Information about our conflict of interest policy
editHello, if the last two letters of your username are a reference to the fact that you work in the field of public relations, please note:
Welcome to Wikipedia. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:
- editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
- participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
- linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Active Banana (talk) 04:10, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use File:The Okee Dokee Brothers, Justin Lansing (l) and Joe Mailander (r).jpg
editThanks for uploading File:The Okee Dokee Brothers, Justin Lansing (l) and Joe Mailander (r).jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Peripitus (Talk) 02:29, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

editHello, I'm Muhandes. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Holy (Justin Bieber song), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Muhandes (talk) 10:45, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the note. I know these artists, who have asked me to update their pages. I will disclose this personal connection if you think it's a conflict, but these are just factual updates, and I'm just learning how to add references to factual information on this one. editHello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:
- Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
- With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button located above the edit window.
This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.
Thank you. — Jeff G. ツ 23:04, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
Much appreciated, Jeff!!! I'm trying to learn. Bethbcpr (talk) 22:48, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
Hello Bethbcpr. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Bethbcpr. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Bethbcpr|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. — Jeff G. ツ 23:06, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Jeff thank you for the information. I am doing these as favors to the artist, so does that mean a conflict of interest? I'm trying to learn Wikipedia. Bethbcpr (talk) 23:21, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- How do you know the artists? Are you working on behalf of a PR firm? — Jeff G. ツ 09:09, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
Jeff other members of a firm I am working with are working with Colin. I will suggest that his office just send over suggested edits. You can reject the changes I made. Bethbcpr (talk) 20:35, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks! — Jeff G. ツ 20:58, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
Conflict of interest
editHi Beth, can you please respond to the question first asked above a number of years ago as to whether you have a conflict of interest with any of the articles you have edited, and also whether you are editing in the course of your work? If you are, you need to properly disclose this as required by the terms of use. Thank you Melcous (talk) 23:09, 17 November 2021 (UTC)
(talk) Hi, Melcous: I've resubmitted Colin Tilley's updates. He has asked me to add these updates. I've tried to add only factual informatin about his newer work and awards, along with relevant media references for fact-checking. Bethbcpr (talk) 22:46, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Bethbcpr thanks for your reply, and thanks for using the Template:Edit request which is absolutely the best thing to do when you have a conflict of interest (which yes, if you are editing at the request of the subject of the article, you definitely do). You are also asked to disclose this - easily done on your user page. And again please note that if you are receiving compensation for editing or editing in the course of your job, (e.g. you work in PR for these people as your username implies) then this is a requirement of the terms of use you signed up to when you created your account here). You can read how to do this here: WP:PCD, or you can ask questions here and other editors including myself will try to help you! Thank you, Melcous (talk) 22:57, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
Thank you!

- I think the subject of the article is worthy of at least a brief article. Her work with some of the top artists in pop music is noteworthy, as is her GRAMMY nomination. Another contributor added new references from established media outlets. I think the other text has been simplified, and unverified facts were removed. Please reconsider leaving this article up, or please recommend how to edit it so that the information is acceptable. Bethbcpr (talk)BethBC Bethbcpr (talk) 22:05, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Bethbcpr: How goes it. I might be worth commenting on the actual Afd discussion here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jamee Ranta. Please follow the WP:AFD instructions. Remember it is not a vote, it is a discussion. scope_creepTalk 22:39, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
