Wikibreak
I need a break from this place, so I'm off for an indefinite Wikibreak - I will soon be logging out and will not be reading this page for the duration but may pop in from time to time, so I will not be able to may or may not respond to any messages. My apologies to those who had asked me for help which was still outstanding, but I will not be able to assist. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 17:11, 4 July 2013 (UTC)
- I'm sad to know you will not be around for a while, I find you to be a fair and insightful editor and administrator. Considering the melee currently taking place at AN over a particular block, I understand your frustration and your need to leave for a time. Take care. Hope to see you back soon. -- Winkelvi ● ✉ ✓ 19:13, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

- Don't drop the bit per the request at WP:BN. I know it is frustrating, but there has to be a better solution than walking away. Feel free to email me. Dennis Brown | 2¢ | WER 10:11, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

- Your frustration has been evident, Boing, and understandable, but I agree with Dennis - we need sensible admins who care about the project. I hope your break isn't too long, and that you will be back soon, ready to fight your corner once more. :) Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 10:25, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
- I agree. The fact that we have a too many idiotic US-based civility wonks among the admins, for example, is as good a reason as any for a non-US, sensible and forgiving person to retain the bit. We need people who can see the big picture in order to at least try to offset the policy pedants. - Sitush (talk) 10:28, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
- There is a distinct possibility that I'm an idiot from the United States, but I'm not a civility wonk. I don't think nationality is the issue. I can name admin on both sides of the issue, on both sides of the pond. Dennis Brown | 2¢ | WER 11:54, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not from the United States, but I do note the irony of Sitush of all people unpersoning people due to their perceived nationalities. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) (talk) 12:12, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
- Chris, your name is already on my personal list of admins Wikipedia would be better not having, even though you are not US-based. We've not had much interaction but I've seem you around and I've rarely been impressed with your admin functionality, although your other stuff has seemed good. Doubtless, the feeling is mutual or at least would be if I were an admin.
Dennis, there is a massive cultural issue and the offended/civility-pushing Yanks seem to outnumber the offended/civility-pushing Brits where identities are known, although I accept that there are some Brits who are offended and there are some Yanks who are not. The entire policy is a pile of crap and should be jettisoned: you cannot consistently enforce moral standards across cultural divides. Still, I'm not going to be around as much for a while, so unless my meds send me even more weird it is unlikely to affect me greatly. But, both of you, feel free to block me next time I get frustrated and call a spade a spade. I wouldn't appeal because this place is clearly intended for human interaction idealists, not realists. - Sitush (talk) 20:53, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
- Heh. The only time I ever recall interacting with you is when sticking up for you or complimenting you in the eternal caste wars that you help to control. So if I've ended up on your blacklist because of my policy on civility then that's a pity, but it's a one-sided enmity. There are very few people on Wikipedia with whom I agree on everything, and unfortunately a great deal of those who come close are on the wrong side of this particular fence. Boing happens to be another one. If we're ever to resolve this stupid war without one side being annihilated we need clueful participants on both sides. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) (talk) 09:56, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

- I'm a little saddened to see two people I respect at odds here, and I can't resist a few words. For me it's not just a linear scale with pro- and anti-Civility proponents at each end. To me, it's two-dimensional, with Civility on one axis and Assholiness on the other. There are people who have different positions to me on the Civility scale, but whom I do not consider to be assholes - and I don't mean this to sound like faint praise, Chris, but I don't consider you an asshole (mind you, if I did, I wouldn't tell you, as I'd be sure to be blocked by an asshole ;-). Similarly, there are people with similar views to me on the Civility scale whom I consider to be assholes. What we need is intelligent discussion from non-assholes who are sufficiently intelligent, mature, experienced, and with the interpersonal skills to debate the general issue and individual events in a constructive manner. Instead, we get too many assholes jumping in with their size 15 boots. The result, instead of the world-leading approach to community interaction that this project deserves, is so often more like fights between mob factions. The mob itself can't fix it, ArbCom probably doesn't have the remit to fix it, and WMF doesn't have the balls. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:54, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Years and years of countless victims and arduous RFCs an Arbcom cases." PumpkinSky talk 11:50, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

- Taking a regular break is healthy! Someone once suggested that all policeforce employees should be required to work in a daycare/kindergarten (or plant-nursery) for a few days each month. The wildly different perspective and pace, is recharging and inspiring. — But do come back soon, you're a much-valued part of the community. –Quiddity (talk) 17:55, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

- Good luck. I'm probably not far behind you. This Visual Editor garbage is really too much in addition to the BS admin drama that caused you to leave. This place is really losing its luster. I hope you reconsider though. Kumioko (talk) 18:46, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
- So I gather you won't actually read this for a while, but, for posterity, I'll tell you what I just told Drmies: from recent personal experience, a break from the non-stop stupidity will do wonders for your karma. The real world is filled with far fewer power hungry jerks, and a lot more sunshine and kids and alcohol. Enjoy the break. --Floquenbeam (talk) 20:45, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
- I'm torn. I want to wish you well, and congratulate you on your principled stand, because I have always admired that about you - and I have seen it from you many times, both in the personal interactions we have had and your interactions with others. But I'm selfish, too, and the inevitable maths leaves us short of one principled, reasonable, and equally importantly common-sensed, personable admin. That's not so good. I'm having my own little "episode" at Commons at the moment, which has exhausted me a little bit, mentally - and I can feel your pain. I grew up drinking in the very pubs referred to above, and I'd love to buy you a pint and rant about it all - but it's a 24,000 mile round trip for me now - so I'll have to settle for offering that horribly termed "raincheck". Whatever you decide - don't be a stranger here. Begoon talk 02:30, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

