editWelcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created David Marshall Williams, and I noticed that your username, "CamdenSC", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Jack Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".
Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a change of username, by completing this form, that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 13:50, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
I would add that if you are a paid representative of an organization(like the City of Camden), you are required by Wikipedia's Terms of Use to clearly state that per the paid editing policy. 331dot (talk) 13:51, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
I hope this works - having a very hard time understanding how to reply to comments! Thank you for yours. I do work for the City of Camden's Archives & Museum. I wanted to correct some information about the city's page re colonial history but have not been able to figure out the best way to do so. When I saw the bad links on the David Williams page, I just decided to correct them. I really appreciate your help - I've been reading the instructions but am still having a hard time understanding how to make the actual edits. btw - Since I work for the City, would it be best if I NOT make corrections to the city page so it doesn't look like a conflict of interest? - Simply correcting a link is likely OK, but if you do anything more than that, you should first seek comment on the article talk page; click the "Talk" tab at the top of the article when viewing it, then edit normally. Please review the above links on conflict of interest.
- As I also indicated, you will need to change your username; if you click the words "this form" above it will take you where you can do so. I would suggest a name in the format of "YourName at CamdenMuseum" or something similar. You don't have to use your real name, just something to identify yourself.
- I'm happy to help you with any questions you have if you post them here, or you can visit the Teahouse, a friendly area for new users. 331dot (talk) 14:35, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
This is great - I actually managed to use a page, correctly. Thanks for the info - I did have another question, I managed to make a change on the Camden SC page - the page said something like Lord Camden was "the" champion of colonial rights which I changed to "a champion of colonial rights in the British Parliament" - can I edit that change and note that I work for the Archives or does it have to be deleted. Thanks again for your help.206.74.13.37 (talk) 14:45, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Just submitted a name change - that was actually easy! And I am signed in so the tilde thing should work! CamdenSC (talk) 15:08, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
- That seems to be an OK way to proceed for a change like that; as long as you are open about who you work for and, in the case of a major change, seek outside opinions on the talk page, you shouldn't have too many problems. 331dot (talk) 16:09, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
