Glasgow Wikimeet 5

edit

Hi BertieB - sorry to see that you didn't get any notification about the Glasgow meetup until too late. I'm really keen to find a way of reaching out to people who aren't on the ScotWiki mailing list, so is there anywhere that you think you would have been more likely to see it, or any mailing lists you're subscribed to where it might be of interest? Anything like that would be really helpful! Cheers ACrockford (talk) 15:14, 3 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hey ACrockford, thanks for getting back to me on that. It was somewhat lucky that I logged in and got a notification at all; I don't edit much any more, as you can see. I am keen to contribute images and especially photographs however, although that might be more of a CC thing? I've had it in my head to go along to the last couple of meetups, but as it happened for both I was busy anyway. I was not aware of the ScotWiki mailing list, though that's my own fault for not having investigated! I'm not sure how you would attract the attention of occasional-editor/contributors like myself - or if they are even your target audience - unless by giving a bunch of info on a talk page then they tag themselves as a Wikipedian in Scotland etc? BertieB (talk) 15:26, 3 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
That's a really interesting idea - definitely something to think about as a way of reaching out to Volunteers. Have you seen the WMUK Volunteer Strategy Gathering that's taking place in Birmingham on 28 Feb? Not sure if you'd be interested, but last time there was a lot of discussion about how to reach out to contributors, whether newbies, occasional contributors, or very active ones. I will definitely raise this idea not only for the Wikipedian in Scotland tag, but in general. If you have any more thoughts you'd be more than welcome to come along, or if you can't, you might want to leave a note on the talk page with any thoughts!
