Or map
editHi. This map is based on considerable original research and inaccuracies. It attempts to highlight areas where piracy is allegedly rife. However, this was not the purpose of the political map on which it was based (c.f. [1]). The supposed piracy affected areas it highlights in Puntland have actually been piracy free for some time, thanks largely to raids by the regional authorities. In fact, many of these coastal towns and hamlets now have actual garrisons of Puntland naval forces stationed in them. This is all documented on the Puntland Maritime Police Force article as well. Further, the map insinuates that the secessionist Somaliland region in northwestern Somalia is somehow legally distinct from the other autonomous regions in Somalia. In actuality, it too, like Puntland, Galmudug, and others, is constitutionally and internationally recognized as a Federal Member State of the Federal Republic of Somalia. For the map to be usable it first has to remove any reference to non-political affairs, including piracy. It also cannot attempt to insinuate or in any way imply that the Somaliland region is somehow legally separate from the rest of Somalia, as that would be a breach of the policy against advocacy.
