Thanks
editCSCWEM, I'm just trying to get the hang of this, so thanks for your helpful advice! I've added a couple of citations to the Dave Cavanaugh page, which I hope help to validate it. Gervius 19:03, 8 October 2006
Scholarpedia deletion
editI was the original author of the article and I was not informed when its deletion was discussed and couldn't comment. I think the discussion was bogus and the deletion was a mistake and should be undone. Thank you, --Ben T/C 23:53, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hello Ben. The consensus to delete the Scholarpedia article was near unanimous. If you feel that the decision to delete was not valid, or have new information which warrants the overturning of this action, please feel free to list this page at Wikipedia:Deletion review for further discussion. Thank you, Can't sleep, clown will eat me 23:59, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Can't sleep, clown will eat me. To be exact, there was one voice against the deletion, so it wasn't unanimous. As for the discussion that went with it, I didn't see any serious arguments. I just looked like a squence of "Oh yea. I don't know why, but let's delete it." I also think that it is bad style not to inform editors of the article of the ongoing deletion and of the decision. It makes me angry, I think it was a bad decision, bad for wikipedia, bad in style, bad because it was stupid. I was already considering to put it on Wikipedia:Deletion review, but as it says there, you should first try to talk to the responsible admin, which is you. I will consider further steps, but I certainly would like to spend my time more useful than trying to revert thoughtless decisions. --Ben T/C 15:07, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
- Please let me know if you need any assistance bringing this up for review. Thanks, Can't sleep, clown will eat me 21:07, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
RfA thanks from StuffOfInterest
editThank you for participating in my RfA, which finished with a tally of 52/6/1 (~90%). It was an interesting process which gave me a chance to learn a bit about myself and about the community. My intention now is to slowly ease into using those additional buttons on my page. No use being over eager and mucking up the works. The support of all those who went over my record and/or rallied to my defense after the big oppose vote was instumental to the success of this review. Again, thank you! --StuffOfInterest 12:17, 10 October 2006 (UTC) |
I've decided to come to you on this, this user is always breaking the 3RR and is also always using personal attacks, He also uploads images and adds them to a page and when i tell him why i remove it he ignores it. Yamla blocked me twice for doing what he is doing yet no one has done anything, i even told yamla left a message for him that his is breaking the exact rules that yamla blocked me for and he hasn't done a single thing, his been online twice since ive left the message and his ignored it. This has really annoyed me and proven the singling out point even more. Chadbryant is forever getting away with everything if you check out his talk page and look at the edits you can see it clearly, he has even accused me of vandalising the Adam Copeland page i have never edited that page. Please i'm asking is there anything you can do seeing another admin has turned a blind eye and wont do nothing. Lil crazy thing 17:00, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
Blocking 212.85.5.92
editHi,
Thanks for blocking User:212.85.5.92 again. I'm sorry for all the problems that this IP is causing. However, now that you can block whilst allowing logged-in edits are available, I see no reason to unblock the IP. Consider this free reign to indefinitely block the IP if a single vandalistic edit is made. I will try to explain it to anybody who asks.
Thank you, —Daniel (‽) 20:46, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you Daniel -- at present, we are soft-blocking this IP so that registered users can edit. If you would like the IP to be blocked indefinitely, your network administrator may be able to facilitate this request, or you can have them contact me to discuss this further. editWas wondering if you had any thoughts or input regarding this user's current unblock request? Thanks in advance. Luna Santin 06:53, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks Luna. I've denied the request for now until I have an opportunity to speak with the network administrator responsible for providing connectivity to this user. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 09:54, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
The edit to Fuck
editI went to revert it too then checked to be sure - it was a legit edit believe it or not! Ironically I found it as UTFSE :) Glen 10:17, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well whaddayaknow. ;-) Do you think it is notable enough, clocking in at 510 Google hits? Can't sleep, clown will eat me 10:20, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Contested speedy deletions
editJDoorjam deletion log:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=delete&user=JDoorjam&page=
Alright! I just finished this is a list from September 30th to October 5th I did a re-evaulation for the articles. I did a more extensive research this time and only two article I believe fall into the speedy delete category (Italia Blue and Ava Nova). I thought a few articles were notable enough for AfD, but not speedy delete. Valoem talk 00:42, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
- The bulk of the contested speedies have been restored. If you could, please do your best to provide reliable sources for these biographies. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 00:50, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot, I noticed that you did not restore a bunch of them. If it was because of poor content I will try and expand them as soon as possible (probably tonight) so if you could restore everything that would be great just PM me a list of poor content articles so I can systematically expand them :). I'll try to get up all the citations by next Friday because I am really busy with exams right now, I also have to house a bunch of people for MLG New York coming up this weekend. PS: If it isnt asking too much, could you also restore the missing images? Sorry about all this stuff, I'm just too much of an inclusionist =D. Valoem talk 01:09, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Your revert
editThank you for reverting vandalism in my user page, I was away from the computer and I didn't note it. Again, thank you. Michaelas10 (T|C) 18:38, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Whoops! You missed a spot. Your revert of vandalism done by 66.65.181.100 on 7 November 2006 to Heart rate was not a complete repair. I just fixed it. - Samuel Erau 13:52, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Summary for protecting pages
editCould you perhaps use a slightly more descriptive summary when protecting pages, even something as simple as "recent IP vandalism" or "sockpuppetry". This would help us on the other end when looking to unprotect these pages and for future people looking at the protection log. "trying semi-protection" adds no information—it is already obvious semi-protection is being tried—and even the most basic reason about why it is being semi-protected is helpful. —Centrx→talk • 21:37, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
- Consider it done. For future (or past?) reference, the only time I tend to semi-protect an article is due to libel concerns or extensive sockpuppetry, or a combination of the two. Thanks, Can't sleep, clown will eat me 21:39, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Anon users on Iran
editSome anon user reverted you on Iran again, they're mass removing pictures and sourced info. --Mardavich 06:47, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
- Right after your warning, the same anon user removed a sourced sentence from Kurdish people. This is really frustrating. --Mardavich 06:54, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
- He did it again on Iran too. --Mardavich 06:57, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism protection
editThere is a lot of vandalism on Asshole (disambiguation) page. People put a link on Asshole epithet; putting George W bush or Erika Steinbach as the link instead of asshole(cause they find it funny). You really should protect this page. SamiKaero 17:28, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
Image on your Userpage
editI don't know if it was someone else vandalizing your page, but the other day, you had a big picture of John Wayne Gacy on your userpage, and considering his history, that might offend someone. Just saying, and it might just have been a vandal with a knowledge of serial killers, but you never know. (P.S. Your username is awesome) --BLuToRsE 03:40, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
Could you please yet again have words with this user, he is continuing to dish out insults to everyone, he has done it on my talk page again because i revert his edits he made on Mike Knox because his pictures did not have the correct copyrights so i'm within my rights to do that but yet again this is the sort of reply i get[1]also on a discussion on the john cena talk page this is also the attutide he had with name calling [2]. This stuff from this user is getting terrible now all you have to do is look at his edits and you will see more. Lil crazy thing 06:20, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
No no.
editI meant, I'm sorry I didn't keep reverting it. I would have if I were here. I wasn't trying to call your attention to it, since you clearly know about it. It's a minor thing, i know, but I feel it makes me look like I'm leaving the job half done . HalfShadow 19:22, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

