Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Bret Painter. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the article UK Picture Editors Guild, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. Editing for the purpose of advertising or promotion is not permitted. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID). Thank you. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 23:10, 12 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

As I said last year, "The conflict of interest policy was designed to stop people who'd got up to round 3 in The X Factor, creating a Wikipedia article about themselves, and then proclaiming them to be bigger than The Beatles. It wasn't designed to stop subject experts being able to fix articles where consensus had been established that there were errors." I have it on good authority that Peter Hitchens edits his own Wikipedia article. Plus ca change Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:43, 13 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

DYK for UK Picture Editors' Guild

edit

On 26 February 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article UK Picture Editors' Guild, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that nominations for the UK Picture Editors' Guild awards have included photographs of battlefield conflict, German figure skaters, and Theresa May laughing? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, UK Picture Editors' Guild), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
