Intercultural Mediation Definition
editThe term "intercultural mediator" can be applied to mediators or third parties that work with different people by race, ethnicity, gender, nationalities, ect. Intercultural conflicts can be explained through interpersonal conflicts to global conflicts and everything in between. intercultural interactions can be described as diversity or all people that are different from one another. A mediation process needs to be cautious of space, language, time, and purpose. The role of a mediator in an intercultural conflict is to mediate and facilitate any barrier or misunderstand each party may have and bring them to a level playing field.

editI couldn't find your additions to the article on its talk page or your talk page. To make it easier to find the work you've done you could add a section for each wiki assignment on your talk page. You can look at mine to see how I organized it, it's pretty helpful. There is so much information on this article, it's crazy! It is very organized though. I like the sections that it is divided into, and I like that some of them use bullets for easier interpretation. I feel like the amount of information and sections is a little overwhelming, so if some can be combined that might help. The paragraphs are well written and all of the references and hyperlinks work. I really like how well developed the definition is. A lot of times wiki definitions are only a few sentences, but this article provides readers with a better understanding of what mediation actually is. Good work!

editConflict Mediation acquires many different approaches and lenses and in most cases requires a third party. The term intercultural conflict prompts individuals to look at intergroup tensions and barriers of understanding eachother. When we see mediation between two people we have to first use the S-TLC method and look at intercultural conflict influences on the situations. According to Ting-Toomey and Oetzel (2001) the majority of intercultural conflicts that occur in everyday situations consists of minor miscommunication, but can also manifest into major international conflicts and threaten the lives and survival of an entire cultural community.
From many studies (see Brewer, 2001; Ting-Toomey & Oetzel, 2001; Turner & Reynolds, 2004) there has been a common thread that the source of intercultural conflict lies behind being able to identify within one's culture or group. When someone has a sense of belonging they are able to have common interests and be "themselves" among people who are like them. Although identifying with a group is complex, it is a process that is based on many factors.
Mediation can be an important element in facilitating positive intercultural conflict resolution. Mediators may have the ability to reduce conflicts by developing a shared understanding among those with distinct cultural background and identities. Mediators, therefore, have the capacity to reduce conflict and discrimination by acting as a bridge that can link cultural differences, misunderstandings, and disagreements.