editHey, there; I was digging through CAT:RFU, and I'm not quite sure what to make of this user's request. They're indefblocked for vandalism, but have no visible edits and no talk page history; are there deleted edits involved, or anything else I'm missing to have a more complete picture? Or, barring that, do you have any particular disposition on their unblock request? Luna Santin 06:00, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sigh, this person has been vandalizing a certain article in concert with several different IP addresses. Opinion sought
editHi sleepless. I am contacting you, somewhat at random, as I noticed you have closed several AFD recently and as you are generally regarded as a good admin. The page User:GabrielF/911TMCruft has been serving as a de facto noticeboard for people proposing and following AFD's on a particular topic: 9/11. To an extent has begun to broaden its focus into politically related articles in general, serving as an AFD conservative noticeboard. Among several recent examples, the Yellowcake forgery nomination was listed there as it went on AFD. This sort of private noticeboard strikes me as quite counter to the ideal collaborative and neutral spirit of AFD. I doubt, for example, that we would permit a WP:AFD noticeboard on topic X. Isn't that what AFD itself is for? So, I personally take issue with a user-space page which is serving the same role of co-ordinating editors with a particular outlook. There seems to be quite a lot of pre-discussion among editors watching that page, almost all of it off the relevant article talk pages. An unwiki lack of transparency, in my opinion.
Enough intro. What I'd like your opinion about is whether such a userpage is suitable to put through AFD itself. I've never seen such (userpage, not article), but I'm not sure how else to go about getting it deleted. Can it be speedied? Or am I just nuts, and this sort of thing is ok?
Disclaimer, I got in a dispute related to the use of this page yesterday. My dislike for the noticeboard led to the dispute, not the reverse.
If you have any advice or thoughts to offer, it would be appreciated. If so, please respond here to keep the thread together. Thank you. Derex 08:18, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- There isn't a criteria that would qualify this for speedy deletion, but you may be interested in visiting Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting (flat), a somewhat similar WikiProject designed to organize active deletion debates into various fields of interest. In addition to this project, you may have noticed that active AFD discussions are now being populated with a more generalized set of categorization templates, placing those pages into an appropriate subcategory at Category:AfD debates. Since this particular noticeboard is technically visible to everyone, it isn't necessarily a private noticeboard per se. While this type of coordination holds the potential to be helpful to all parties, it might be better served in a more visible location, like a WikiProject Deletion sorting branch.
- If you are interested in obtaining a consensus on whether or not the page should be deleted, you could bring it up on Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion, but based on past and existing precedents I believe that this page would most likely be kept. Hope this helps. :o) Can't sleep, clown will eat me 08:31, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
This is falling apart again. (The last version that you reverted to, for example, had a big section Hunting in the plains missing). It needs long term semi-protection but I have asked twice on the Protection page and been turned down each time. Can you help, please? TerriersFan 22:29, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
Nice work, you beat me to the block on this guy. It would be pretty amusing though if I was watching him on TV managing a game of the World Series and he was editting Wikipedia at the same time... --W.marsh 01:05, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
AO, AB?
editIn the block log, I was wondering what these two letters meant? Also, some of the IPs you edited have not been vandalising multiple articles, eg. Special:Contributions/128.211.233.134. Am I missing something? -Splash - tk 06:26, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I guess you don't feel like talk page stuff at the moment. I'm going to start reviewing the blocks; I'm also going to replace their durations with ones that make sense. These comedy ones are just confusing and require a calculator where there is any meaningful reason behind the duration at all. -Splash - tk 07:41, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
You know, it's actually fairly important not to ignore people. I can buy the "I'm busy" excuse for a while, even an hour or so. But 3 or 4 hours of solid editing later is really just bordering on rude. What's up? -Splash - tk 18:42, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Allow me to be direct: please stop using silly block lengths. They make life harder for those trying to work out what the hell is going on. Your AO/AB codes are presumably for a bot somewhere to read (yours, perhaps?) after a bot somewhere else has trawled Special:Recentchanges looking for things with "revert" in the summary and blocking IPs on that basis. But the direct part: please try to use intelligible block lengths, even whilst ignoring people. Thank you. -Splash - tk 21:56, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- (copied)I'll take that as a "no, 299 hours is exactly the right length, 298 won't do and neither will 300". But thank you for the reply. To half my messages. -Splash - tk 21:15, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Hello, if I have a suspicion that an author and website owner is editing wikipedia and referencing themselves, would it be a violation of WP:Ref. I’m not going to reveal more because I don’t want to wind up the whole world and I want to tread carefully. Also, if I had a mountain of evidence to prove it, how would I present it and where would I go? Finally in hypothetical terms, let’s say I found out that two published authors and website owners were having quite a well known feud and that it had spilled over wikipedia and that both these articles were using references from each site and each editor were removing them, would that be a breach of anything?
At the moment it’s just a strong suspicion and I’ll no doubt have to go through quite a lot of edits but I’d be grateful for your advice. Englishrose 19:30, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Give me a few days as I've only uncovered it right now and I was expecting to find something dodgy (as I've always found it to be strange for a year) but I wasn't expecting this. I'm going to sound like a dog with a bone but I've certainly found something suspicious. It shouldn't take long to get together, I'll try and be quick as I can. {{sprotected}}
editOn the assumption that you do at least mentally process what appears on this page, can I just remind you to drop {{sprotected}} on pages you sprotect? Makes maintenance, as you might call it, much easier. Thanks. It worries me more than a little that you hardly ever unprotect things, and without a tag, you must be leaving things protected basically forever. Goodness, I'm starting to worry here. -Splash - tk 22:06, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Fine. I'm not really sure why you refuse point-blank to speak to me. Maybe you might take an edit out of your schedule to write a quick note at [4] instead? -Splash - tk 22:22, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Block of User:204.38.172.102
editHi, I've emailed you but haven't gotten a response as of yet (I realize I just emailed you today, but trying to cover my bases). You blocked the IP address 204.38.172.102, who deserves it. The IP address belongs to Whitmore Lake High School, and as such lots of students like humoring themselves with vandalism. However, would it be possible to change the block to allow registered users to continue to make edits? I teach at WLHS and enjoy patrolling the wikispace when I get the chance during the day. Unfortunately, I was unable to make any edits even while logged in because of the block.
Thank you,

