminical framework and later adopted Brahminical markers for political legitimacy." is valid encyclopedic material, so please restore/re-add this specific text to the article after suppressing the notes if possible. Thank you so much for your time and assistance with this issue. I really appreciate your help. Batman from Shimla (talk) 23:31, 24 August 2026 (UTC)
- @Daniel Case: I note that edits this user has been attempting to make fall under caste and military history subtopics which are under extended confirmed restriction under WP:CT/SA inspite of all the warnings above. Zalaraz (talk) 01:26, 25 August 2026 (UTC)
- Well, if he decides to have himself blocked to stop himself, then that's his prerogative and it's good for the encyclopedia. Daniel Case (talk) 04:31, 25 August 2026 (UTC)