- It also loses much by the presence of some people in the admin corps. If they were more accepting of the reality that people are human beings and that the mores of one culture cannot practically be enforced on other cultures then life would be much sweeter. Hello
Hi Boing, I see you are on a break but popping in from time to time. Maybe you will see this. You userfied a page for me, and I have decided not to pursue it. It is here: User:Missyagogo/RewardVille If you would kindly remove me from that project I would appreciate it, and enjoy your break! Missyagogo (talk) 02:13, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hi. I'm not an admin these days, so I can't really do anything, sorry. But if you want that userfied page deleted, just put {{Db-u1}} at the top of it and an admin will come along and zap it for you. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 07:51, 20 July 2013 (UTC)

Retired
After having had a few weeks to think about it, I've decided to retire from this account. It's possible that I may return to editing sometime in the future, but if I do it will be with a clean start account (one that doesn't have 250 talk page watchers, for one thing ;-) and I'll just go back to my old ways of low-profile gnome work. My time as an admin was fun and I don't regret it, but that is definitely in the past now. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 22:01, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

I'm not having a bit of it!!!! Now you listen here! You've been a huge influence on me. I don't like this whole retirement idea at all! There's no need for de-adminnig or retiring. That's rubbish. Just stay out of areas that've put you off. You can simply use the tools while editing quietly and usefully. Just step into the shadows (where I love to dwell.) Do what is just so nice: make species articles and quietly mop up here and there. Being an administrator doesn't mean being a governor. You can just walk from all of those areas. Okay???? Don't make me have to come over there! Your friend, Anna.

- Thanks Anna, that's very kind. I'm pretty sure I'll come back and do some of those things you suggest - but I simply don't want any association with adminship any more and I need a clean break from it. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:35, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- I understand. Maybe the breaking away shouldn't be about the rights, but about the where and what. The project needs cleaneruppers. So, keep the rights, and just split town. Wikipedia is so big. Maybe move to a cabin in the woods. Look at User:JoJan. He's over there being amazing with no heat. Lovely and worthwhile. Don't chuck the tools. Rethink
Well, folks, I wasn't expecting quite the strength of feeling I've seen since my decision to retire this account (I've had some nice off-wiki messages too). I really would like a complete fresh start in a few months time and I can be pretty stubborn when I've made up my mind - but I do also like to listen to people. So I'll put the decision on hold for a while and will go back to Wikibreak status for now. Maybe when I'm ready I will move to a new account but I'll link them so people know who I am. Or maybe I'll keep this one after all. I really don't know right now. (But I'm definitely not going to ask for my admin bit back). -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:59, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

Trying to create a legit article for Blue waffle
Just letting you know I'm attempting to actually make a legit article for Blue Waffle. I know it's a meme/hoax, but I think an article pointing that out, with references, would be a great help to the world. I saw you have once marked Blue waffles disease article written by someone else as G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement. I'm just letting you know, I took a serious approach to it, describing that it is a HOAX, and not a real disease, I also include multiple about templates to ensure that if someone was duped, they would have access to legitimate STD's, Internet hoax's, and false information. I have ref's and found multimedia and quotes. I'm ducking...I feel like I'm gonna have something thrown at me.... :) GlenberryPlace (talk) 18:55, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi Boing, My name is Sunil and you helped me out a few months back regarding a block situation I had. And we spoke at that time about GREENCulture and that being removed as well as my name Sunil Wagle being removed from wikipedia. I contacted the person named Mark Arsten who I think was the person who removed my name...I believe he is an Administrator but he said he does not recall deleting me but when I looked at the history I felt that by looking at the history, he was the one who did it. Can you please help me with this and let me know what I should do. Here is the message I sent to Mark Arsten: I see that you deleted my name as a famous Wagle. I would like to ask you why did that. My company Greenculture was the first green e-commerce retailer. We were regularly featured in magazines, and newspapers and did lots of business in the United States and overseas. Here are some online stories of me and the company: http://www.internetretailer.com/mobile/2007/04/19/riverwired-com-launches-as-green-web-portal-for-the-eco-co. Also, see here: http://legacy.utsandiego.com/news/uniontrib/mon/business/news_lz1b1ads.html. Also, see here: http://www.sanantonio.gov/clerk/ethics/HB914CIS/200809/SunilWagleGreenCulture.pdf. Also, see here: http://voices.yahoo.com/top-five-eco-friendly-online-furniture-retailers-839073.html?cat=30. Also, see here:http://www.gaithersburgmd.gov/Documents/environment/rainbarrel_handouts.pdf. If you look here we are listed here: http://www.co.ocean.nj.us/solidwaste/.%5C%5CPDFs%5CBackyardCompostingDemoSite.pdf. Anyway, I feel there is a legitimate reason for me to be listed here and ask that you reinclude my name in the list of wagles. As you can see above, we were in the Internet Retailer top 500 for many years. This company did over $50 million in revenue which seems notable. I think I may not be posting this in the correct area so I apologize in advance if I am posting this in the wrong location. Thanks. — Here is mark arsten's talk page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Mark_Arsten. Please help me if you can. Thanks so much for any help you can provide. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Swagle (talk • contribs) 23:46, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