Blocks
editI respect you for your vandal fighting and hate to leave a message like this, but could we not block users for 299 hours? More than once in the past I've gone to block a user and found his previous block to be some obscure length of time. I have no idea how long 299 hours is and to be honest I've got better things to do than work out your off the wall block lengths. Thanks. -- Steel 23:44, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Unblock of 216.9.250.6
editG'day fellow insomniac, I think your 1 month long block on 216.9.250.6 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) was a bit of an overreaction to this edit to Rusty trombone which put in context is an article on a sexual position. There's been relatively minor vandalism since the last unblock and all the edits summarised suspiciously as "i can see through time" were newline or whitespace insertion/removal. Are you willing to lift this block? -- Netsnipe ► 05:52, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi,
I see looking at the WikiProject user warnings page, that you are a participant in this project. I have recently started an undertaking to harmonise all user page warnings and templates. For this I would like your assistance. I have listed a number of ideas on the project template page here as a first draft. I fully appreciate that as with most editors and admins, that you are fairly busy. Therefore I am not looking for anyone to carry out the actual work, I am willing to do that myself, with help from a number of other RC Patrollers who have come forward. But what I am looking for is your invaluable input, on the draft ideas and also to suggest other ways you believe we may improve the templates. I do however require the services of a couple of administrators to put into effect some of the new templates, as they are currently protected. Please take 5 mins to look through the new templates page, and both the project and templates talk pages and leave any ideas or suggestions that you may have. Best regards Khukri (talk . contribs) 09:44, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
Antonia Bennett AfD
editHowdy! I've speedy deleted Antonia Bennett as a clear WP:CSD A7 and failure to meet WP:MUSIC. I'm letting you know because I see that you closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Antonia Bennett as Keep. Like my grandfather used to tell me when I was a kid, "Wikipedia ain't no dang ol' democracy", so the veritable plethora of Keep 'votes' may have been given undue weight in your decision. - CHAIRBOY (☎) 14:10, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Auschwitz Concentration Camp
editHi there; I am, of course fully aware of the basic principle underpinning Wikipedia - that anyone can edit. But we both know that some articles attract more than their fair share of vandals, and this page is one. I watch it, you obviously watch it and I'm sure many serious editors watch it, but still the idiots come. Four times this evening (in the UK) so far. While there is clearly no justification for a total protection, would not a partial protection to restrict to established users be reasonable? The site of this camp is particularly highly emotively charged for some people, and to see stupid comments inserted into the article, even though only briefly, is deeply disturbing.--Anthony.bradbury 18:25, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- Been vandalised (and reverted) twice more since my last message. Please give it some consideration.--Anthony.bradbury 23:08, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
unblock-auto
editRegarding HirschiDude (talk • contribs), please don't be so hasty to decline or be paranoid. I know a lot of users are using {{unblock-auto}} when they aren't technically autoblocked because MediaWiki:Blockedtext has instructed them to use it in the first place.
Most of the time they just had their underlying IP addresses blocked since they're either sharing a proxy server or a pool of dynamic IP addresses with another anonymous IP vandal. I tend to assume good faith and unblock their IP address and reset/shorten it as an AO block unless there's a firm correlation between the account's editing history and vandalism to the same articles as an anon.
Anyway, if you use the unblock link for the IP address in the template, it'll record their username in the IP address's block log like our very own unofficial Checkuser, so that if it the same person is creating a lot of vandal sockpuppets and asking for autoblocks to be lifting, the pattern will be very obvious in the block log and we can call in Checkuser to do the rest. I've nailed a few vandal sockpuppeteers using this unblock-auto trick already. Cheers.

