Thank you @Peaceray! I'm wondering how to create a new meetup page- do I just do that in my sandbox and then link it to the meetup page after? Is there a template at all that I can use?
Thank you! And if you don't know the answers to my questions feel free to ignore Bumusiclibrary (talk) 19:19, 14 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Your username

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Bumusiclibrary", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. Speedy deletion nomination of User:Bumusiclibrary/sandbox

edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. A tag has been placed on User:Bumusiclibrary/sandbox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Will120 (talk) 19:42, 14 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Will120: your request for a speedy deletion was declined by an administrator. The sandbox page was clearly a draft for a Wikipedia edit-a-thon. I assume that you thought that it was promotional because it was marked with Tag: Possible self promotion in userspace & since Bumusiclibraryblackcomposereditor had not edited in the main (article) namespace. I respectfully request that you slow down in your efforts to eradicate non-encyclopedic content & take the time to actually read what you are tagging.
I further respectfully ask you to please remove this Speedy deletion notice along with my comment, because it was inappropriate to designate it as being afoul of WP:U5 & thus is contrary to WP:DONTBITE.
Your fellow anti-vandal editor, Peaceray (talk) 20:53, 14 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Bumusiclibraryblackcomposereditor, since Will120 has failed to respond or rectify the mistaken placement of this warning, you may wish to consult the following:
  • WP:OWNTALK: Although archiving is preferred, users may freely remove comments from their own talk pages.
  • WP:REMOVED: Policy does not prohibit users, whether registered or unregistered, from removing comments from their own talk pages, although archiving is preferred.

Starting a meetup page

edit

Thank you @Peaceray! I'm wondering how to create a new meetup page- do I just do that in my sandbox and then link it to the meetup page after? Is there a template at all that I can use? Thank you! And if you don't know the answers to my questions feel free to ignore Bumusiclibrary (talk) 19:19, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi, Bumusiclibraryblackcomposereditor, unfortunately I am pressed for time for the next several days. You might have a look at meetup pages that I have edited, such as WP:Meetup/Seattle, Wikipedia:Meetup/Seattle/Wiknic/2023, & Wikipedia:GLAM/Washington State Historical Society/Events and Workshops/Women's Suffrage Centennial Program.
It looks like you are off to a good start in your sandbox. I see that you are starting a meetup page for an edit-a-thon to improve representation of black composers and musicians on English Wikipedia. You may wish to look at Wikipedia:Meetup/OregonStateUniversity/BlackHistoryPNW2021 that was on a similar topic.
You may wish to confer with Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/AfroCrowd & Wikipedia:Meetup/Black Lunch Table.
@Shanluan, Raggachampiongirl, Heathart, and Fishantena: might you have any further recommendations? Peaceray (talk) 22:12, 14 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
