Delicious carbuncle
editOMG OMG OMG DO IT DO IT DO IT! And, when you do begin whatever dispute resolution process with Dc and his socks (and I highly suggest Arbcom or some other advanced level since most other attempts have tried and failed), let me know so I can weigh in with my two cents.207.237.230.164 (talk) 22:53, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
P.S.: Delicious carb, Bali ulti, or Hulla wolf, enter rude comment here, please: 207.237.230.164 (talk) 22:53, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
- I'm sure you already recognise this Bearian but I guess it wouldn't hurt to remind you that you are far too involved in this case and clearly too emotionally invested to exercise any admin functions around Delicious Carbuncle. Cheers Spartaz Humbug! 05:47, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
- Perhaps that's because Bearian has seen Dc's behavior for what it is. Ans I'm sure any other Admin will recognize the same. 207.237.230.164 (talk) 15:04, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I am probably far to personally involved to take part in any such sysop actions, and it is just as well. Bearian (talk) 16:38, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Common law marriage in Scotland?
editHi. I noticed your statement from an AFD last year: "Scotland is the birthplace of common law marriage...".

Survey on quality control policies
editAs part of a project funded by the European Commission (QLectives), we are collecting and analysing data to study quality control mechanisms and inclusion/deletion policies in Wikipedia. According to our records, you participated in a large number of AfD. We are currently soliciting editors with a long record of participation in AfD discussions to send us their feedback via a very informal survey.
The survey takes less than 5 minutes and is available at this URL. Should you have any questions about this project, feel free to get in touch.
Thanks for your help! --DarTar (talk) 10:25, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

New sock of Islamuslim
editHi Brian! I just found out a new created account which I think it's a new sock of Islamuslim, a Muslim serial vandal. Let's take a look at Gimbo Vales and we could see the same vandalism motivations:
Fir more information: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Islamuslim/Archive
Always claiming Muslim population must be between over 1.8 to 2 billion in various articles:
Deleting sources which show-off the evidence of Islamic terrorism and reworded opposite contents to friendly Muslim contents.

Articles for deletion nomination of Eric Ely
editI have nominated Eric Ely, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eric Ely. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.
Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Off2riorob (talk) 19:08, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
- Have you looked into Jimbo's idea of adding this to Wikinews? Stephen B Streater (talk) 17:45, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
Hello. Looks like this user had left a confusing message for you back on March 16th. What he meant was that you'd blocked 203.111.229.246 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) (his ip address). As you can see, that particular ip has engaged in some not-so-great editing. They've just again been blocked this today.
I just happened to notice this & thought I might clear it up. Take care. Dawnseeker2000 17:37, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks! Nice of you to do that. Have a good day. Dawnseeker2000 16:12, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
Request
editCould I ask you to revisit the precise wording of your closing comments here?. I actually think they are correct and clear as they are, but Pigsonthewing [12][13][14] and MJroots [15] are using them as justification for reinserting the date of birth (misquoting you in the process), against consensus (and frankly BLP, in my view, in view of the subject's complaints), and I think your intent. Maybe adding "for the date of birth to be included" to the end", just for clarity. --Slp1 (talk) 14:21, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
Turks in India
editI reverted your recent addition to this article. You'll notice that the State Department's background note refers to Babur as "Turkish-Mongol". This does not mean that he had one ancestor from Ulan Bator and another from Ankara. Instead this is a (rather idiosyncratic/outdated) way of saying "Central Asian of some sort, probably 'Altaic'-speaking".
I filed the AfD precisely because I disagree that the "Turks in India" lemma should contain content about Central Asian conquerors --- we already have a perfectly good article and properly named about that topic: Mughal Empire. And the other topic that might go at this lemma, "Turkish citizen expatriates in India" (NOT the same thing as the guys who conquered India), appears to fail WP:N
I am perfectly happy to see the article kept if you find actual sources about Turkish citizens people in India. Even if it is just tabloid stuff Turkish medical tourism or Turkish beachgoers in Goa. But I don't accept this revisionist attempt to conflate Turkish citizens with Persian-speaking Central Asian conquerors. Otherwise we might as well next make an article about "Germanics in India" to tell us that a few Dutch expatriates live in Mumbai and also the British Empire was run by Germanic speakers and ruled the whole country, or "Sino-Tibetans in India" to conflate the Chinese of Kolkata, the exiles at Dharamsala, and the Newari speakers in Sikkim. cab (talk) 05:43, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