- Not a matter of haste or paranoia, but thanks for implementing the anon-only block. As we've discussed before on the mailing list, MediaWiki:Blockedtext is confusing to new users and needs to be streamlined. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 22:12, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- I think we've gotten to the point where we can't do anything else to streamline MediaWiki:Blockedtext anymore because we're talking about are the bloody knee-jerkers who don't have a clue as to what the concept of a shared IP address is, and the other group are people who fire off an email without reading a single word on that page. The only thing left to do is walk people through a checklist of information to send us before we give them the email address for unblock-en-l. I don't see that many people confused about the instructions set out, though I do quite a few people trying to unblock themselves by copying/pasting the post-review templates as well. What do you suggest? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Netsnipe (talk • contribs) 22:30, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- For starters, there is way too much clutter on screen, and far too many options to request block removal. I'll make some suggestions on the relevant talk page in case anyone else is interested. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 22:36, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
Pine Crest School
editHi there. You took out the comments under "Significant Academic Acheivements" on the Pine Crest School page. These comments were:
In the 2006-2007 school year, Pine Crest School ranks as first place in the state of Florida for number of 2007 National Merit Semifinalists. Twenty-nine Pine Crest Students out of a class of 203 students have received the honor of National Merit Semifinalist.
I don't see any direct "source" about the Presidential Scholars etc. and I know the Pine Crest website lacks most of the information that is found on the page. What kind of sources do you need? I go to Pine Crest and know the above statements to be correct. It was published in our school newsletter "Columns" although I've thrown that out and thus don't know the volume number etc. I dont understand why this accomplishment needed a source and the others don't?
Also The Crestian is not free, it is "included in the tuition" it's part of the 17,000+ tuition fee like school lunch - but someone reverted that edit.
What about this sentence: "The Crestian is an annual forensics competition held in January known for its size and quality of judges." Where is the source for that? Why is that allowed to stay? (And actually many people dispute the quality of judges).
And even about the cross country team - they were allowed to run off school until recently? Where's the source for that? It IS correct, they aren't allowed to run off school but there's no source - it's true information but with no source, like the information I wanted to add above.
There are tons of pages on Wikipedia with statements that don't have sources and they get marked as "source needed" but are allowed to stay - and these are pages that are probably of much more relevancy to most Wikipedia visitors.
Why is this page so closely watched? - there are numerous other things that were added (rightfully so) - and in line with the way that the rest of the article has been documented and written. Why all the reverts of new, yet relevant information? I'm a bit confused.
Thanks. Nadsat 03:11, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Requesting Admin assistance
editOn October 21, you blocked IP 71.76.219.92 (talk · contribs) 31 hours for article blanking. The user has returned from his block and has started to edit the same article again. His edits are troubling as they contain lots of original research. Also he is altering a Wiki-project infobox with information not intended for use there and, for some reason, replacing wiki-links with dabs and re-directs. This evenings edits were mirrored by a logged in user, Dume7 (talk · contribs). The edits seem to flip flop between Dume7 and the Anon IP. I made several attempts at correction with very clear edit summaries but they were ignored. I posted on both users talk pages about the edits and provided links to WP:POL and its policy sublinks. The user then revealed on the IP talk page that(as I suspected) the 2 were 1 in the same and if I wanted to continue my conversation with 71.76.219.92, I was to do it on Dume7's talk page. I re-iterated to the user to read the Wikipedia Policy page(the user believes them to be "loose" guidelines). I also directed the user to read WP:SOCK as well. I don't think my advice will go very far. As you are the last Admin to have any sort of history with the editor I was hoping you may have a spare minute or 2 to speak to the user and, perhaps, word things better than I did. I feel they have something positive to contribute. But for now the users edits are a bit troubling. Thanks, Cheers and take care! Anger22 01:31, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

editHello, CSCWEM. I thought I should alert you to a possible impersonator, as I saw this slightly dodgy userpage on en:wikt : [5]. Can you confirm or deny that you created that account? If it is not you, I can alert the wikt admins to the impersonation. If it is you, then welcome to wiktionary and hurrah for being direct about your sexuality (but it is somewhat in the style of the GNAA, thus arousing suspicion). Rotating IP linkspammer
editThank you for taking care of the block. From the article names it is clear they were working their way alphabetically through articles. Is there any way to see further back than 500 edits in recent changes, or to find earlier edits in that IP range? I've reverted the ones I could reach, but I'm sure there were others earlier in the alphabet that I can't find. SWAdair 09:22, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- It would really be nice if Special:Contributions allowed subnetting... I'm not aware of any way to easily backtrack, there is something like 100-120 active IP addresses between those two AOL ranges. Check with Voice of All maybe? He does have a bot specifically equipped to revert AOL vandalism, it may be able to retroactively correct these edits. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 09:30, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Confused
editI am busy on recent changes patrol and came across a number of administrator type edits by a new user who was leaving indefinite block messages on user pages. Initially I thought that this was vandalism but saw that the user was in fact indefinitely blocked. My questions are:
- Why would a new user be posting these messages?
- Why would a user be indefinitely blocked after only 3 attempts at vandalism, 2 warnings and no prior blocks. I'm referring to Undertaker987654321.

