Take Care in Creating a Special Class of Editor and Restricting them based on that class
editIf you are not aware of this effort to restrict and punish paid advocacy then you should be. Based on that RFC there is significant opposition in the community to creating a new class of editor and then levying requirements on that class that other editors don't have to endure. Those in opposition are pretty consistent in saying the community should focus on content policies/guidelines and not editor behavior (current behavioral rules not withstanding) in dealing with problematic classes of editors. As a campus ambassador, I am in full agreement that professors and students should be familiar with and comply with Wikipedia norms when using WP in the classroom, but I would be very much opposed at creating class based barriers for students and professors that don't apply to every other editor in the WP community. It will be interesting to see where this goes. --Mike Cline (talk) 17:58, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
- Mike, what do you think of that? Thanks. Biosthmors (talk) pls notify me (i.e. {{U}}) while signing a reply, thx 13:03, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
Lots of sticks, not enough carrots
editYour proposal as currently written sets up a lot of bars for people to get over, without much in the way of incentives. That will probably result in fewer people playing by the rules, not more. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:41, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
- Jonesey95, what we have here is a very very rough draft I threw down in a matter of minutes. Could you please suggest a carrot or three? Thanks. Biosthmors (talk) pls notify me (i.e. {{U}}) while signing a reply, thx 12:45, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
Venue
editWhat's your proposed venue for this RfC? Are the ambassador roles even up for consensus? I thought they came from the Foundation. czar ♔ 01:29, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hey User:Czar. Well, this "brainstorming" pre-RfC will need a lot more prepration for it to go live. But just because something came from the foundation, doesn't mean we have to keep it. On Nov. 1 the WP:WEF takes over. =) Biosthmors (talk) pls notify me (i.e. {{U}}) while signing a reply, thx 12:45, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
PILLARS
editWe have to be guided by WP:PILLARS, otherwise the terrorists vandal students have won. Stuartyeates (talk) 00:04, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
