Sam and Diane

I wonder how it fails to be a B-class article. Can you tell me which criteria the article fails? --George Ho (talk) 03:17, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

I changed it back to B. Had I known that I was the only one making TV assessments, and be hounded by my choices, I never would've done them to begin with. — Wyliepedia 04:08, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Zou Bisou Bisou image

You are extremely active at "A Little Kiss" and related topics. I am having some trouble at "Zou Bisou Bisou" with File:Jessica Paré in a miniskirt performing Zou Bisou Bisou.jpg. There is discussion at Talk:Zou_Bisou_Bisou#Non-free_image regarding its removal. I would appreciate it if you would comment.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 03:46, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

Toby Saks, woman musician

Hi, CAWylie. I've made a suggestion, or rather a request, on Talk:Toby Saks. Awien (talk) 21:41, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Language: Woman vs. female. "Woman," in my opinion, is a noun. — Wyliepedia 22:57, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
Not a problem: noun modifying noun (called apposition) is perfectly grammatical and very, very common in English: car key, concert hall, desktop computer, and on and on. On the other hand, very many women find the term female whatever-it-is offensive. And both your sources have "woman member". Why not go by them? (Just so you know, my study of linguistics was up to the Master's level, and I taught grammar at the university level for nearly forty years). Awien (talk) 23:13, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
(adds) Safire quotes Deborah Tannen, professor of linguistics at Georgetown University: "I avoid female in my own writing because it feels disrespectful, as if I'm treating the people I'm referring to as mammals but not humans", notes that Hillary Clinton aspires to be "woman president", and acknowledges that "feminists everywhere have begun to turn on the word female". How does any of that support the use of "female" rather than "woman"? Awien (talk) 23:22, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
You made your point at the talk page. Regarding fixing the hook, we are mere hours from it appearing on the main page and it requires a lengthy process to fix. As for the article, feel free to change the "offensive" entry yourself. However, after having a half-dozen DYKs approved, I myself will be upset if changing it in the article gets it removed from the DYK. But, in hindsight, I should've worded it as did with Jean Giambrone: "one of the first women to become a member". — Wyliepedia 00:23, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
Fair enough in the circumstances to let the hook stand (and there's surely no reason a change to the article would get the hook removed from the queue?). As for your "one of the first women" formulation, I consider that an excellent, elegant solution to the problem. Awien (talk) 00:39, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
I'll change it after the hook's time on the main page passes. Will be curious to see just how much of the "very many women" you mention react in the same way. — Wyliepedia 00:42, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
Unfortunately, academics, professionals, and experts as a whole are conspicuous by their absence on Wikipedia, as also are women as a whole, so if no women doctors or women judges are around to react doesn't mean they wouldn't if you called them female whatever-it-is.
I quoted William Safire above as saying "feminists everywhere have begun to turn on the word female", but he's only partly right. What's true is that feminists are against the word female, but that isn't a new phenomenon. Throughout the 20th century, the preferred and most commonly accepted modifier was "woman", see [1] for example, and what we are reacting to now is the sudden explosive rise in the use of the deplorable "female".

Sushmita Banerjee edit conflict

It seems both of us started to work on the article simultaneously. Sorry if you get any edit conflict.--Dwaipayan (talk) 21:33, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

I'm going to leave it to you two. She needed an article long before today, and I appreciate your efforts. --(AfadsBad (talk) 21:35, 5 September 2013 (UTC))
I usually just add death notices when I come across them. Anyone can add anything further. — Wyliepedia 21:39, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
Then it looks like Dwaipayanc is currently editing. I will check back tomorrow to see if I can add anything. --(AfadsBad (talk) 21:42, 5 September 2013 (UTC))
@AfadsBad I have added chunks of texts. Major edits are done. Of course there may be other stuffs, and copyediting etc.--Dwaipayan (talk) 22:44, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
It's a good article, now, and I thank you for your work. I will check on it tomorrow to see if any copyedits can be done. I think other editors will be watching and improving, also. --(AfadsBad (talk) 23:09, 5 September 2013 (UTC))

Episode titles for AHS: Coven

You mentioned in a recent edit you doubted that the source for eps. 2-5 for Coven were legit. I also have my concerns. The article actually mentions SpoilerTV as their source, so I'm thinking it's dubious. Should they be removed? -- SchrutedIt08 (talk) 11:37, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for stopping by. I mentioned IBT as a source on Coven's talkpage. They use outside sources all the time. Am surprised they don't cite Wikipedia! That's my first problem with them. In this instance, IBT says "SpoilerTV is reporting via FoxFast.com..." FoxFast is reliable in itself and should be our source, but lately requires registration to see it, if memory serves. As for IBT being a third-party source, I say remove it. — Wyliepedia 11:44, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Agreed. FoxFast is a reliable source, except that it's no longer open to the public, so the average editor has no way of verifying the information. It sucks, but we gotta follow the rules, right? If a third party publisher is using places like SpoilerTV and IMDb as sources without checking out the information for themselves, then I've got to question their legitimacy. If you want to remove the titles, I'll back you up if it's disputed. -- SchrutedIt08 (talk) 11:53, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

File:The Magic School Bus title credit.jpg

Why is this image replaceable by the DVD cover? --George Ho (talk) 20:54, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

Never mind the question. I already replaced File:Magic School Bus Complete Series DVD.jpg with the title card per MOS:TV. You can comment here or there, and can you let me delete the DVD cover? --George Ho (talk) 17:09, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
I really don't care what happens to the DVD cover. I uploaded it because it shows nearly every character in the series. I would put it in the home media section but I'm sure others would bitch about that too. — Wyliepedia 20:22, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
What is momentarily strange to me is that you (and everyone else) took 18 months to notice the change. — Wyliepedia 06:40, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi CAWylie. Do you want if I nominate you for the autopatrolled user right? Your articles are quite good and I believe that your newly created articles can be automatically patrolled. Thanks. Jianhui67 talkcontribs 14:24, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

Larry Lujack

Hi,

Thanks for reorganizing the Larry Lujack Page. It think it is much easier to read now than before. I still think there's some problems related to WP:SURNAME since sometimes he referred to by his first name, sometimes by his last name, and sometime by both names. I think only his family name is supposed to be used after the first "Larry Lujack" unless he's being referred to in a direct quote. What do you think?

Finally, the part about his love of golf and being a good guy seems pretty anecdotal so not sure if it belongs. Maybe it needs to be rewritten? Not sure. Marchjuly (talk) 06:18, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
