Move to queue

edit

Happy new year. I've had a look through your talk archive as to why you can't promote preps to queue yourself. I hear what you say but suggest that it's possible to use the tools in that one (DYK) area of the 'pedia only. Whilst some experience the RfA process itself as stressful, I reckon you'd have a chance of getting 100% support (unless there are skeletons somewhere that I'm not aware of). Happy to chat offline if you wish; my email is open. Schwede66 19:13, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Schwede66, thank you for the expression of confidence. I'm simply not interested in becoming an admin, which I know will prove stressful to me—not the RfA, but the everyday. As you will have seen, people do occasionally try to recruit me for admin ranks here, most recently in January 2023. While I'm honored, I haven't changed my mind, and this past year has had my lowest level of Wikipedia activity yet. I'm happy with what I'm able to do now, keeping track of things around DYK and working to help various areas move more smoothly. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:07, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
You are doing a very fine job indeed. In my books, with 1748 edits during 2023, you are not a "low activity" editor, but I do acknowledge that you had higher edit counts in years prior. Personally, I find mopping at DYK a totally stress-free experience. On few occasions, I've been "yelled at" at ITN. Editors often don't like it when you read them the riot act, but any admin could choose to simply not go there. Be it as it may, it's of course your choice.
If you do experience stress and it's caused by another editor being unreasonable or worse, please consider reaching out to me. I may weigh in if I think it appropriate. Schwede66 21:29, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, Schwede66; I appreciate the offer. My stress levels around DYK are virtually non-existent, and have been for some years, but they weren't always—there was a period where things were toxic on the DYK talk page, and is part of why I gave up building prep sets. (There was also someone else then who was later identified as a sock who made things pretty miserable and got away with a lot of crap; it was a relief when they were finally blocked.) Should something particularly untoward occur in future, I'll let you know. I hope you're having a happy new year! BlueMoonset (talk) 23:31, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

FP Mentorship

edit

I see you around at FP, and I want to have a successful FP nomination without stumbling up (I have done this many times before) so I'm asking you to mentor me so I can hopefully pull some strings to make a successful FP nomination (maybe multiple)! 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 06:45, 12 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

TheNuggeteer, since I'm not sure what you mean by "FP", I'm clearly not the right person to be a mentor. If it has anything to do with DYK or GAN or the like, then there's no point at the moment, since you're not allowed to participate in such processes for the next several months. I'm also troubled by the phrase "pull some strings": Wikipedia is merit-based, so it's quality work on your part that will ultimately be rewarded, not trying to game some processes. I hope you'll give this some thought, and when you do find a mentor with extensive experience of Wikipedia and FP, you pay close attention to their guidance. Best of luck. It's totally ok

To call me just Piotrus. My full name from the sig can be a bit cumbersome :) Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:11, 31 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Piotrus, thanks. I usually do. The reason I didn't that time was sheer laziness: it was easier to copy/paste that segment of your sig than a smaller part, which would have required two copy/pastes plus a little typing. (I don't like to use ping and the rest of those templates, so it's typically a sig copy to save time.) BlueMoonset (talk) 01:52, 31 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