Re. Georgewilliamherbert
editThank you for contacting me about my position on Georgewilliamherbert's RfA. I made a more thorough analysis of his contributions and I decided to change my stance to weak support, although I still retain my previous reservations. Nonetheless, I see no major cons from this user really, no indication that he would abuse of the tools, and he definitely seems to know his way around. editConsidering that it seems like one of us is reverting some sort of penis-related vandalism on the hot dog page twice a week or so, so you think it would be appropriate to create a specific warning template that politely points out that such vandalism is entirely unoriginal and was last funny in 2004?
Probably not, I just needed to blow off steam before I rip someone a new one for thinking that they are so damn clever for comparing the sausage and the appendage. Anyway, cheers and keep up the good work. youngamerican (ahoy hoy) 17:47, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Blanking of warnings
editOn 27 Oct you declined an unblock request from an anon-ip that has been a source of persistent vandalism. A user of the IP has now blanked the talk page and its multiple warnings. I know the placing of warnings for removal of warnings has become controversial (the WR templates have been deleted), so rather than revert the blanking, I thought I'd consult a sysop who'd been involved with this IP about what to do. That's you :) . What to do? --Rrburke 21:58, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- Its all relative, depending on the type of IP address, whether or not its still blocked, and the time since it was last used. I'll put something that makes sense in its place. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 22:01, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Block of 63.23/16
editHey... your recent (2 days ago) block of a large chunk of the UUNet dialup account IP space ( [13] ) seems likely to cause excessive collateral damage, and we got a complaint on unblock-en-l already. Is this anon-only or a full block? The template used in the block message doesn't say...

editThanks for removing the Gay vandalism in the Elijah Wood early years bio. I was doing that myself while you were in the very act and was quite puzzled why I saw the diff. but could complete the edit. Refreshed and lo and behold. What to do about 159.105.80.92?
editThe user has never made any contributions except to talk pages, and virtually all appear to be for the purpose of trolling: the comments, always provocative and sometimes including PAs (see latest at Talk:Ernst Zündel), are rarely about the article, and nearly always about the subject of the article. Signature topic: the Holocaust. Get the picture? --Rrburke 21:56, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
RfA thanks

Needless to say, I am very suprised at the huge levels of support I've seen on my RfA, and at the fact that I only had give three answers, unlike many other nominees who have had many, many more questions! I'll be careful with my use of the tools, and invite you to tell me off if I do something wrong! Thanks, Martinp23 14:59, 18 November 2006 (UTC) |

Sealand imagery
editHi, I'm puzzled as to why you reverted the edit by user:Iamtheactor. The edit I reversed was an obvious test when the image [[Image:Example.jpg]] was used. The second edit was an image that the editor uploaded. I am not questioning your decision, but it would be useful if the editor was told what about the image is not allowed. Is it because it is autobiographical? Thanks, LittleOldMe 11:09, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing this out to me. While I was monitoring things from the Anti-vandal tool I thought it had rolled back the Example.jpg test edit. What are your thoughts regarding the second image, Image:POS2.JPG? While I can appreciate that they've freely licensed these group photos, I'm not sure what value they're bringing to the micronation article, and Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest may apply as well. If you disagree, please feel free to restore the image, just not at the full 1955x1300 resolution. ;-) Can't sleep, clown will eat me 11:20, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- No, I do not disagree at all. I also cannot see why Wikipedia would need 3 very similar photos. I considered adding a speedy to at least 2 of them that are unlinked, but was not sure what tag was appropriate. I'm still quite new to this and I'm familiarising myself with the guidelines as I go. LittleOldMe 11:37, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- Correction. They are 3 identical images. LittleOldMe 11:40, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Article without references
editI need some advice on the Cassie article. The majority of the content is unreferenced and I can't find any sources for it. It's been tagged with the unreferenced template for 5 days now. Obviously I don't really want to remove virtually the entire content from the page but if no one's able or willing to provide citations I don't really have another choice (per WP:CITE). Should I go ahead, "be bold", and move all the uncited content onto the talk page and hope someone can add citations rather than them just re-adding the unsourced material? Any other ideas/opinions? Thanks —B33R Talk • Contribs 13:03, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

