irrational number

But, as was previously pointed out in this discussion, numbers only look like approximations in certain bases. I think we'd both agree that pi is irrational in base 10, but pi is represented as 10 in base pi and is therefore an integer in that base. Semantics aside, all of these symbols we use comprise the language of mathematics. They represent the idea of a number. The symbols 1/2, 0.5, 0.1 in base 2, 0.4999... represent the same value. Please. There is no such thing as "irrational in base 10" as opposed to irrational in some other base. An irrational number is simply one that cannot be written as a ratio of two integers. Bases have nothing to do with the definition. You're responding to a somewhat belligerent crackpot on that page. It doesn't help to write nonsense like this. Please look at irrational number and read the definition carefully. The notion that it has to do with expansion of a number in a base is a persistent meme despite the fact that it is never taught in any math course. Michael Hardy 21:11, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

Re-reversion of Increase Mather

I have reverted your revert on Increase Mather because:

I don't find it any "cleaner", and many other people have complained that that version of it was confusing and hard to read (here, here).

The previous version was based on a direct copy from the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica which was in their own condensed "house style".

The previous version had absolutely no sourcing.

If there's something specific about the previous version that would help in the current version, there's a peer review request out, so I'd appreciate your views and suggestions on the articel there. Thanx dude. 68.39.174.238 20:11, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

CVU

No; self-references should rarely ever be used. It's understandable for policies, guidelines and processes that are essential to Wikipedia, but the CVU is essentially a club and isn't comparable to other selfrefs. See Esperanza as well. Ral315 (talk) 07:49, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the time to look over my history here. It really is a help to get an outsider's perspective on how I'm doing.

I get your point on voting for RFAs. Hadn't actually crossed my mind, but now that you mention it I probably should be at least a little active in there. If anything, it should give me a better feel for the process. I totally admit I was hasty in my first request.

As for the sporradic editing in the past, you'd be surprised how much the dips corelate to the times in which I was playing World of Warcraft. Thankfully, I've kicked that addiction and I should be sitting at around 1000+ each month from here on in.

AFDed Webcomics

Hey hey. Turns out I actually love web comics; I read about 10 daily. I just hate to see so much non-notable content filling up Wikipedia. I get that the comic's authors put a lot of work into their art (although in some comics that isn't the case), but that doesn't necessarily make the comic notable. A friend of mine draws comics, but I haven't made a page for them here. Know what I'm saying?

No no, this isn't grudge. This is just me opening a bunch of pages from the category, putting them all up for AFD, then waiting for general consensus before I put up another 5 or 10. Webcomic notability guidelines

I've commented on it; Comics Genesis, a revamp of the old KeenSpace, is pretty much the webcomic equivalent of Geocities or Myspace; hosting content on those is trivial. WP:WEB already handles this case. I didn't know about this myself until I posted on WP:WEBCOMIC, which is the relevant project for webcomics. Nowadays the line is getting blurrier; webcomic authors are starting to place their comics in print; some webcomic authors are hybrid, meaning they have webcomics and print comics with different stories, and some comic authors have experimented with webcomics.
