That school

I've put St Thomas More Catholic Upper School in my watchlist; I'll revert should I get the opportunity, but you seem to be taking the honours right now. --Tagishsimon (talk) 23:41, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

FE Colleges

Great work in tidying up the list and creating missing article. Lugnuts (talk) 07:56, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

I'd go with whatever the parent article is - IE St Helens, Merseyside would be fine. Lugnuts (talk) 14:08, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Merger

Before you start any more discussions on mergers, can you read the existing replies? Thanks. anemoneprojectors talk 01:14, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Central Bedfordshire

Any particular reason for reverting my edits? Given that there are fewer than 50 places using this template, I would say it is far from standard. Thanks! Plastikspork (talk) 01:12, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Mass removal of Sixth Form Colleges and other Cats

Just wondered what is behind the mass removal? What is the plan? Is there a discussion somewhere that I can consult? 21st CENTURY GREENSTUFF 21:11, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I was wondering that, as Gosforth High School which you removed the category from IS a 6th form college. TubularWorld (talk) 21:49, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
OK, sorry. Thanks for the clarification. TubularWorld (talk) 21:57, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Hello, I was wondering why have you removed sixth form colleges from the sixth form college category on a mass scale? What is your reasoning behind this? Have you proposed this to other editors? Thanks. Jennie--x (talk) 22:17, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Additionally, I have noticed you have left (in some categories) only schools with the title college. Just because a school does not refer to itself as being a college, does not mean its sixth form is not a sixth form college. Jennie--x (talk) 22:20, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Oh, thanks for clearing that up. Jennie--x (talk) 22:25, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

I assume these sweeping changes have been discussed in depth somewhere with the other educational editors? What about the growing number of sixth form colleges that, although they may be attached to a school and started life only servicing students from that school, now have new separate buildings on the school grounds, accept children from other secondary schools in the area, have dedicated tutoring staff and have the title "Sixth Form College" over the door. Where does this mass catagory change leave them? What do you have planned to replace the removed catagory? (Please answer here as it is making the conversation difficult to follow by jumping around several other talk pages)21st CENTURY GREENSTUFF 22:41, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

As per your examples - many schools call their 6th form departments 'colleges' and yes, even house them in separate buildings etc. However, what ever they call their 6th forms, they are still part of the school, directly managed by the school governors and administration, and receive funding from the local LEA.

Sixth form colleges proper, are not funded by any local LEA, they are independent insititutions who receive their funding directly from the Education and Skills council. I have never thought of these category changes as contraversial OR sweeping. I am only changing categories in line with what wikipeida articles say. Please see the difference between Sixth form and Sixth form college Bleaney (talk) 22:46, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

It is OK, I fully appreciate the difference between the two. I am only concerned because one of the most important uses of this catagory was to enable parents to be able to easily trace the overall provision of sixth form education in a particular area or region. This is has become increasingly important with the wider opportunities of educational choice. The catagory removal is disabling that search facility and surely has to be replaced with some alternate catagory eg. "Sixth form provision at Secondary Schools in Greater Manchester" etc. Or am I totally at sea here? 21st CENTURY GREENSTUFF 22:54, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
If you feel that a separate category for schools with 6th forms is necessary then please go ahead, my point is that they shouldnt be in the the sixth form colleges categories. Bleaney (talk) 22:56, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Well firstly I simply do not have the time to devote to it ... the task will be monumental ... creating a master cat, then a sub-cat for each LEA, then re-adding every school with a 6th form to the the new cats ... but with the utmost respect surely that should be an integral part of the current project you took upon yourself to perform and I assume you have a list of all the schools you have affected. I take it from your responses that you didn't actually discuss the implications with anybody else before you started? 21st CENTURY GREENSTUFF 23:04, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
No I didn't. I didn't think it would be that controversial. To be honest though, Wikipedia is not a 'guide', parents should have the sense to know that schools in a local area have 6th form departments. Most LEA's do have guides on-line for 16+ education choices. this is not wikipedia's job. Bleaney (talk) 23:08, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Hopefully it will not turn out to be overly controversial. Time will tell, but it would surprise me if I was the last 'educational interested' editor to pop in here to discuss the change with you over the coming days. Hey Ho, I am off to bed. Nice chatting with you. 21st CENTURY GREENSTUFF 23:18, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
(s)he's right. I have no idea what you are doing or why you did this. Your edit summary recorded that you used HotCat (not really interested) but didnt tell me why ... I guess this was discussed with WP Schools? Victuallers (talk) 20:32, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Adcote School has a 6th form! - After reading the above it puzzles me why you should want to have the school removed from the category. The reasons are not clearly defined or agreed. This was previously undone by another user.As above the edit summary records this was using HotCat.Gary Wright Adcote (talk) 20:44, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Clarification to all

I understand that a few are a little upset on here on me removing various schools from the Sixth Form College categories. To clarify (again), many different types of educational insitiution in the UK can offer sixth form education, but in statute their is only one type which is called a Sixth Form College. Sixth forms that are attached to schools are NOT sixth form colleges. All I have done is cleaned the category to reflect that. Bleaney (talk) 20:51, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Stick by your guns, you’re doing good work; the schools sixth form sector is a separate and colossal area which needs someone with tons of time as there will be thousands of such schools. On the other hand there are only about 200 FE colleges and 100 sixth Form colleges and they could be dealt with as a separate entity. I agree it would be useful if wikipedia could be a resource to help parents in big cities identify choices for their children to take A levels. I just think that would be a nice bonus but it would be secondary to being an encyclopedia. Somebody could do a real service by coming up with a way of categorising the sixth form providers for each area big enough to have choices of A level provision. I’m not sure I’m up to it, but if you want to make such a category (or can suggest it to someone else), then good luck.
I’ve found a list of all incorporated sixth form colleges – if that would be any use for you, let me know Zagubov (talk) 13:46, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! I would dearly love to have the time to categorise ALL types of sixth form provider in any given area. However, as you say, the task is monumental and would require a huge amount of laborious edits, and like you, i'm not sure i'm up for it at this stage! I would really like your list of incorporated Sixth form colleges though, as I would like to list all of them etc, and route out anty rogues etc. If I could have that, that would really help me! Bleaney (talk) 23:31, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi again and thanks for your help. I don't know how to contact you to pass on the list but instead can you visit http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2010/uksi_20100624_en_1 which should (I hope) be up-to-date. Let me know how you get on and if you need a hand I'll see what I can do Zagubov (talk) 22:45, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Putting cathedrals in the sea

In this edit to Cathedral Church of St Marie, Sheffield you omitted the negative sign on the longitude coordinate, thereby consigning the cathedral to the North Sea where - according to google, it resides to this day. No probs, just one of those things; it was fixed on wikipedia some months later. --Tagishsimon (talk) 18:22, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 19:02, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the wonderful improvement to Houghton Conquest. Cheers, John Vandenberg (chat) 00:28, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
Thank you! That particular article had been a mess. It's still no way near perfect but at least it makes some sort of sense now! Bleaney (talk) 00:36, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi there. I don't speak English natively so I am probably missing something here. The term "Award X presented by Company Y" is very prevalent. I could give hundreds of examples if required, but just the first three from google search: The Buzz Awards, Presented by Adweek Magazines, First-annual LPGA Global Media Awards Presented by Rolex , Country Doctor of the Year Award, Presented by Staff Care. So what's wrong with the sentence I used? I established the factual correctness through a source, so I must be missing something on the grammar. Can you direct me to a source on the matter? Best regards, and happy editing. --Muhandes (talk) 07:54, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