A new editor writes
editI'm new to editing Wikipedia, and you were the signer on two recent reversions made to contributions of mine.
I signed up to contribute to Wikipedia, after seeing this article and then educating myself on Wikipedia's policy of neutrality.
John Q. Public, who hasn't a stake, in any fashion (unless you count humanism), feels the use of the terms fringe and conspiracy are contradictory to Wikipedia's published policies, and I subsequently, edited them out. If the consenus of the editors (regardless of their stance on the actual content of the article) is that the use of the word conspiracy is not controversial at least and therefore meets requirements for being thoroughly examined and removed, then previous talk pages regarding this article need to be examined.
By the way, I do hope, and please help me to correct myself, I put this in the correct place. Wikipedia's use of talk pages differs from my view of them, and seems to be based on tribal knowledge. I encourage and ask that if I've set this wrongly, from a technical standpoint, I be pointed out the place and manner in which replies to reversions, etc. should be handled.

东方红
edit- 东方红 formerly had DIFFERENT content from 'The East is Red'. to the best of my memory:
- Contents of 东方红
- Dong Fang Hong (a space program)
- The East is Red (song)
- The East is Red (film), from the Cultural Revolution.
- Contents of The East is Red
- The East is Red (song)
- The East is Red (film), from the Cultural Revolution.
- The East is Red (1993 film).
- Contents of 东方红
- Notice that the full Chinese for the 1993 film is not merely limited to 东方不败 - 风云再起
- Notice that the space program does not "The East is Red" in its title at all, at least for now.
- for the two reasons and evidence given above, 东方红 is not a mere duplicate and should have stayed.
Deleting an article after discussion from two or three users sets a bad precedent. Learn more Chinese before creating randomly flagging articles for deletion. 华钢琴49 (TALK) 01:06, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

For finding sockpuppetry as noted at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Welshdave86/Archive, and for closing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Grant Avalon with a delete. I was just trying to be nice to a newbie, and got punk'd. Bearian (talk) 16:21, 19 April 2010 (UTC) |
- Thanks. Really a shame, as i was also hoping that there would be something salvageable for that user (That's why i left the SSP case open for two days). However seeing the consistent use of very-likely sockpuppets, an IRC discussion i had with him, the edits made by that IP user, the AFC article and the fact he admitted that all 3 accounts were on the same WIFI meant i ended up with some of these. Hopefully the next user is a better one though - its more satisfying to help a user then to block a sockpuppet in my opinion. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 16:43, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Semi protect Tavi Gevinson's page again please?
editIn January you put a semi-protect on Tavi Gevinson's page, which helped protect the page from vandalism. It recently expired, and the vandals have returned. While she recently celebrated her 14th birthday, she is still certainly a minor and it would be great if you could extend the protection on her page.

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Cory Gunz. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cory Gunz (2nd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:05, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

- Yeah, thanks for jumping in and rescuing Objects visible from space. I keep forgetting that as the "victim of its own success" Wikipedia has dropped its earlier practice of tolerating stubs and now requires a higher level of completion to ensure viability.
- The problem for me is that I often recognize that an article should exist but have difficulty recruiting other (more talented or more energetic) writers to help me get the article to that minimum level. Thanks for the rescue. --Uncle Ed (talk) 21:09, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks
edit- Thanks, Bearian. Ed Poor, of course, is one of the founding fathers, I've only been here for three years, but watched Wikipedia evolve, and, surprisingly, it seems like we've each had some influence in the directions that it's taken. I'd seen your profile-- I'm a middle-aged attorney myself, which might explain my hanging around the AfD Forum so much. Some articles are well done and need to be defended against unreasonable charges, and many can be upgraded with some sourcing; if nothing else, we should suggest places where the contribution can be relocated. elsewhere. I know the old saw that "AfD is not for cleanup", but I think the fourm is where improvement it's most likely to happen, and where people are more likely to learn how to do it. Most importantly, the author should be offered the first shot at it. My belief is that having one's work judged by one's peers might be humbling, but having it rewritten by one well-meaning soul is a lot more insulting. As usual, I've gone on too long, but good talking with you. Mandsford 23:56, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Norway – Sudan relations
editYou are out of line with your comments. Frankly, I expect a lot more out of you, particularly given my extended explanation on that AfD and your admin bit. Your off the hip reply is insulting, to say the least. Not only has a frequent contributor to these AFDs had an enormous ANI started about canvassing, there's been a flood of keep votes that came after the bilateral relations categorization, yours included. I'm not interested in debating notability or even bilateral relations articles as a broad category here (an issue that has a much broader context, that I've taken the time to actually explain). My issue is with your cursory reasoning and your patronizing tone. I'm not an off-the-cuff editor and I spent more than enough time dealing with this AfD. I've been thorough, and I thought I explained myself. Your comments are inappropriate, no matter what sympathies you have towards bilateral relations articles.