- Just got your email. That's probably the only Wiki task I can't do, I'm useless at sourcing material. Maybe it's just because I'm unfamiliar with the subjects. My watchlist tends to acquire articles when I'm reverting vandalism and removing link spam, they're usually the articles that are lacking references. Articles like Danity Kane and Sheryl Crow, I have no idea where to start on either of those, I don't even know who Danity Kane are!
- Maybe I'll look for something I am familiar with and add some references. Thanks for the inspiration! :-) —B33R Talk • Contribs 22:30, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Image:Murderball - Mark Zupan.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Murderball - Mark Zupan.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Abu Badali 01:09, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Block of 62.6.139.11
editYou are currently listed as the user responsible for the block of IP address 62.6.139.11
The very first entry of the discussion page contains this note:
"This is an outlet from NHS Net, thus there are around a million people technically behind it, 70 000 or so of them doctors, similar numbers other healthcare professionals, as well as management and all the rest. There is likely to be a prat among them, and also if the exact timing is passed back to the operators of the network, there is likely to be some slight interest in who they are.
Blocking the whole thing may be a rather more drastic action than if it was, say, a medium sized company or even ISP. Midgley 16:39, 6 March 2006 (UTC)"
A total block is stopping a large number of doctors, professors and other health care professionals from adding their valuable knowledge to the wikipedia.
These people may well not have the time to register. As such, the block is liable to be blocking many legitmate edits by experts. --Cooper-42 12:59, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi ... I need help from an Administrator regarding this page ... newbie User:Amerigasanmichele does not have a basic grasp of Wiki markup (just see her User Page), and has ignored warnings on her and other Talk pages ... the obit/bio article she created for her father, Dr. Lorenzo R. Nelson, was at first redirected, then became victim of a Speedy Delete within a week ... she also did a huge copy&paste from another website to Meharry Medical College, leading to a rewrite of the article by another user.
What I'm asking is if you could keep an eye on this article ... I know America Nelson (Amerigasanmichele) personally--her father and mine were veterans of the 366th--and I do not want to see her blocked from editing right now (she's still learning), but in the future I might have to ask that the article be protected ... her latest edit was to put ~~~~ on the main article page (twice!) because she does not understand that signatures only go on Talk pages (but, at least, now she knows how to leave a signature. :-)
Anywho, I've sent her emails about this, and asked her several times to stop making edits until she learns what she's doing, but I would appreciate it if she also heard it from Someone Else (i.e., an Administrator), either on her Talk page or by email ... but not until the next time she mucks up the article, hence my request for you to put it on your watchlist.
No need to reply to me right now ... I just wanted to give you a "heads up" that I might be asking for an Intervention regarding this article and user in the near future ... Thnx! —Dennette 05:11, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- <Sigh!> As I feared, she has returned, creating a new page for her father (she fixed up her User page and copied it to Lorenzo Raymond Sylvanus Nelson, which is what she did before), and has done a sloppy job of adding links for him to the 366th page and her and her father's alma-mater ... she does does not seem to grasp WP:BIO, but she has learned that "Notable ..." in an article means that the individual has a WikiBio to which they can be linked, although the ones she has added for her father will soon be redlinked again (I didn't have the heart to put a {{db-bio}} tag on it myself.) Thnx for your help, and maybe she'll listen to someone else. —Dennette 02:19, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Jack Spicer
editI'm sure you're busy enough, but if you have a second, I have put a {{db-move}} tag on Jack Spicer. The original Jack Spicer page, to which a lot of stuff links, was moved to Jack Spicer (poet) by Iodyne (talk • contribs), who then put a cut and paste copy of Jack Spicer (Xiaolin Showdown) at Jack Spicer. The links are screwed up, and we have two articles on the anime character. I appreciate that this isn't really db-move territory, but drive-by cut and paste moves are not very nice. Could you move Jack Spicer (poet) back to Jack Spicer please ? If Iodyne wants to move it, (s)he should really fix the links first. The real name of Cap'n Crunch
edit"This is free-encyclopedia. You recently edited the page on Cap'n Crunch. You took out my comment about how his full name was Horatio Magellan Crunch, and put something at the top about how how the page does not site its sources or something. Well, I found the fact in the reliable book by Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings, Braniac. I could not find the same fact anywhere else on the Internet (aside from Wikipedia, where I put it), so I couldn't cite the source. I just wanted to run it by you. Unless you object, I would love to re-enter that fact, because it is my personal favorite of all of my contributions.Free-encyclopedia 02:26, 28 November 2006 (UTC)" (Moved by -WarthogDemon 02:28, 28 November 2006 (UTC))

Grenslade cres
editYou deleted Grenslade cres as "Speedy G4" [18]. However, its log shows no evidence of an AfD deletion, and its AfD was never closed. Were you repeating the speedy-deletion? (In this case, it would be an A7 redeletion, using the same criterion as last time, rather than a G4, which "does not apply if the only prior deletions were speedy or proposed deletions, although in this case, the previous speedy criterion, or other speedy deletion criteria, may apply".) I'm asking because I'm no longer sure what to put in the AfD closing reason. --ais523 10:09, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Joe Satriani revert
editSo let me see if I understand this correctly. This piece already states : - "Satriani falls into the category of guitar virtuosos who primarily achieve speed through hammer-ons and pull-offs" A fact that no guitarist would argue with, and yet is uncited, and not verified in any way. If I then add a section on his technique, suggestion that he uses Legato phrasing as a recurring theme, it gets removed within seconds.
Who says he is a virtuso, for example? Where is that cited? I'm not trying to have a go at you here - don't get me wrong! But what exactly constitutes a citation for the fact that Joe Satriani is well known for using Legato? What about this? [[19]]? I guess that wouldn't be good enough, because it is just the 'instructors' opinion. In which case, why have such phrases as "Satriani falls into the category of guitar virtuosos who primarily achieve speed through hammer-ons and pull-offs", or words like 'virtuoso', because they are not verified, and are subject to the writers opinion?Mikejstevenson 12:53, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- The Satriani revert was by Anger22 [20] but in any case citations are needed and this looked like editorializing. If he is well known for a method of guitar we need to provide a reliable citation that says so, and I'm not sure that this guitar lesson website would count as one. When in doubt about a particular source, just leave a message on the talk page of the article. Please let me know if you need any help adding sources with a specific cite template. Kevin Federline
editGreetings Clown, I recall that you were one of the admins who helped maintain the Kevin Federline article. I've spent appreciable time cleaning that article up, as many of the entries were slurs. If you check my "talk" page, you'll even see a couple of folks disenchanted with my work. One of them was angry that I wouldn't accept his myspace page as a source, when that person mentioned that Federline tickets were being given away for free in a local periodical. Another wikipedian was angry that I kept removing his "Britney Spears/Kevin Federline Sex Tape" contribution, as it was an unsubstantiated slur that was initiated by a notoriously unreliable British tabloid.
There is a new problem. Some individual seems to have taken issue with the music critiques. As you are probably aware, Federline's album has received some of the worst reviews in the history of the music business. If anything, Federline is notable now for the overall commercial failure of the album and concert tour, as well as for the scathing reviews. The reviews were so bad, in all likelihood his status as a celebrity and recording artist will endure (think Ed Wood). Though it isn't mentioned within the Federline article, one veteran industry observer mentioned that the CD had the poorest reviews in the history of the business. Another industry publication quantifies the music industry critical reviews, and then averages them for an overall grade. The Federline CD received the lowest score within the 11 year or so history of such ratings. That also isn't within the article.
This individual (Michaelh2001) has taken it upon himself to be a censure. He has erased most of the bad reviews, leaving the only positive review (the Ron Harris review, which I contributed earlier). Further, he accuses me of only editing out positive remarks and leaving in the negative. I'm not sure if he's a fan, or someone who is confusing balance and objectivity with being "nice". One thing is certain: He's made false accusations on my character, and has threatened to start a revert war.
I've been working hard on this article, and though parts of it are not flattering to Federline, it presents the most comprehensive and authoritative views on Federline.
Could you please review his actions? I'd appreciate your impartial view, in that you've also helped monitor this article.EdwardG 18:43, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

