The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Invitation to take part in a survey about medical topics on Wikipedia
Dear fellow editor,
I am Piotr Konieczny, a sociologist of new media at Hanyang University (and User:Piotrus on Wikipedia). I would like to better understand Wikipedia's volunteers who edit medical topics, many associated with the WikiProject Medicine, and known to create some of the highest quality content on Wikipedia. I hope that the lessons I can learn from you that I will present to the academic audience will benefit both the WikiProject Medicine (improving your understanding of yourself and helping to promote it and attract new volunteers) and the wider world of medical volunteering and academia. Open access copy of the resulting research will be made available at WikiProject's Medicine upon the completion of the project.
All questions are optional. The survey is divided into 4 parts: 1 - Brief description of yourself; 2 - Questions about your volunteering; 3 - Questions about WikiProject Medicine and 4 - Questions about Wikipedia's coverage of medical topics.
Please note that by filling out this questionnaire, you consent to participate in this research. The survey is anonymous and all personal details relevant to your experience will be kept private and will not be transferred to any third party.

WP:AFC Helper News
Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.
- AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
- The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.
Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Edit Request Tool changes
Hello, I just made some significant changes to User:Terasail/Edit Request Tool. Since you have the tool active, I am informing you of this since it may affect you. To open the tool you will now have to click the "respond" button. The tool will load a similar interface as before. There is now a live preview of the response. WP:MED News
- Since last newsletter, frightfully few medicine articles have passed through our main content review processes, Good Article and Featured Article. While we can agree there's more to editing than chasing bronze stars and green blobs, it would be nice to see the catalog of "Good" and "Featured" medicine articles growing rather than just aging. If you're interested in taking on a project but would like some light guidance or a helping hand, feel free to post your plans at WT:MED and you may find others willing to join.
- An ongoing effort seeks to review/update our oldest featured articles. Major depressive disorder, Lung cancer, and Schizophrenia are next on the chopping block (so to speak). If you're interested in helping to update any, please post at WT:MED or at those articles' talk pages. If you're new to the FA process, I'd encourage you to enlist the help of someone(s) who has been through the process before, as they can help clarify expectations and save you time.
- Got a minute? Running low on inspiration/motivation and need a simple task? Check out the 247 medicine articles tagged as citing no sources!
News from around the site
- The Reading/Web team has rolled out a new skin called "Vector 2022" that will soon become the default. Opt-in in your Preferences to try it out. As with any visual update, it'll take some getting used to. If you hate it, don't panic; once it becomes default you'll still be able to opt-out in your Preferences.
- The folks who brought us the nifty "Reply" button have now rolled out a "Subscribe" button to be notified of comments in a particular thread. I believe it's turned on for everyone now. Try it on a busy talk page (e.g. WT:MED).
- Voting is open for the community nominees to the WMF Board of Trustees, until September 6th.

If you see medicine-related GAs that may no longer meet the GA criteria, feel free to nominate them for attention/reassessment (please, not too many at once, lest we get overwhelmed). I'll incorporate them into the listings above.
- Major depressive disorder, Schizophrenia, and Dengue fever are featured articles that need updating. Feel free to chime in at the talk pages or WT:MED if you have the time/bandwidth to help update. They'll likely go to featured article review for more feedback in the near(ish) future (probably in the order listed).

A friendly note
Hi. As your co-defendant, I just wanted to thank you, for your vigour in pointing out what is the absolute truth, to apologise that I don't have the inclination or the energy to pursue this much farther, and to offer a word or two of advice. You are right on the basic facts, but I think you've fallen down the same rabbit hole I have, which is to err on the side of indignant over-reaction. I'm not only talking about the ANI thread.
Loki's dishonesty, the egregious supervote close, the open gamesmanship from editors like Liliana etc. - these have been most effectively fought by contributions that have been forensic, like Chess and Astaire's early rebuttals, and less by those that were indignant. I don't consider it impossible that Loki is gaslighting for the purpose of generating outrage, in order to distract from the cool dismantling of his arguments earlier. So my advice is to take a breath, and maybe a break. Even if this travesty of a close isn't overturned, the subject can always be revisited later. There are reams of evidence on reliability that weren't even explored at all (like IPSO findings for and against the Telegraph) that can be brought up at any future RfC.
In the meantime, I think arguing on this forum on these terms is counterproductive, even though you are right. Samuelshraga (talk) 06:39, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
IPA
Hi, may I ask what the superscript /r/ in the transcription of your name is supposed to mean? I don't think that there is such a standard usage in the IPA, if this is meant to transcribe some peculiarity of the pronunciation of any one existing accent (your own?). Or are you perhaps trying to leave open the possibility of its being pronounced both in a rhotic and in a non-rhotic accent of English by other people? But then you seem to be ruling out a retroflex vowel, which is how most Americans would pronounce it in their type of rhotic accent whether they want to or not. Also, I think an /r/ in parentheses would have been more unambiguous in this case. Anonymous44 (talk) 23:15, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
