Thanks, will sign if it isn't automated. In the process of taking the photo's at the moment, will let you know how the uploads go. Thanks once again for the advice and help. Beautifulscarlet (talk) 15:23, 10 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
If there is little space for images in an article, you can consider a "gallery" like at History of Diving Museum. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:27, 11 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi Gråbergs Gråa Sång , I'm looking to create a page for a local person called Horace James Cannon (1895-1975) who was awarded the George Cross. Any pointers about creating this page would be welcome. Beautifulscarlet (talk) 13:47, 8 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yep: WP:BACKWARD. Gather the WP:RS you intend to use, then summarize them in your own words, no WP:COPYPASTE outside actual brief quotes. Check WP:TUTORIAL on how to cite correctly, this is essential. Here are a couple of sources [1][2]. And [3] is probably good for info but perhaps not independent of topic. [4] is no good, WP:BLOG.
The first three may be enough for WP:GNG, but 1-2 more strong ones would help against Wikipedians looking at it and thinking "deletion". Consider WP:OFFLINE and WP:PAYWALL. The people at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history may be helpful (you never know).
You can start a draft at Wikipedia:Drafts#Creating_and_editing_drafts and work at it in your own pace, "Publish" here means that you are editing your draft. When you decide it's good enough, you can WP:MOVE it to article space. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:43, 8 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Btw, I happened to notice this question because I put you on my WP:WATCHLIST when we "met". Otherwise when you want someones attention, you can write at their talkpage or "ping" them per Help:Talk_pages#Getting_started. And welcome back! Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:48, 8 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Gråbergs Gråa Sång, I was expecting a notification of your reply which didn't happen and I didn't check my page until yesterday so just tried to compile the Horace Cannon page using other information. Thanks for the heads up on producing a page and the quick reply. Beautifulscarlet (talk) 20:10, 28 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
You should get a notification (Help:Notifications) when someone writes on your talkpage, unless you turned them off somehow. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:21, 28 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
I got this notification immediately, no idea why I never got your original message notification. Thanks once again for the information. Beautifulscarlet (talk) 20:28, 28 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Check "Referencing" at WP:TUTORIAL. There are good semi-automatic tools to make refs look pretty. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:56, 7 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Richard J Appleton moved to draftspace

edit

Richard J Appleton (1856-1946) was the son of an important Bradford photographer Thomas Appleton. Appleton & Co was a Bradford firm created in the 1850's that produced cameras and magic lanterns for sale to the public. The business was based at 58 Manningham Lane, Bradford. Richard started to run the business in the early part of the 1890's and proceeded to purchase the photographic part of the company Percy Lund and Co.[1] X-Rays were experimented with in 1896 with the help of his son Richard Norman Appleton. Cinematography was becoming popular and Richard Appleton invented a motion picture apparatus that included the workings of a camera, printer and projector called a Cieroscope. The Cieroscope sold in his shop in November 1896 for 15 guineas and you could buy a special cinematography lens made by Cecil Wray for an extra 2 guineas. With the involvement of the local newspaper the Bradford Argus Appleton came up with an idea to film Queen Vitoria's Jubilee procession through the streets of London on 22 June 1897 then screen the film back in Bradford the evening of the same day. A railway carriage was fitted out as a dark room so the film could be processed on the journey back up to Bradford. This he succeeded in doing and the film was shown outside the Bradford Argus building on a giant screen the evening of the same day. It was estimated that 250,000 local people watched the film over the next few days.[2] Thanks for your contributions to Richard J Appleton. Unfortunately, it is not ready for publishing because it needs more sources to establish notability and it is promotional and reads like an advertisement. Your article is now a draft where you can improve it undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ❯❯❯ Raydann(Talk) 13:32, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Not sure about promotional, this is what actually occurred and is a famous part of local film history. I believe one of the reasons Bradford became the first UNESCO City of Film was the invention of the Cieroscope. Not sure how you word it that wouldn't read in a similar vein. I have added three more references and will change the wording. Beautifulscarlet (talk) 15:11, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
