By His Bootstraps

edit

Hi Birgitta! I saw your comment on By his bootstraps talk page. You seem like a very smart and erudite person. Could I recruit your unpaid labor to edit the article some more, including the plot description(about Genevieve and also about Bob's music purchases, and whether Bob was a version of (Bob)Heinlein himself(Bob does say I'm from Missouri at one point)), and especially any insights you have? Thanks for your time and best wishes! Rich (talk) 20:59, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

What you ask sounds like original research, what is frowned upon in wikipedia…? Thank you for calling me smart and erudite, though :) BirgittaMTh (talk) 10:28, 29 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

The Master and Margarita

edit

I found some usable references for this article. A reference cited systud.msk.su. This may be "Research Institute for System Studies [Information Technologies], Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia" and ru:Научно-исследовательский институт системных исследований РАН. Victor Anatolyevich Vassiliev has a redlink: Research Institute for System Studies that does not seem to be cited on ru:Васильев, Виктор Анатольевич. As I cannot understand Russian, would you make a translated stub for Research Institute for System Studies ? Thank you. 2601:646:200:120:C0B3:FD0E:F5C8:B992 (talk) 16:31, 14 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Alerts and notifications turned off and I cannot turn them on

edit

Last notifications I got 27 July, I guess, and after that this bell and and box – alerts and notifications – remain grey and show no numbers or anything, even though my watch list seems to be in order, proper filters, checkmark in checkbox 'web', as war as I understand (admittedly, not much…) technicalities. What to do, if i want notifications, as they used to be – every time coming back I saw what changes had been made, since I opened wikipedia and sisters last time. Sorry, but I think I'm not the only one who doesn't understand your question, or what kind of answer the candidates should give. I think all these candidates are aware that English is a world language, yes. Drmies (talk) 18:54, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

That's what I hope :) (But was not totally sure, after reading some candidates' userpages.) Just that I've seen plenty of articles on worldwide things, written from pretty narrow POV of USA (or at best including countries where English is one of official languages). And it is good to remind arbiter-electing-community, and arbiters, that while this is not essentially wrong, as English Wikipedia is for americans, too, but that this POV might be challenged, and I think this is where possibility appears that arbiter might have to say something. (Sometimes I have strong feeling that mention of USA does not belong in preambul of article, when subject is worldwide. But if I deleted this part, I'm afraid it might start edit war or smth.) Also, when importance and relevance of article might be challenged, not sure, if this is possible, but, say, there is a person, just barely important enough for e.g. Estonian and Latvian historians, to deserve wikip article, our only common language is English. But person is not important for official English-speaking world. I hope I am seeing ghosts here, and actual English Wikipedia policy is to encourage to write articles in English about small-language-cultures, so's to spread knowledge in wide world. :) All this seemed too much to put into question for potential arbiters, so it was kind of implied in simple question what can be answered with simple yes. Or elaborate, if they feel like that. BirgittaMTh (talk) 08:35, 29 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Help! I am logged out of my account and cannot log in

edit

e-mail address what was linked to my profile is no more valid and i cannot renew my password on my new laptop. I hope there is some possiblity to make my profile global, from Estonian wiki? Last time I tried, apparently this global thing is only for newer users. Not for so old-timer as me. Yes it is me, BirgittaMTh here writing. 2001:1530:1001:71A0:CCB4:52CD:E508:30D0 (talk) 15:20, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please see WP:LOSTPASSWORD. If you do not have access to the email you used to create your account, unfortunately your account cannot be recovered. You could try contacting a steward (I think m:SRUC is the right page) but I'm not one so I'm not sure what they can do in this situation. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 15:33, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
This magic never fails -- after some whining the problem disappears itself, so's to shame you for whining pointlessly. Found my password, logged in. BirgittaMTh (talk) 09:38, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Is that like walking into a room and instantly forgetting why you went in there? Glad you found it, now don't forget to update your email ;) Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 23:22, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
more like pushing a door what's marked PULL, or trying to unlock a door and failing - bc it is unlocked. and complaining. :) BirgittaMTh (talk) 16:09, 21 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
