Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate your contributions, they did not seem appropriate for a Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a WP:CRYSTAL BALL and cannot predict what will happen in the future. Similarily, this is too much weight and not enough balance for an article about a school, especially when it is concerning minors (see WP:BLPPRIVACY and WP:MINORS). Please do not just undo my edit without discussion first. Further discussion can continue of the WP:Talk page but these edits are not suitable for a Wikipedia per the policies above. The changes you made are not backed up by reliable sources and once again, too much weight and not enough balance for an article about a school, especially when it is concerning minors (see WP:BLPPRIVACY and WP:MINORS). School articles

edit

Hi, BG. I'm John from Idegon, and I'm one of the coordinators of Wikiproject Schools. I noticed Hickory Shirt suggested you talk to me about your work in the article about the school you attend. Some things you may not understand (and that's fine. Everyone who starts editing Wikipeda has misconceptions):

  1. The article on your school is NOT "the school's page on Wikipedia. This isn't social media.
  2. The school has no control over the contents of the article. Additionally, as a student, you have no special position to edit the article. As a matter of fact, if it becomes apparent that you are unwilling to abide by Wikipeda's policies and guidelines, you have a conflict of interest as a person with a close connection with the subject of the article, and your editing can be restricted based on that. We don't want that and neither do you.
  3. It was wrong of your teacher to assign you to edit the Wikipeda article on your school without knowing how Wikipedia works first. If he or she has a problem with that, they are welcome to register an account and discuss the matter with me on my talk page.
  4. The article is not for the school. If a topic is mainly of local interest (which is to say you have no sources from outside Metro Boston), that's a pretty good indicator that what you are writing about does not belong in the article.
  5. You cannot consider this article in a vacuum. There are guidelines for school articles, and, lacking a consensus on the article's talk page, you're expected to follow them.
  6. Core policies must be followed at all times. Writing for an encylopedia is not like what you write in school. Here, we write about what is written about a subject, not directly about the subject. If you haven't got a reliable independent source for it, you cannot say it.
  7. If an addition you make is removed, it stays out until you've successfully gained consensus for it by starting a discussion on the article talk page and arguing from sources and policies why it should be in the article. See WP:BRD.
  8. Except for copyedits, every addition of fact you make should be accompanied by a reliable independent source. A few mundane things can be sourced to the school, but anything else requires independent sources. Example: In the athletic section, there is a claim of several state championships for a sport, but the attached source only verifies one. That's not acceptable.
  9. The article on the school is about the institution, not the people who attended or worked there. Outside the "Notable alumni (or people)" section, the only person who should be named is the current principal (in the infobox).

I'm more than willing to help you do this right, but you've got to commit to the notion that the article is here to summarize the facts about the school that have been written about elsewhere in a way that serves our intended audience, which is the entire English speaking world. If it isn't relative in Boise or Bhopal, it likely doesn't belong in the article. John from Idegon (talk) 05:14, 31 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
