Hi, I noticed you're doing quite a lot of work creating biographical articles - good work! You might consider adding your articles to categories as you create them - this helps with organising Wikipedia. I've already added your Lorenz von Bibra article to a few categories, but you would be better placed to know what ones are the most appropriate. You can find a full list of categories here, and if you want more info about using them, you can find it here. Cheers! Martin 04:11, 16 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:Scherenberg.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Scherenberg.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 06:06, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Artus2.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.

Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. cohesion 07:11, 2 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Wilhelm von Bibra. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites (http://vonbibra.net/WilhelmvonBibra.html in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Wilhelm von Bibra with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article Talk page. Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at Talk:Wilhelm von Bibra with a link to the details.

Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement. After you do so, you should place a {{hangon}} tag on the article page and leave a note at Talk:Wilhelm von Bibra saying you have done so. An administrator will review the new content before taking action.

Bibra biographies and request for the family Sparneck

edit

Hello CSvBibra, this morning i have discovered your work in English and I was very pleased to find so many pictures to illustrate the German article. I am planning to translate your biographies from the prince-bishops, but besides I am very busy at the moment - I will do it the next weeks. Perhaps you could help me with my main theme: I was born in Sparneck and the knights of Sparneck were directly related with the family Bibra, that is why I am especially searching for coat of arms from the Sparneck at Bibras monuments and I am interested in the further context of that relation. It is Johann (or Hans) Christoph Erdmann, who married Domicilla Marie Christine von Bibra on 20.06.1706. Their children were the last carrier of the name Sparneck (ended 1744). They owned Trausnitz and Reuth in the Oberpfalz. Perhaps you will take a look at my article "Sparneck (Adelsgeschlecht)" in the German wikipedia, here you can find links and with Trausnitz another impressive castle. I also recommand "Liste fränkischer Rittergeschlechter". I am trying to underline the community of the franconian knights including their families and bulding bridges over (gone) borders to Thüringen and the Tschechei. With the end of the cold war and the bitterness of WW2 now history is in my eyes a signal to remember togetherness and to create neighbourhood. Archives and researchers are slowly putting their knowledge together. More over the communism didnt like nobility. Documents about Sparneck are spret from Dresden to Prag. I tried to add your picture of the coat of arms at St. Leo church in this Bibra categorie, but I am not sure how to add the categorie after the upload. If you have any comments, please use the discussion of my German account [1]. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.56.98.17 (talk) 20:55, 7 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello CSvBibra, please do not hesitate to upload a picture of the grave in Irmelshause or send it to me per email. Every new trace would be a sensation for me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.245.226.186 (talk) 06:26, 9 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hello CSvBibra, meanwhile I translated 3 Bibra articles and 1 Scherenberg article. Are there any further articles of franconian nobility without a corresponding article in German? Because of the Wikilinks I placed on other sites I expect all these articles growing the next time (with some patience). I would be glad hearing from you for the Sparnecker Wappen. I will close the gap between the two Bibras with an article about "Konrad II. von Thüngen". I have only a few information, but it is a beginning.

Liste fränkischer Rittergeschlechter

edit

Hello CSvBibra, in the German wikipedia is a nomination for "Liste fränkischer Rittergeschlechter" as a worth reading list. I hope you support this with a positive vote. You find a link at the end of "Liste fränkischer Rittergeschlechter". I think this is for making the theme more popular. Peter Braun 84.56.123.143 (talk) 14:36, 25 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello Peter, the article referenced has greatly improved in recent days and I am excited about all the work you have done on it. I particularly like the new table. Unfortunately, I am a little shy about contributing to a discussion in German because of my inadequate German skills. Images and photos in German, I can handle. Paragraphs, that is another story.--CSvBibra (talk) 22:42, 25 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The only information I have to add is that in from about 1980(or before)to sometime in the 90's or even later, they had a speed limit sign in the upstairs window which was changed from "Speed 55" to "Speed $5". This seems like a strange thing but the altered sign was the defining characteristic of the house for years which stood out whenever one drove by on Campus Drive.--CSvBibra 23:35, 2 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I undid this edit because it repeated text ("in his hometown, Guttenberg is by courtesy styled Baron (Herr Baron, "My Lord Baron") and known as simply "Herr Baron"). Also, Herr Baron is the form one would use when addressing him directly (by tradition), while "Der Baron" (The Baron) is a term used (at least in Guttenberg, Bavaria) when referring to him in third person. Cressy, Tasmania

edit

Hello, and thank you for removing vandalism from Cressy, Tasmania. This is much appreciated, but unfortunately your repair was not successful in restoring the article to its pre-vandalised state. For future reference, it is better to deal with vandalism by checking the article's page history to determine how it appeared before it was vandalised. You can then restore the whole article, or the relevant part of it, to an appropriate earlier version. If you simply delete the visible vandalism then any content removed or overwritten by the vandal is lost. See How to deal with vandalism for details. Thank you. Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Calmer Waters 09:00, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ritter vom güldenen Sporn / equites aurati

edit

Schmid (talk) 18:42, 21 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

My German is not good enough for full discussion in German on the German Wikipedia discussion page. In the case of English page which I have done extensive work, we had the problem of the term being used in several contexts: HRE & Middle Ages, later in the Catholic Church and later Great Britain. The topic is divided on between Knight of the Golden Spur (HRE) and Order of the Golden Spur. As far as the related terms “Eques auratus” , “Eques aureus”, “Equites aurati”, “Miles auratus” and “Eques auratus Sancti Romani Imperii “: they are handled imperfectly with redirets.--CSvBibra (talk) 22:51, 21 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

My understanding is that "eques auratus" is Neo-Latin, coined by humanists around the middle of the 15th century to replace standard Middle-Latin "miles" for "knight", because they recognized that in classical Latin "miles" meant "foot-soldier" (cf. Lorenz Böninger, Die Ritterwürde in Mittelitalien zwischen Mittelalter und Früher Neuzeit, Berlin 1995, especially pp. 172, 231f.). These humanists seem also to have recognized that the ancient "eques" wasn't exactly a "knight", so they added "auratus", referring to the knightly privilege of gilded equipment / wearing a gold chain. "Eques auratus" then became the standard term for "a knight (who was actually knighted not just born into a knightly family)". So, there was no special order of equites aurati - anyone knighted by a sovereign (including the Pope), or by an imperial/papal count palatine, or by being admitted to a knightly order was an eques auratus. At some later point confusion about the added "auratus" seems to have arisen (possibly because classical Latin "eques" alone was more and more used for "knight") which then led to the actual establishment of the papal Order of the Golden Spur. Therefore, equites aurati aren't some new phenomenon, they are just knights. Th. Schmid (talk) 21:54, 1 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks greatly.--CSvBibra (talk) 22:44, 1 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi CSvBibra: Sorry to trouble you, but I could not help but notice your expression of affection for TOS on the Wikipedians who like Star Trek: The Original Series page, and so I would be curious of your thoughts on the notability of a Star Trek author for whom I just created a Wikipedia article -- which may be promptly destined for the trash pile. As a newcomer here at Wikipedia, my first article attempt was indeed recommended for deletion within hours of its creation by a senior user named JzG who seems to me to be overly hostile and dismissive of Star Trek, calling it fancruft (= trivial, obscure, of importance to just a tiny group of fanatics) . Since you are a Trek fan, if it is also your good faith opinion that my subject is in no way deserving of an article on this site; and you could let me know, I would feel much more comfortable with the justice of the pending deletion action. My proposed article may be seen here, assuming you visit the page soon enough ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerald_Gurian Kind Regards. Tosresearcher (talk) 05:20, 7 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

edit

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

edit

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.
