I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Getting the articles just right can be tricky - but there are lots of people to ask!

If you have any questions check out Wikipedia:Questions.

There are several ways of getting help:

  1. Leave a message on this page. It is on my watchlist, which means that I can see when the page is changed!
  2. Leave a message on my talk page - just click on talk in my signature
  3. Go into IRC Channel #wikipedia-en-help
  4. Leave a message on this page starting with {{helpme}} followed by your question - someone in the IRC help room will be over as soon as possible
  5. Leave a question on the Help Desk or on the New Contributors' Help Page

By the way, when you are writing on a discussion page (or someone's talk page), it is considered good manners to sign your comment... to do this, just add ~~~~ at the end of your comment. That will put your user name (Camanecro) and the date/time at the end (or you can click on the icon when you are editing. Never sign on an article page - only on a discussion page.

I am now going to sign below this box with my signature, by adding ~~~~ here:

Ah Cama-Sotz

edit

I saw your note on Phantomsteve's page. The Ah Cama-Sotz page should not have been marked for WP:CSD, however the page has no references at all, which is likely to cause it problems. I did a Google News search for this artist [1] and found 15 sites that will probably all qualify as WP:RS, however none of them are in English. If you have the time and/or inclination, maybe you could start going through those pages using Google translator and incorporate them into the article. If you need help with formating and including references, let me know and I'll give you a hand. - Rob Robman94 (talk) 22:42, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I would also advise you to read our guidelines about conflict of interest (here). Although the subject may well be the "expert" on themselves and their projects, we have found that it can be hard for them to be neutral about themselves! The guidelines do not say that you should not write about yourself (although it does advise against it), but you need to be extra careful! If I get a chance in the next couple of weeks, I will try to help you as well - I've not had a look at Robman94's GNews results (I've very quickly logged onto Wikipedia to check for messages before going to work!) but will endeavour to do so in a couple of days! I hadn't spotted that user:Camanecro and Herman/Ah Cama-Sotz are one in the same. Robman94 (talk) 15:57, 14 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Herman, I saw you reverted my last edits to the Ah Cama-sotz page - I don't want to get into an edit war, and I have been trying to help - please understand that wikipedia has guidelines about how articles can be written. They have to fall into a certain style of writing, and be referenced.

For instance, this just doesn't work: "Ah cama-sotz will transport your subconscious in a mythical universe where his alter ego "ah cama-sotz" haunts the night and proliferates anxiety amidst every living creature. Ah cama-sotz' music reflects the epitome of mankind's mis(t)ery and (in)humanity." This is because it's not a factual statement and isn't backed up by references.

Let's look at another paragraph: "During his career Ah Cama-Sotz has carved a niche for himself as one of the darkest industrial acts around. His music is steeped in a multitude of mythology, occultism and bloody history, which lend a context and significance to the individual works that is noticeably absent from a lot of contemporary industrial / noise music. The past 18 years have seen the Ah Cama-Sotz sound progress from cold, minimalist electronics through to dark ambient soundscapes and pounding techno floor-fillers."

You can probably get away with that, but you'll need to both re-word it, and add references proving it. I had previously edited it to produce a cut down version that I think would be acceptable here, although you've since reverted it. It was something like "Ah cama-sotz is a dark industrial artist, active for 18 years, with a sound progressing from cold, minimalist electronics through to dark ambient soundscapes."

License tagging for File:Acs.JPG

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Acs.JPG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 15:07, 20 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello Camanecro. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Ah Cama-Sotz, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

Replaceable fair use File:Acs.JPG

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Acs.JPG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 04:05, 21 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Use of a person's first name in an article

edit

I have removed your use of your first name in the sentence about you DJing. Wikipedia's Manual of Style says here After the initial mention of any name, the person should be referred to by surname only, without an honorific prefix such as "Mr", "Mrs", "Miss", or "Ms".

Incidentally, I still see a lack of reliable sources which are independent of the subject. I will have another look for some, but if I can't find any, I will be considering nominating the article for deletion. If I do this, I will of course let you know and explain what you can do to argue against it.

Your recent changes to Ah Cama-Sotz

edit

I have corrected the changes you made, for the reasons below:

  • "Influences" section: you can't have "too many" for this section - it is not encyclopic! Wikipedia is an encyclopia at the end of the day - if you looked up an artist on Encyclopedia Britannica or another paper encyclopaedia, you would never see "too many" used to describe the influences!
  • "References" section: again, "too many" is not sufficient, or encyclopic. What we need are references to yourself and the project which demonstrates the notability of the subject. These references need to be at reliable sources (see here for guidelines about what kinds of sources are reliable from Wikip's point of view) and independent of the subject (see here for guidelines on that)

As I said above, Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia and entries need to be both suitable for inclusion and encyclopaedic in tone.

Re-nomination of Ah Cama-Sotz for deletion

edit

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Ah Cama-Sotz is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ah Cama-Sotz (2nd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article.

  • Please note that the first discussion was closed as "no consensus", as only myself and one other editor made a comment! I still do not feel that this article is suitable for inclusion on Wikipedia, so I am re-nominating it. PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 02:52, 30 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