editThanks for catching those changes to the Jack Spicer article. That person who made the change would be very surprised to find out that Jack Spicer is very well known and famous today especially in the United States, England, and France.

- What positions do you hold (adminship, mediation, etc.)?

Portfolio for ArbCom
editOn Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee Elections December 2006/Summary table, I added a column "Examples" with links that exhibit a candidate's arbitration skills. My motivation is that as a voter, I don't want to just rely on a candidate's words, but also see their actions. Moreover, I believe a portfolio of "model cases" to remember in difficult situations can be useful for each candidate, as well.
So far I have entered examples for the candidates who registered first (from their questions page), and I'm not sure if and when I will get to yours, so you may want to enter an example or two yourself. — Sebastian (talk) 05:28, 4 December 2006 (UTC) (I may not be watching this page anymore. editI notice that you've previously fixed some stuff on the Epicanthal fold article, thus I direct my request to you, as I'm new here & don't know how to do them myself. 1) The pic of the young woman has some vandalism to the copyright notice. 2) The other pic says it was cropped from a larger pic. The link to that larger pic is broken. Thanks! Mpwrmnt 06:39, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hello Mpwrmnt. I'd be glad to assist you, but I'm not sure I see what it is you're referring to? The GFDL notice for Image:IMG 0878.JPG appears to be in tact; the external link from the second image, Image:Epicanthal fold.jpg, is no longer working, but this is probably just a case of that website shifting their images as opposed to a vandalism issue. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 06:47, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, let me clarify: The copyright notice reads "Copyright (c) 2006 I'm so bored Permission is granted to copy" (emphasis mine). On the other one, I wasn't implying that there was vandalism, but merely asking what use there is in having a broken link. Should it be removed, or does someone have to care enough about it to try to find where that picture was moved to? Thanks for your help! --Mpwrmnt 06:56, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ah-hah, I see now. I'm so bored in this case is just the name of the Wikipedia user responsible for uploading the image. [23] :-) Can't sleep, clown will eat me 07:00, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ahhh - chalk it up to newbie naivete! What about the broken link?--Mpwrmnt 07:33, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- There isn't much we can do about that, unfortunately; you might want to try searching for the link on archive.org. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 07:53, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Lil' Bush page
editAlthough it's unclear why you protected the page (please explain in the future), the show is making news and will likely need a full entry soon. [24] —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.217.121.149 (talk) 07:47, 5 December 2006 (UTC).

Question/request
editOkay, I have a few something to ask.
- Why is my school IP blocked? Is there any way I can ensure nothing happens in vandalism from that?
It would be more convenient for me not to constantly log in from school because the school itself logs our activites and I don't want anyone corrupt in that system either getting a hold of it. It's odd, but yeah... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SBKT (talk • contribs) 18:59, 5 December 2006 (UTC).

