Comics Cleanup

You are one of the best editors working on comics-related articles on Wikipedia. I'd like to inite you to join the new WikiProject I've started: WikiProject Comics Cleanup. Similarly to how the WP:CMC collaboration works to elevate articles to Featured Article status, the primary goal of this new project is to coordinate group cleanup efforts on articles, copy editing, condensing, and providing citations where needed. The secondary goal is to remind good editors that there are other good editors who have the same goals.

This will also help prepare articles for Wikipedia 1.0 assessment, a project I am currently working on pulling together for WP:CMC. I'd really appreciate your membership, but I do understand if you find yourself to be too busy to participate. --Chris Griswold (☎☓) 18:59, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Batman (and Bruce Wayne) as Criminals

I don't think comic book characters are as clear cut and one dimensional as you are making Batman out to be. I gave at least one example of a supposed villian (Poison Ivy) who believes he is the real criminal and I've listed other criminals who were created as a result of the toxic chemicals produced by Wayne Enterprises. When we get to the military contracts made to the U.S. we are talking about weapons that are sometimes misused to kill or otherwise traumatize civilians. If the claim can be made that Wayne Enterprises is "green" then a counter-point should be allowed concerning Wayne Chemicals and Wayne Oil. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nihilozero (talk • contribs) 14:52, 17 October 2006.

Fixed layout

So, I believe I have repaired the layout problems I was trying to fix earlier: The page should have a orange stripe intersecting a green stripe with the Wikipedia Signpost aligned to one side. Something in the div class of the archive box or Chris' RfA announcement were conflicting with the Infobox. In IE, the Infobox was pushing everything else down to the bottom of the screen. In Firefox it was pushing the RfA announcement, the archive box and all the "edit" functions for each message header down to the bottom of the page. I worked around the archive box for now -- but if anyone more markup and css savvy than I knows what was causing this, I'm still curious. ~CS 05:32, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey, you queried Johanna's role at DC. Johanna used to be big back on Usenet way back, and did work at DC, see [1]. Hope that clears it up. Yeah, I can see that, it could probably stand a tweak. What I was trying to get across was that Johanna would certainly count as a professional expert in the field, which is what the sourcing policies are now pushing for as a determination of a reliable source. I haven't been a rac* regular for years -- I was much more active on alt.comics.batman in the late 90's and early 00's where I posted as "~Chris." My posting on the Delphi and offspring forums has been pretty inconsistant -- I go through phases where I'm pretty active in the current events and political forums, followed by long periods of lurking. ~CS 19:33, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Doesn't ring a bell. I haven't been on a delphi board in ages, I thought they shut them all down, I remember Warren Ellis closing his down. I don't really have any net presence outside here nowadays, to be honest. Still, nice to bump into someone who remembers it all the way it used to be. I tended to lurk on RAC.LSH, misc and Vertigo around the same period. Take it easy. :)

section move

Be careful, moving sections can lead to rebukes and hassles. If you check the gotham City page history, you'll see that Chris griswold reverted other section moves, you may find yours reverted too. Don't know why, civility and wiki-conventions say put new at the bottom,but whatever. Just be warned. ThuranX 23:39, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure that the only reason Chris reverted that old section was because someone moved a very old coversation around for no reason. I was simply moving a brand-new conversation to the bottom of the page because, as you say, the convention is to put new conversations on the bottom. ~CS 00:17, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Shimmer (comics)

Hi. Per Wikipedia:Copyright problems/Advice for admins when dealing with copyright violations it is necessary to delete the article, then use the undelete function to restore the untainted revisions. I hope that clarifies what happened. Sadly it is not enough to simply remove the offending text, it also has to be deleted from the page history to prevent it being mistakenly re-added. I have attempted to restore the articles as best I can. I hope that explains what happened. Steve block Talk 00:51, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

American comicbooks

Both films are based on graphic novels by Raymond Briggs -- and you're right, they're not American, they're British, much like Tank Girl, Judge Dredd and V for Vendetta. There's a discussion on the article's talk page right now about making the article "English language" rather than "American"-centric.

Tank girl

I have to say, I didn't look at the article - the categories "LGBT characters in comics" and "Fictional bisexuals" told me all I needed. Satyrbot has certainly been having problems, but this is mostly because categories have been put in stupid places rather than it's tagging wrong articles. re Killer Moth in the live action section of List of Batman enemies

IIUC the line was added due to the un-aired pilot short that was prepped for a Batgirl series to lead into the West/Ward Batman in its third season.

While the short has been uploaded to YouTube, it isn't a fan-film.

Hi J -- Killer Moth did appear in the unaired introduction to Batgirl in the Adam West TV show, but this isn't what the anon was adding. "Batman vs. Killer Moth" is one of a couple farces produced by some teenagers and put up on YouTube. Shane Steele is one of the guys involved in making these. You can see the films and their credits here and here. Not that I'd ever want to discourage teenagers to play with making their own movies -- it's just not notable enough to include in a Wikipedia article. ~CS 03:28, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Fair point, I wasn't aware of the fan-film in question (bad assumption on my part). It may be worthwhile though to include the Killer Moth from the pilot since it was done by the same production company that fielded the 1960's Batman.

Could you also take a look at the revised blurb for the 'Moth in the list? I think it may be the same source that changed it.

I have a DVD of Batman TV oddities with the pilot and credits at home -- I'll be sure to check the info and update it this weekend. Tim Herbert played Moth in this version.

You're right -- the user moved Killer Moth to the major villains section and removed information about more recent incarnations to match his fan-film. I'll correct it. ~CS 03:50, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
