editThanks
editThanks Theroadislong for your comment. I Think I know how to improve the references and will work on this. There are no undisclosed payements of financial interests whathsoever, although I don't know how to prove this. I can give more information about this if ou want to. Ben Vroom (talk) 13:23, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
2021-07-20 I changed references 6 & 8 and left 7 (to a youtube movie) unchanged. Is this according to what it should be? Ben Vroom (talk) 10:07, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
Position
edit2021-07-20 Some more information about my position: I am a former independant (freelance) Dutch website usability specialist and writer. I had to stop this work because of a visual handicap which allows me to 'work' only two hours a day. Since a few years I do not work to get paid anymore and like to help people who fight for a good cause. That's why I help Merijn Tinga as a volunteer with his his website.
Next days I planned to enrich the other references too. Glad with the help I recieved! Ben Vroom (talk) 18:46, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
Last name / first name
editWhat should I do when a news article on a news-website has no author? I don't know what to fill in at the website template fields 'last name' and first name. In Merijn Tinga reference nr 9 I get a error "|first1= missing |last1= (help)" Sorry, I found the solution. But another question is how I can indicate the publishing date of the article. I indicated this after the First name ("Ilona, (May 24, 2016)") Ben Vroom (talk) 15:50, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
COI
editWhile writing the Merijn Tinga article, I am aware that there is a Conflict of Interest. Since February 2021 I help Merijn Tinga by writing content for his website www.plasticsoupsurfer.org. I am the webmaster write since then all texts for his website. This way I try to help him achieve his goals in battling plastic pollution and plastic soup. Beside the website I wrote most of the text of the Dutch Merijn Tinga wikipedia page. As being the webmaster, I am a member of the Plastic Soup Surfer team, but there is no formal team-structure.
I have no financial interest whatsoever. Since a few years I do not work for money anymore. Before, I worked as a independant, freelance website usability specialist, website usability tester and writer (online / offline). So I do not profit financially from my activities for Merijn Tinga and his organisation. Due to a visual handicap I can only work a little every day, not enough to run a business.
The work of Merijn Tinga as the Plastic Soup Surfer is also not for profit, although he gets paid by the Plastc Free Sea Foundation, a Dutch non profit foundation, and earns some money by giving presentations, but this is only for making a living so he can spend all his time for campaigning and trying to reach the Plastic Soup Surfer goals: a very strong reduction of plastic pollution and plastic waste and stopping the causes of the plastic soup problem.
I think the work of Merijn Tinga is interesting because he has proved to be succesfull by using methods that are quite new in the field of environmental activism. Especially using legal means: getting in touch with CEO's of big companies like Coca Cola, Heineken, Spa and Mars by using a bayliff handing out Judicial Notices and discussing their responsability for the plastic pollution. And collecting tenthousands of pictures from plastic litter caused by a product, such as Mars wrappers, with an app, before going to a CEO of the company which he holds responsible for this with a bayliff and a judicial note. And his ways to get attention for the plastic soup problem: very long kitesurf and sup expeditions, record attempts and movies about this.
CNN wil broadcast a portrait of Merijn Tinga as Plastic Soup Surfer and his ways 'to make a difference' on July 31 and August 1th (serie 'Going Green').
The question is: do you think this information about Merijn Tinga is valuable information to publish on Wikipedia or is the conflict of interest reason for not doing so? This is the question I can not answer.
I have tried to be as objective as possible, stay to the facts and add references to most of the facts I present. Most of these references in Dutch, I can't help that.
Personally speaking, I have great respect for the way you treat this. It has enlarged my trust in the Wikipedia content. And thanks for all the help I got so far.

New attempt to modify the article according to the Wikipedia Standards
editYes, I was disappointed but I sea what you mean and I think ou are right. For me it is confusing in a way that information and references that were accepted on the Dutch Merijn Tinga Wikipedia article, are not acceptable on the English Wikipedia. But I have great respect for the Wikipedia standards and the way you treat this.
I think I understand what to do. I will skip some less important content, references that can be seen as not independent or not reliable and content that can't be proved with reliable references. And I will add some external sources that I did not add so far.
I will indicate on this page when I finished the new draft and if I have specific questions I'll be happy to ask them. Thanks, Ben Vroom (talk) 11:54, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
