Michigan–Michigan State basketball rivalry new content

edit

Thank you for your additions to Michigan–Michigan State basketball rivalry. Regretably, Wikipedia requires that content be WP:V and your content appears to be WP:OR. Can you please provide a WP:RS before I have to remove the content that you added.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 11:47, 1 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

TonyTheTiger, I just saw this note. Yes, I understand the dilemma, and I will try to reference the data. For much of it, however, I just used other Wikipedia articles as source. Is there a proper way to source something like this? Thank you. Bnosnhoj(talk) 6:10, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
If you are copying from other wikipedia articles, they are not valid sources. Either copy the sources from the articles that you are copying text from, find new sources or remove the content that is unsourced. Maybe I should just undo what you have done and you can readd anything that you can find a source for.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 07:16, 5 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for expanding that table. What were your sources for them though? Let me know and we can add them in a ref somewhere. Thanks - JohnInDC (talk) 12:03, 17 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

JohnInDC, Thank you for commenting! I'm glad you appreciate the updated table. I've been working on it in my sandbox, and I'm now applying the finished version on the article with sources. Let me know if you had other suggestions; I'd like to begin putting similar tables on other rivalry pages to aid in uniformity across the project. Bnosnhoj(talk) 3:17, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
You changed a lot of figures - like consensus all-Americans - that I didn't see reflected in the sources you cited; also you gave both schools identical post-season all time records, which I don't think is right either. I restored it to the version before your last edits so that you can pin down the sources better. Thanks. JohnInDC (talk) 05:08, 18 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
JohnInDC, Sorry this is so belated; I've been terribly busy. You'll notice that I've updated the table once more. This time, I think I have enough citations in the right spots. Some sources (like the bowl records) are applicable to many categories (bowl appearances, bowl record, Rose Bowl appearances, etc). You were right; I had OSU's bowl record off by one. I, too, was surprised by how similar they were! With regard to the All-Americans, the discrepancy is due to many players winning the honor multiple times. I chose the player count approach as the category is "All-Americans" versus "Appearances on All-America teams," though this is really a minor detail. The last thing is the numbering due to the 2010 OSU NCAA vacations. I think it is best that we put asterisks erring on the side of inclusion versus exclusion. Wikipedia is not governed by the NCAA, so even if the school nor the NCAA recognize wins that did happen and bowls that were played, we ought to, as an encyclopedic community. We are, of course, obliged to include the asterisk, but only to tell people that the number is contested. I am an International Relations major, so pardon my analogy, but I think this is similar to, say, the Armenian Genocide or the State of Palestine. Neither Turkey nor Azerbaijan recognize the Genocide, and only a handful of states recognize Palestine. Both, however, are reported in an (attempted) unbiased manner on Wikipedia. These, at least, are my thoughts. I hope you have a good Thanksgiving! Bnosnhoj(talk) 23:02, 26 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
The number isn't contested at all. OSU voluntarily surrendered the victories. OSU's official record does not include the vacated games, so they are not properly included in the records of the two teams. This was discussed extensively at the article Talk page (see the archives), where consensus was to exclude the vacated games; and the upshot is encapsulated at Wikipedia:WikiProject College football/Vacated victories. So I'll be revising the table to reflect the school's official wins. Your choice to enumerate players rather than slots is fine, I guess, being annotated as it is - though others might disagree. There may be a uniform approach across CFB pages that I"m not aware of. I think what I'll do in that regard is move this entire discussion over to the Talk page, where other editors can weigh in - let's continue the discussion there. WikiProject Big Ten

edit

If you want to try resurrecting you can, but you'd have to find a strong core of users that want to help out there in order to have any chance at success. Big 12 and ACC actually look dead as well, so individual conferences may be too small to sustain a project. Wizardman 00:37, 1 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Template:Rail-interchange

