Watchmen

edit

The reason your additions were reverted were for two reasons. First, the initial bit is redundant. We don't need to identify that the box office take for Saturday and Sunday was less when we're including the actual numbers right there. It's already clear when you read them that they are less, so stating that they are doing exactly what it looks like they are doing is redundant and the writing should be a succinct as possible. To the other, we don't use IMDb as a source for anything, except maybe to get a name of a crew member from their crew listing. Regardless, all anticipated openings have an "estimated" weekend based on their initial opening day. Friday the 13th had one as well, but they are not that important to the actual numbers, because they are usually wrong. The more important thing is tat Warner Bros commented on the 55 million opening (which is posted just above where you posted the IMDb stuff), and the comparison to 300's opening. That's all we need.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 11:38, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

We don't cite IMDb, period. Regardless, the statement in front of where you were adding the IMDb information was a statement from the distributor actually addressing that very thing. He noted that you have to consider that the film is almost 3 hours long, and as far as the studio was concerned they were happen with 55 million. "Analyst" only made their predictions based on the opening day, which is usually wrong by the end of the weekend (granted, most films don't typically make less on Saturday and Sunday than they do on Friday). What WOULD be relevant is if someone tried to explain WHY it lost money on Saturday and Sunday. People have noted that it didn't make as much as they initially expected, but I haven't read anywhere that it was considered a "flop" for the weekend, especially not for an R-rated movie. Unless there was wide-spread reports about how well this film was going to do over the weekend (I only remember a couple, and few actually tried to take a guess at the opening number before it was actually released), than the only "expectations" relevant are the ones from the studio. If you feel that strongly about it, then I would suggest starting a topic on the talk page to get some more viewpoints on the matter and see what the community believes.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 20:35, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
That was apparently me misreading and seeing the Friday decrease of 77%. My bad.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 19:01, 15 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well, since March is over...no one can outseat the film for a whole year. I don't see a problem with it. Specialized rankings are not an issue so long as it isn't too crazy. For instance, I'll mention slasher remakes for Friday the 13th, because it's specialized but at the same time relevant to the film. On the other hand, I wouldn't list BOM's "Showdown: Horror Revival Rip-Off", because it's some crazy specialized thing they came up with. Does that make sense? The R-rated info is relevant as well because (if you look at the list) it's hard to actually get R-rated films to earn a lot of money (because their rating limits their audience). I think that should the Spring and DC Comics stuff get too low then I would think about removing it. The DC Comics is a huge list, so 13 isn't that low. Other the other hand, 13 on the Spring list would be low and not worth mentioning. It's a common sense/waiting game. As it currently sits, I think its fine. Should the time come that they become insanely ridiculous to report (Watchmen sits as the 53 highest grossing film of 2009), then I'd remove whatever needs to be removed.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 22:54, 7 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
