Conflict of interest guideline

Hello Bestlie. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

• Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
• Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
• Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
• Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

The article was deleted because it read like an advertisement, written in the first person: - "We also intend to help businesses save on costs and enhance their fairness and transparency... " and used promotional language: "eNtoB assists its customers purchase goods easily and quickly... all purchasers and suppliers benefit... Based on its up-to-date techniques... " etc. Wikipedia is not for advertising or promotion of any kind.

Even before your additions, the article read more like a company website than an encyclopedia article, with long lists of products and services, and with no independent references. Subjects for Wikipedia articles need to have WP:Notability, which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject."

Another cause for concern is that there has recently been a flood of articles about non-notable subsidiaries of POSCO, so that it seemed the company was trying to use Wikipedia for promotion by spamming it with dozens of articles. These articles had many different authors, so that it was suspected that there was sockpuppetry - one person making many different accounts in order to give the impression of widespread support.

You say that this was homework from your university, and perhaps that explains it. If a whole class was set to write articles about POSCO subsidiaries, I am afraid this was not a well-chosen project, for the reasons I have explained. In the case of a large company with many subsidiaries, it is best to have one article about the company and mention the subsidiaries briefly within it, unless they are individually notable as explained at WP:Notability (organizations and companies).

I am sorry to have been slow to reply to your second message.

I am also sorry if you will lose marks because the article was deleted. Please show this section to your instructor: marks should not depend on getting Wikipedia edits accepted, because Wikipedia is a complex site which takes time to get to know. There is too much advice and too many policies and guidelines to expect anyone to read it all before editing, and in practice new users learn by making mistakes and having them explained. The important thing is to be willing to discuss problems and to learn from them.

You did much better than most new users, and I think you deserve credit for:

• deciding to improve an existing article rather than start a new one
• choosing an existing one that needed updating, for which you could get accurate information
• making changes neatly
• using edit summaries
• being willing to discuss issues on talk pages

My only criticism of your edits is that the last one introduced text copied from the company's website, which was (a) a copyright problem and (b) too promotional in tone for an encyclopedia. But that is a mistake which many new users make.

It is not your fault that the article was deleted: as I explained, when a large number of articles about POSCO subsidiaries started to appear in a short time, it was suspected that this was "spamming" by POSCO for purposes of promotion. Wikipedia is very resistant to being used for promotion. That meant that even existing articles were looked at hard; and this one, like many, did not show enough evidence of notability - a long list of products, but no references except the company website. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and does not expect to have articles about every company and subsidiary that exist.

Another time, it would be useful to discuss a proposed class project in advance at WP:School and university projects. There is advice there, and links to people who can help.
