re: edit to John Hersey High School

edit

Greetings Boxingisgreat!

First, welcome to Wikipedia. The large template I left includes many links to help that can aid you in your editing, whether they are tips on becoming a better editor, or the policies by which the website runs.

I have added a citation request to the entry that you left at this article. Notable alumni for schools require that the alum be the subject of a Wikipedia article (or eligible for one through WP:BIO), and that there be a reliable source which confirms that this person was an alum of the school. Right now, there is no source that confirms he is an alum. If you can find one, please consider adding it to the article.

I also moved your entry to restore alphabetical order, and wikified the boxer's name so that it connects to the article about the boxer.

Best of luck in editing! LonelyBeacon (talk) 18:24, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. One or more of the external links you added in this edit to the page Omar D Henry do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. You may wish to read the introduction to editing. Thank you.   Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to the page John Hersey High School. Such edits constitute vandalism and are reverted. Please do not continue to make unconstructive edits to pages; use the sandbox for testing. Thank you.  Btilm  03:54, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please do not vandalize pages, as you did with this edit to Omar D Henry. If you continue to do so, you will be blocked from editing.  Btilm  04:04, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Heya BiG!
I don't think you are vandalizing this article on purpose, but you need to be a little more careful.
1. If you are not sure how to do something, please make sure to ask someone, or at least leave a note on the article's talk page giving editors some idea of what you are trying to do.
2. In your most recent edit, you again deleted the citation request. I have restored it. There must be a reliable source which confirms that Omar D Henry attended the school. If one cannot be found in a reasonable amount of time (a month or so), he will likely be deleted. Continually removing that tag is considered vandalism, so please do not remove it again unless you replace it with a citation from a reliable source.
3. It looked like you were trying to add some references. Remember: because he already has an article, we don't need sources confirming that he is a professional boxer. We need a source confirming he went to John Hersey High School. I wish you the best of luck, and please, if you aren't sure, just leave a note on the talk page or ask someone for help. Wikipedia is supposed to be a collaborative effort, and everyone asks for help many times in the history of their editing. LonelyBeacon (talk) 10:20, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Omar D. Henry, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Thank you. Look at what the template says, and fix it, before deleting the template. Deleting such templates without addressing the problems amounts to vandalism. Drmies (talk) 04:04, 29 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Okay, now we've got a source to support the statement that Omar went to JHHS. That's good.

But why does it matter to the article on Omar that JHHS was ranked fourth-best high school in Illinois? As far as I can tell, it doesn't.

I'll give you a chance to convince me, though. Explain why it matters. DS (talk) 12:30, 9 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

In the two days since I left you this message, you continued to edit; however, you have not answered my question about why it's relevant. Therefore, I'm going to remove that particular bit of information. DS (talk) 18:48, 11 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi there.

You have uploaded File:Omar_henry.jpg with the license of you releasing it into the public domain as the copyright holder.

We cannot allow such blatant copyright infringements if you have uploaded the work and are not the author. Can you validate that you are the source of the image? If not, I am compelled by policy to delete it. Keegan (talk) 04:26, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Omardhenry.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Omardhenry.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. dave pape (talk) 19:24, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Omar henry 150x150.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Omar henry 150x150.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think that your page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 06:13, 22 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:Omarhenry.jpg

edit

The file File:Omarhenry.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused image, unlikely own work

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --TheImaCow (talk) 20:33, 23 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
