WEEK 4----
Blog posts and press releases are considered poor sources of reliable information. Why?
Blog posts and press releases are considered poor sources of reliable information because just about anyone can make a blog post or release a press statement. These are not scholarly sources. the information given could be right or it could be wrong, but there would not be a way to verify whether or not the information is correct. Most of the time, these sources give opinion.
What are some reasons you might not want to use a company's website as the main source of information about that company?
You may not want to use a company's website as the main source of information about that company because it would most likely be biased. The company's website is going to advertise and sell themselves to compete with other companies, so they can look the best and have more clients/business. The company may lie and fluff up their information. It is better to look at other websites that have reviews concerning that company, written by poeple who have had personal experiences there that they would like to share with people who are interested in learning more about the company and their services.
What is the difference between a copyright violation and plagiarism?
The difference is that plagiarism is copying someones exact work and claiming it as your own words while copyright violation is stealing someone else's idea and claiming it was yours first.
What are some good techniques to avoid close paraphrasing and plagiarism?
Some good techniques to avoid close paraphrasing and plagiarism are to know the matter that is at hand well, rephrasing the idea multiple times, citing and giving credit where credit is due, and most importantly understanding what it means to plagiarize and what the consequences can be. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Biancafrancis (talk • contribs) 04:09, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Pierre_Brissot
This is my character. I chose this article which is a biography about Jacques Pierre Brissot. I feel like the page is good already, there is not too much information on him so it suffices. However, I see there is not too much information on his personal life and interests, which I know I can fill in the gaps for. The last time this page was edited was last week, by me.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asturias
I chose this wikipedia page on Asturias, Spain. I have extensive knowledge on this region of Spain because my family is from there. I also have a high school diploma from Spain. This page is good. Rich with information. It could use more information about the people that live thee, culture, and tradition.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CrossFit
I chose this page about Crossfit because I myself used to be a member of Crossfit for a long time. I feel like it can have added information in the "Effectiveness" section as well as in its history and why it came to be in the first place. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Biancafrancis (talk • contribs) 04:30, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Biancafrancis: Hm, I'm not sure you understood the assignment, Bianca. Choosing Wikipedia pages to edit on Crossfit and Austurias is not in line with the goals of this course assignment. Your task was to look up possible topics regarding the French Revolution, not random topics that you feel comfortable addressing. You need to go back and investigate other pages that you can add to that are related to your page on Brissot. If Brissot's page is too extensive already, then you need to think of topics that are associated to Brissot that you can add to. Alfgarciamora (talk) 19:06, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

The article I am choosing to edit is on my character Jacques Pierre Brissot de Warville. His page is already full of information, but it is not very detailed. I can definitely add more details about his personal life and interests. Also, he started The Society of Friends of Blacks. Although his current Wikipedia article already mentions that, it does not go into full detail about how he started it or why. I would also like to add more information about Brissot's involvement with the Girondins.

Week 5
edit@Biancafrancis: Well done for this week. Just some changes: you need to put this information on your sandbox user page, not the talk page. Also, you need to organize it so that it is readable and you must put in your citations using the Wikipedia formatting. Take a look at Isabella Arcos' page to see how that looks like. What do you think of Wikipedia's definition of "neutrality"?
Wikipedia's definition of neutrality is a functioning idea. When it comes to a source such as Wikipedia, one that is used by millions around the world at any given time, it is important to have a neutral point of view that excludes bias.
What are the impacts and limits of Wikipedia as a source of information?
Wikipedia is definitely a substantial and practical source for just about any topic anyone could ever think of. The impact is endless, because there is a ceaseless amount of ideas and topics to read and learn from when it comes to new or old information. The limits, however, are restricted because one must remember that anyone in the world can edit any page at any given time.
On Wikipedia, all material must be attributable to reliable, published sources. What kinds of sources does this exclude? Can you think of any problems that might create? If Wikipedia was written 100 years ago, how might its content (and contributors) be different? What about 100 years from now?
The sources that are excluded are sources that are not accepted by a scholarly faction. This may create problems as a good and true idea or fact may be lingering out there but has not been accepted as a scholarly source. Also, as times change, so does information and ideas, and it is difficult to keep changing this information to keep it up to date as a scholarly article. If Wikipedia was written 100 years ago, all content would be from books, and nothing could be proved as more "scholarly" than another. Contributors would probably be authors who wrote books on those subjects. Because of this, things would probably be more biased. In 100 years, I believe it will be just as it is in present day, except maybe it will not except articles that are not scholarly.
week 6
edit@Biancafrancis: You have some nice sources. It seems all you need to do is use the citing tools to list and organize what you have onto your actual Sandbox. Ping me on my talk page if you need any help organizing your information onto your sand box, I'd be glad to help!

–––WEEK 7–––
@Alilykat Thank you for taking your time and checking out my sources. I will start using the citing tools in order to make my information clear. Once again, thanks for the feedback! <
Théorie des lois criminelles
_____________________________
I want to go into one of Brissot's works, Théorie des lois criminelles. Although it is mentioned in the wikipedia article currently, it does not go into further explanation on what the purpose of the piece was. It was actually a plea for penal reform written in 1781. The pamphlet was very provocative and unheard of at the time, and therefore Brissot was imprisoned in the Bastille.

Declaring war against Austria
_______________________________
There is already quite a bit written on this topic, but nothing reveals Brissot's intention on declaring war against Austria. The motive behind of declaring war was to fortify and secure the revolution.