Excessive moves
editIf you are an admin, can you pleaase block User talk:Yaksha ? it has come to my attention that that user has made excessive moving of pages without consensus, WP:ANI shows a member of the MedCom agreeing with this request, thank you,
- See here as well [25]
Who to edit?
editCan't sleep, clown will eat me, I am just curious. Im sure Wikpedia has a million of editors, how do admin picks which to edit? Ric168 10:04, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Another Macedonia protection
editCan you also protect {{Political Macedonia}}. It was also used to put penis images in the featured article today. Regards, -- Jeff3000 02:55, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- Three whole IP ranges have been blocked today as a result of this rash of template vandalism, so hopefully that won't be necessary. If you notice any similar problems, please let me know and make a note of it on WP:ANI as well. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 10:54, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
New France
editWas it just me or was the article showing some odd phallic-type image? I was at work and stumbled across the image so reverting it was either successful or not. :: Colin Keigher (Talk) 05:41, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- We've been having some problems with vandalism by way of template tranclusion today, so that's entirely possible. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 05:43, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Help
editI see you're online now (I got conflicted tagging a new article A7 but you deleted it). Portal:Current events/2006 December 8 - it's not nonsense and it seems to be notable enough, but there's POV and formatting issues. I'm up to 3 reverts, should I revert again? We definitely can't have "corrupt bastards" on Portal:Current events. – Chacor 09:42, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. – Chacor 09:48, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Talk page cleanup
editThank you for reverting my talk page. I had actually intended to do that earlier, but got busy and forgot. Good to know others are keeping watch with me. SWAdair 10:46, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Pythagoras
editHi mate, just pointing out that when you reverted some of the vandalism [26] on Pythagoras, you reverted to an already vandalized article. Worth checking for! Aprogressivist 11:35, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- Lovely, thanks for catching any missed vandalism, its rare that it escapes me but does happen. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 11:37, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Probable sockpuppet; but I've never made an SSP report. Help!
editNote: I also posted this request here.
Take a look here. See all the IPs beginning with 58.106?
- 58.106.129.25
- 58.106.131.93
- 58.106.128.233 <- has actually been warned
- 58.106.131.219
- 58.106.220.142 <- new one this morning
All five keep re-adding the same manifesto/speech. I've never made an SSP report before, could you help? Thanks! -- weirdoactor t|c -- 13:17, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Chicken noodle soup, soda on the side
editSorry to bother you but I think DJ_Webstar was deleted in error. The result of the AfD seems to be keep. Am I looking at the correct AfD? Should I WP:DRV it? Cheers. L0b0t 21:58, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Hi, can't sleep ... you deleeted my eLSA Austria article, reason: copy from eLSA homepage. I copied the 8 objectives from MY OWN article of the eLSA site ( http://elsa.schule.at/frame_mitte-e.htm ) , and these 8 objectives are like "The Ten commandments", you cannot change the words. Anything else not ok with this article? Erihum 22:57, 8 December 2006 (UTC) http://nighttrain.wordpress.com/
DJ Webstar
editHi, I'm contacting all deleting admins for this article. You deleted DJ Webstar under CSD A7-repost and later recreation-protected the page on December 1, 2006. I just want to let you know that the original page deleter, Brookie, did not see the AfD for the article. The consensus was Speedy Keep, and the article should have been kept on Wikipedia. Unfortunately, Brookie missed this, so the article was out of limits to other people for nearly two months. However, L0b0t told me about this, and I unprotected the page, deleted your {{deletedpage}} template and restored all revisions to the page. I thought I should let you know since you were involved with the article's deletion. Nishkid64 23:05, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- Sounds good to me, thanks Nishkid. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 23:35, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Could you look at this for me. I have a couple editors that are trying to gang up so they can get their way. The Season 1 page originally had Wikia linking in the headers, for simplicity of getting to each page on Wikia. Well, they decided to remove them per the MOS of linking, and proceeded to put "external links" sections in every one of the Episode sections. When I pointed out 3 MOS that this violated, they revert me and say that I have "invalid reasoning" and that their way is "simplier", and call me out for 3RR. I'd appreciate it if you could give some insight into this. Bignole 22:37, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

ArbCom violation by Johnski
editThanks for blocking the above troll. If you wouldn't mind also taking a look at Harvardy. That one's admitted being a recreation of Johnski, and while he seems to have disappeared for the time being, the Arbcom was pretty explicit in ordering a block on any socks he creates. --Gene_poole 12:03, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks Gene, I will look into this and make a CheckUser aware of this issue. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 12:09, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
Wah! Strange blocked message
editWhile in VandalProof and trying to leave a message, I got the surprising message that I was blocked with a message something like this: "Your account or IP address has been blocked from editing. You were blocked by Can't sleep, clown will eat me for the following reason (see our blocking policy): repeated additions of unsourced and potentially libellous content Your IP address is 69.19.14.43." That may be my IP, I don't know, but since I'm usually signed in, I doubt that's really me. I'm on a HughesNet satellite connection so I'm wondering if that has something to do with it. Obviously I'm able to leave this message so perhaps this is just some odd glitch in the system. Much of my work is WikiGnome and anti-vandal stuff so I don't think I've done much in the way of unsourced or libelous content. Actually, I've recently done a lot of sourcing and footnoting on an article. Drop a line if you have the faintest idea what this is about. Otherwise I won't bother you unless it crops up again. --Pigman (talk • contribs) 22:14, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
Same as above....
editUh.... My problem is the same as the one above. Supposedly you blocked me because my IP was used by a "Daffy duck1234", who was indefinity blocked. Could you get back to me on this??
Duncan McLauchlan
editMost of the things stated in the vandalized version of the Murray McLauchlin article were rubbish. However, his son, Duncan, was in fact suspended after he destroyed 5 monitors in his school computer lab. His teacher had asked everyone to shut off their monitors. He was on the final stage of a game of Pong. He destroyed the 5 monitors out of frustration. I am wondering whether there is any point to add this to the article. Thank you for your quick response. IP vandal
editHi, this IP is again responsible for serial vandalism across a number of articles. Since you were the last admin to block, I thought I would bring it to your attention. Thanks. Doc Tropics 19:40, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Recreation
editIt looks like vandalizing the Recreation article has become a weird new kind of recreation itself. Hard to imagine why such an obscure, noncontroversial article attracts so much nonsense. I've been reverting lots of silliness but it keeps coming back. Thanks for your help. Casey Abell 13:48, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
