Article Proposals

March Against Fear: In 1966, The March Against fear was a civil demonstration that made it’s way throughout the South led by members of the Civil Rights Movement. The long march was an attempt to defeat the ongoing racism issue and encourage Blacks to vote. This relates to Black Politics because this theory focuses on Resource Mobilization in regard to relative deprivation. This collective action resulted from repeated conditions of deprivation and feelings of frustration. It would be a good article for the assignment because, it lacks that Information can be added to improve the content such as implications and what the march led to or resulted in.

National Black Assembly: The National Black Assembly was a convention held in 1972 for mainly black people to stand up for themselves and not depend on a system that has left them oppressed for many years. It was a call to action for Black Politics stating a need for radical fundamental change. In relation to the Wikipedia Article, this stub lacks pretty much everything. It is considered an orphan as it only has one sentence. I can add content to the article, use additional citations for verification. I can add additional links to related subjects and improve the entire quality of the article.

Police Power: Police power has always been a problem as officers abuse it and disregard people of color. Due to these officers’ actions people of color, especially black men, are extremely effected. This has a huge impact on Black Politics as it relates to the mistreatment of blacks in government and society. To improve the Wikipedia article I can tie police power to black politics and use links to stories to prove how it has negatively swayed the black community. Also include photos and illustrations to demonstrate police power as it restricts certain rights dependent on race.Bhorton14 (talk) 00:24, 8 March 2017 (UTC)Bhorton14Reply

At this point you're behind on getting content up on your page. I want you to skip the step of pre-writing in your sandbox and start adding content directly onto your page. Mosterbur (talk) 13:48, 24 April 2017 (UTC)MosterburReply

Notes and plagiarism concerns on National Black Political Assembly

edit

Hi, I'm your content expert for the course. I received a notification that some of the content you added to National Black Political Assembly was taken from another source, namely this news article. Please avoid adding things like this to the article because this is seen as plagiarism, as it will come across like you are representing this as your own work. This is also considered to be a copyright violation (WP:COPYVIO) since the news article content is assumed to be copyrighted to the journalist or newspaper. Content must be written in your own words.

I also did some judicious editing of the page, as there were a few things that caused me some concern. The first is that in one or two places the article didn't seem very neutral. Avoid using phrases like "famous", as not only is the phrase subjective but it can also come across like you are championing for the NBPA. I also noted that the portion of the article that contained the copyrighted content (Achievements/Impact) came across as original research, as the section implies that the rise in black representation in politics was directly related to the NBPA. This may be so, but you can't link them together like this without a lot of sourcing to back this claim up and also not without stating who is making the claims. In general, however, you should also be backing up any claims - especially claims of numbers, history, and statistics - with a reliable source.

Finally, I removed the section on notable leaders. The reason for this is that this section predominantly focused on these leaders' work outside of the NBPA and as such, would be seen as redundant to their existing articles and would also put WP:UNDUE weight upon these figures. This isn't to say that they shouldn't be mentioned at all, just that when you cover them in the article you need to cover their actions at the conference.
