Links to forums
editLinks to forums, however popular, are not appropriate external links, and will continue to be routinely deleted. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:32, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- There's no prejudice against your forum; it's a principle on Wikipedia, that we don't link to sites such as blogs and forums because there is little or no quality control exercised on them (unlike, say, a newspaper or book). The same rules would apply to a forum for, say, Maggie Thatcher fans, or a Doctor Who fanblog. Having a domain name, advertisements, etc., would make the link more suspect, not less!
- As to my ethnic heritage and politics: there were even a few Orange Lodges who fought on the side of the United Irishmen in '98, and many of the leaders of Ireland's independence movements were and are Protestants. It's no accident that the Republic's flag is the orange and the green, and white for God's peace between us. I'm no Paisleyite! With regard to independence, and a United Ireland, we'll have to agree to disagree; at least you can't say I'm covert in my sympathies (that's one of the arguments for userboxes). (Don't know if it makes it worse or better for you, but I'm married to a Manxwoman.) --Orange Mike | Talk 19:55, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- Certainly the Orange Order is not a vehicle for any kind of United Irish activity today; I was just citing an obscure historical fact from over two centuries ago. And I've got at least one book in my library on the long history of Catholic Unionism (in the Irish sense), if you'd like a recommendation for a fascinating read. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:01, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- I've got no Cornish ancestors (although I like a good pasty when I'm peckish). --Orange Mike | Talk 22:38, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- Which looks to be most of the time judging by the size of you! ;) BonnieDonny (talk) 22:51, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