edit

Updated to include Detroit People Mover and M-1 Rail. Check it and see if it works for you. Secondarywaltz (talk) 19:33, 28 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Wonderfully! Thank you very much! Bnosnhoj (talk) 19:42, 28 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hey, so I saw that you updated Template:DTC stations to include Grand Circus Park Station because I moved that page. Should all other stations be added to that template? Does it distinguish between the two lines (DPM/M1)? How exactly do the rail succession templates work? Sorry, I'm just curious. Also thank you so much for your help! Bnosnhoj (talk) 04:55, 29 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Do you intend to rename Detroit People Mover stations from a suffix of " (Detroit People Mover)" to a simple suffix of "Station"? The conflicts will be Broadway Station which is a disambiguation page, and Financial District Station and Times Square Station which are redirects to other stations. Do you intend to create articles for M-1 Rail stations? This is important because the template {{DTC stations}} establishes a naming convention for all Detroit stations and, before I modified it, the links you created to M-1 stations had the same default as the DPM ones. Secondarywaltz (talk) 11:51, 29 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
I do not intend on moving the other DPM ones because they don't intersect with M-1 other than Grand Circus Park. I also felt safe in doing that, because it wouldn't cause a redirect to another article (it was Detroit-specific enough). I do intend on making articles for all M-1 stations. I did Sibley Station yesterday. Is there a specific way to name them? How should I best move forward? Now here's another interesting tidbit: DPM and M-1 are not related under DTC. They're separate systems. For the purposes of Wikipedia, however, should we pretend they are the same system using different lines?Bnosnhoj (talk) 03:17, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
You have really screwed up the naming conventions. We now have Grand Circus Park Station, Name (Detroit People Mover) and Name Station (M-1 Rail). I can deal with either Name (line name) or Name Station (line name) or even Name Station. So please pick one and let me help you set things up. Secondarywaltz (talk) 05:22, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Oh gosh, okay, sorry! Let's do Name (line name). I'm usually pretty good about figuring out the technical bits of the editing world here, but I just can't seem to for this one. I can't thank you enough though. Feel free to revert my move of Grand Circus Park Station. The M-1 stations will be moved to follow suit then to, for example Sibley (M-1 Rail) from its current Sibley Station (M-1 Rail). For the possible future though, should another line ever share a station with M-1 or DPM, how do you name the page, as it is no longer just that one line's? Thanks. Bnosnhoj (talk) 05:33, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Okay! An occasional different name can be dealt with, but multiple choices makes things too complex. I'll be back in a minute once I check out if I can get this to work. Secondarywaltz (talk) 05:45, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
That is now a simple default with only one different name. See {{DTC stations}} for the settings. I have another couple of things to work on, but they can wait until tomorrow. Secondarywaltz (talk) 05:52, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

MDOT and template renaming

edit

I have renamed all DTC templates to MDOT to cover the entire state. This will allow for the use of the same structure in other Michigan projects, such as MiTrain. There is no reason to create a different series for each system and, as we have seen, there are some advantages in keeping a familiar standard layout. If you find I have missed something, please fix it. Secondarywaltz (talk) 15:28, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good. Thanks! Bnosnhoj (talk) 15:35, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thoughts on stations

edit

How about renaming the section "Notable places nearby" to "Destinations" which would justify the station's existence, rather than being merely incidental. While you create the articles, you can leave me to work up the coordinate templates. Please see {{Infobox station}} for the current parameters and usage. Secondarywaltz (talk) 17:58, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good. I'll use "Destinations" in the new ones and fix the others as well as the current Infoboxes. Canfield (M-1 Rail) will be the first done using these suggestions. Bnosnhoj (talk) 18:09, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). I received your message on one of my talk pages somewhere about my work on the Michigan State House districts. You're right, I have pretty much abandoned the project, as I became much busier with work than I used to be. However, before making the pages, I did create all 110 maps, so if you'd like to continue where I left off, feel free to let me know how you'd prefer the maps sent/uploaded. Proposed deletion of Trevor James (football)

edit

The article Trevor James (football) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Football coach who fails GNG and NFOOTY. May become notable once (and if) NISA is accepted as fully-pro league at WP:FPL, but not yet.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.   Hi Bnosnhoj.  I wanted to let you know that political endorsements must meet all three of these criteria:

  1. The endorser must have an article or be unquestionably entitled to one
  2. This endorsement must be covered by reliable and independent sources
  3. Coverage of the endorsement needs to use the word endorse, or other closely related synonym.

This is covered by the consensus at WP:ERFC.

For that reason, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, poker websites, and blogs are not acceptable sources. Also, donating to a campaign or showing up to a campaign rally are not endorsements. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you - MrX 🖋 14:56, 8 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
