Bearders' Beard

edit

I am sure that person who added the line would have used an article like the BBC obit as his reference, but I am not convinced about its accuracy. Looking around, http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/tms/2009/01/tribute_to_the_bearded_wonder.shtml says that "He was rewarded with an MBE for his services to cricket in 2004, but was equally as proud when voted 'beard of the year' by the Beard Liberation Front" but this is incorrect as it was Flintoff and friend (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4134035.stm ) who won in 2004. This BBC link - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/cricket/7856507.stm - goes even further and claims that "Frindall's facial hirsuteness earned him admiration from the Beard Liberation Front, the country's foremost collection of beard wearers, and he was named Beard of the Year on numerous occasions." ! Test_Match_Special#Beards says that Frindall won in 2008 but it was Tom Jones who won last year.

Frindall could well have won because the award has been going on for 14 years, but IMO, we should look for a contemporary report (like the link for Flintoff and Jones above) before adding it and not trust the tributes and obits. Tintin 16:11, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
