New page reviewer granted

Hi Blethering Scot, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the new page reviewer user right to your account. This means you now have access to the page curation tools and can start patrolling pages from the new pages feed. If you asked for this at requests for permissions, please check back there to see if your access is time-limited or if there are other comments.

This is a good time to re-acquaint yourself with the guidance at Wikipedia:New pages patrol. Before you get started, please take the time to:

You can find a list of other useful links and tools for patrollers at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Resources. If you are ever unsure what to do, ask your fellow patrollers or just leave the page for someone else to review – you're not alone! – Joe (talk) 11:14, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello Blethering Scot/2024,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

New language page

@Blethering Scot I just created another language dialect page for the Bujeba dialect of Equatorial Guinea. Could you possibly give it a review? Or have it reviewed for me? Or have it connected to a Wikidata? Thanks. Fdom5997 (talk Fdom5997 (talk) 19:42, 10 August 2024 (UTC)

Request for clarification

Hello,

Please I’m a bit confused and thought to reach out to you for clarification. A page I created Orondaam Otto was marked as revised by you on 16/08/2024. However, I noticed that it is still in the list of unpatrolled pages. Was it only the redirected that was revised or the page as a whole? I look forward to hearing from you soon. Cheers! Page Curation

Hello. Seems like your tool Page Curation adds an extra line at the top [1][2]. Christian75 (talk) 07:26, 23 August 2024 (UTC)

Page curation (2)

Dear, it would seem that you spend quite some effort at "page curation". While I appreciate and respect your effort, I am afraid I find it little relevant. Whether my actions are "curated" or not, I will stand by them, anyway. So: yes, do keep up the good work! But there might be better fields to apply your drive and energy and motivation ;) Sincere thanks, and my kindest regards! Jan olieslagers (talk) 23:07, 24 August 2024 (UTC)

3r siege of Tobruk

I think this is a typo and should be '3rd siege'... Regards Keith-264 (talk) 15:15, 26 August 2024 (UTC)

I assume you are talking about the redirect to the article Axis capture of Tobruk. Whilst the redirect contains a typo, whereby that may be helpful i.e. a likely typo we would not delete it. That's why I was happy to review it as ok. There is already a link of 3rd Siege of Tobruk in place. Blethering Scot 15:53, 26 August 2024 (UTC)

redirects

Do you only review/patrol redirects? I still have a number of outstanding other redirects and new pages that need to be patrolled, some dating back to April. I would appreciate if you would review/patrol them when you get some time. Iljhgtn (talk) 16:51, 26 August 2024 (UTC)

Speed of reviewing

Hey Blethering Scot. First of all, thank you for your efforts at reviewing at NPR. I am however concerned about your speed of reviewing, especially now that I see Wikipedia:Database reports/Top new article reviewers stating that you completed 2,023 reviews over the past 24 hours and you've apparently reviewed more than User:DannyS712 bot III over the last 30 days. 2,000 reviews in a day is not a reasonable rate and it's a rate that suggests proper caution and care may not have been given. So, could you slow it down and try to be a bit more thorough? Also, if you're reviewing that many redirects you should consider nominating users to have their redirects auto reviewed at WT:RAL. It's one of our best methods to help keep the backlog down and focus reviewer attention where it should be. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:53, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

Hey, first of all if you look deeper I very much review the easy ones, and have left any that require more thought, or deeper investigation. There is a huge amount that are creating a backlog for a backlog sake. Re RAL I was actually typing to find out yesterday if it was portable to nominate people, rather than apply themselves, but couldn’t find it. Whilst I do understand your concern about speed, and I’ll take that on board, but I’m not concerned about missing any. During September I was planning on looking at the more difficult ones. Blethering Scot 13:02, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
Even if you believe you're being careful and thorough, I don't think 2k in a day is a reasonable, and I think others would agree. Either way, as you said, you've heard my concern. Anyways, WT:RAL is the place to nominate others for redirect autopatrol. I did so I believe for 100+ people before I became an admin and started managing the list directly instead. The general criteria is 100+ problem free redirects. If they have redirects deleted at RfD they're less likely to be eligible, unless it was a one off or there's been a lot of good work creating redirects since then. I call CSD G6 (technical deletions), G7 (self request), and G8 (target was deleted) no-fault deletions, where we don't hold it against the person being nominated. R3 deletions (implausible typos or misnomers) are something we will consider as a point against their judgement when considering whether to have their redirects autopatrolled. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:08, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
Oh, and a good way to check how many redirects they've created is this link at XTools. Make sure to select the "only include redirects option"! Hey man im josh (talk) 13:12, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

Redirect autopatrol list

Hi both of you. I know it may be against protocol to specifically ask to be nominated, but both of you have reviewed/patrolled my own redirects at least dozens of times each in the past. Maybe one of you could nominate me for this? I did not know it was even available until @Hey man im josh just mentioned it above. If this is out of place, please let me know and ignore my request. Iljhgtn (talk) 21:26, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
You can self-request at Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Redirect autopatrol list#Requests if you want :) –Novem Linguae (talk) 21:32, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
You actually are already on the list @Iljhgtn, the bot is just down at the moment it seems. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:26, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
Would I get a notification from the bot if it reviews a redirect? I have never seen one before if so. Iljhgtn (talk) 15:14, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
@Iljhgtn: You will unless you turn notifications for reviews off in your preferences. I only added you yesterday or the day before I believe. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:16, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
I see. What is the name of this bot so I recognize it? Iljhgtn (talk) 15:17, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
User:DannyS712 bot III. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:19, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
That one only recognizes very select redirects I believe and not all of them created by someone on the list, correct? Iljhgtn (talk) 15:21, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
It does very select types of redirects for everyone, but it also does all of them created by someone on the list. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:22, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
I understand now. Thank you for clarifying. Iljhgtn (talk) 15:25, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

Note

Fine... i will update sevens football page, but if any sock returns, let you know. Cenderabird (talk) 20:31, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

If you are concerned about sock puppets please report them through the normal channels, which it sounds like you are aware of. You do not need to notify me. I have no interest in this, only that you seek consensus should you wish the article to be deleted or redirected, as sockpuppets and whether it should be an article are totally different things.Blethering Scot 20:46, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
