I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Betty Blayton Taylor, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

Images

Hello, Blayton. I noticed that one of your recent edits added a link to an image on an external website or on your computer, or to a file name that does not exist on Wikipedia's server. For technical and policy reasons it is not possible to use images from external sources on Wikipedia. Most images you find on the internet are copyrighted and cannot be used on Wikipedia, or their use is subject to certain restrictions. If the image meets Wikipedia's image use policy, consider uploading it to Wikipedia yourself or request that someone else upload it. See the image tutorial to learn about wiki syntax used for images. Hello, GorillaWarfare, I am trying to upload a picture of Betty Blayton-Taylor but I am getting confused by the copyright rules. We have pictures that we own and we have pictures that we have permission from the photographers to use. As I understand the rules, these are copyrighted pictures and not "free use." But under the copyrighted photo rules, it seems that photos of individuals are not allowed, but I am sure that I am not understanding clearly, as many Wikipedia pages have photos of individuals who are the subject of the page. If you can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

Hello Oscar! Thank you for trying to add a photograph to this page. If you own the copyright to the image, you can upload it at Special:UploadWizard and select "This file is my own work". I know this is a little confusing wording, since you did not necessarily take the photo yourself, but when it expands you will see that it clarifies itself to mean that you own the copyright. You will have to decide which license you wish to release the image under—there are some explanations at Commons:Choosing a license, although most people choose to go with the default license. Once you've uploaded the image to Commons, you can include it at this article.

For images where you do not own the copyright but have permission from the photographers to use them, it's a little bit more complex. Because uploading an image to Wikimedia Commons means that not only can the image be used on Wikipedia, but it can be used anywhere (usually with some restrictions, which are explained on the "choosing a license" page I linked above), the photographer will need to explicitly authorize this. They can either do this by creating an account and following the steps I outlined above, or they can send an email to permissions-commonswikimedia.org, attaching the photograph and using text like Commons:Email templates.
