License tagging for File:Exxon Fire.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Exxon Fire.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for uploading File:Morning Light.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:29, 15 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

How to proceed with draft

edit

Hi Belinda, I noticed that Draft: A. J. Meek was declined again. Sometimes the Articles for Creation process can feel like being trapped in a whirlpool. I can try to provide concrete advice about how to move forward, but would ask you to do two things first:

  • Please carefully review Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. If you have a close connection to Meek, declare it on your user page and on the draft's talk page as described in the "Declaring an interest" section. You don't have to be super specific, it can be something general like "I am a relative of A. J. Meek" or "A. J. Meek is a client of mine." Make clear, however, whether you are simply someone in their circle, someone who might benefit financially from promoting the subject, or someone being paid to edit Wikipedia.
  • Study the notability inclusion criteria for artists and authors once more. Identify which one of the four criterion you can most easily prove Meek meets, and state 3-4 independent, reliable, secondary sources that prove it with significant coverage of Meek.

A. J. Meek

edit
  1. Reference #10 ("louisianabooknews.blogspot.com") is a blog.
  2. Press releases cannot demonstrate notability, for Wikipedia's purposes, regardless of who wrote them. This is not a question of whether his work has merit or not — public relations materials distributed by the topic themselves, or by organizations directly affiliated with them (such as the company that published his books), cannot in and of themselves override the need to reference the article to media coverage of him. The appropriate referencing for a book that he wrote is a newspaper or magazine article about him which names the book, or a newspaper or magazine review of the book — the book's own sales page on the website of the publishing company that put it out is not enough, because its core purpose is to promote and sell the book rather than to cover it in an objective and neutral way.
  3. Not a single one of the media outlets you asked about in that question is actually being cited as a reference for anything in the article — they're simply listed in a contextless and inappropriate "further reading" section that isn't consistent with how to properly reference a Wikipedia article. That's why they're not counting as "references" at this point — you didn't use them as "references".
  4. Museums and galleries that are exhibiting his work are still, by virtue of exhibiting his work, affiliated organizations that are not sufficiently independent of him — just like the publishing company, the gallery's core purpose is to promote the show and get people through their own front door, not to cover his art in an objective and neutral way. Again, this is not a question of whether his work has merit or not — nobody ever said that it doesn't — but appropriate sourcing for a Wikipedia article has to be fully independent of him.
  5. We don't actually have any requirement that references for a Wikipedia article be available online — if you have access to print-only media coverage that is more consistent with our reliable sourcing rules, then you are allowed to use that for sourcing as long as you provide complete citation details (e.g. "Title of article". Publication Name, Date. Page number if possible. for a newspaper or magazine article, or Author, Book Title. Publishing Company, Year. ISBN Number. Page number if possible. for a book) so that somebody can track it down if they need to verify the details of what it said. If you've got print coverage that satisfies our reliable sourcing rules, then by all means bring it on.

The core issue is that we don't allow anybody, no matter how talented or worthy they may be, to keep an article that's based exclusively or even mostly on their own public relations materials — the article needs to be properly supported by media coverage. It's not that he can never have an article, I assure you — it's just that the quality of sourcing needed to get him an article hasn't been adequately demonstrated yet, which isn't the same thing.
