Question from HARKmedia (14:37, 19 June 2024)
Hey CanonNi
Awesome that you're my mentor, thanks for being there...now, I know this is a big no no in wiki-land...but I've began editing an article on myself, ego I know, but I swear it doesn't come from that place! I'm writing it from a neutral standpoint as best I can to provide knowledge on my musical alias Junk Season. A big part of this is just to build knowledge and trust for the artist, and having that come up on search results would be great at shedding light on the project.
I want to give this the best possible chance at being accepted...so as my mentor, what're my chances on a first look from your end? There's still some more references and information I want to add to give it some more credibility/notability. The idea being that this would act as the foundation for others to build upon as it grows.
Thanks! --HARKmedia (talk) 14:37, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Hkendall93 first of all, welcome. I see that you've had a bit of a rough start, but it's good that your appeal was accepted. You have said that you won't make any edits related to yourself, and I will decline your draft for that reason. Don't feel discouraged though, as there are many other things you can contribute to (consider checking out the Task Center). Feel free to ask here or at the Teahouse if you have any other questions. Question from Kharavela Deva (14:22, 21 June 2024)
Hello, as I am a guitarist and a musician. I wanted to make a sandbox about Indian classical music note "Anuvadi" Svara because, Vadi,Samavadi,Vivadi and Varjit Swara is available on Wikipedia but not Samavadi. As a newly joined Wikipedian, I am unable to properly make References and External links. I will make the sandbox but can you make my references and External links proper. --Kharavela Deva (talk) 14:22, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Kharavela Deva sure, I'd be glad to help. I would recommend creating a draft instead of a sandbox though, as sandboxes are more for testing. User:CanonNi (talk • contribs) 07:42, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from Aline.flament (16:27, 28 June 2024)
Hi CanonNi, I am trying to publish an article in the name of the company (Westlake Epoxy) I am working for but my article was rejected.
This submission does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Entries should be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources. I should rewrite my submission in a more encyclopedic format and avoid peacock terms that promote the subject.
I don't know what they mean and how to proceed. Could you help me?
Thank you! Best regards, Aline --Aline.flament (talk) 16:27, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Aline.flament first of all, you need to declare your paid editing status. I've left a message on your talk page explaining how. Your draft is currently promotional in tone, with sentences like
Westlake Epoxy maintains stringent quality control processes to ensure that its products meet the highest standards of performance and reliability
, and is poorly sourced. Please see Help:Your first article and Help:Referencing for beginners. User:CanonNi (talk • contribs) 00:33, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
Question from Carodet (08:20, 4 July 2024)
Hi there! I need to change the title of an article as the name of the institution mentioned is incorrect. It currently reads 'City Law School' whilst its brand name is 'The City Law School'. Do I need to make a request via the forum to achieve this? Or is there a quicker way since this is the entity's legal name? --Carodet (talk) 08:20, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Carodet, The process of changing the title of an article is called a move. Usually this is done because the current title does not fit our guidelines on article titles. If the move is straightforward and nobody objects, make a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests, and a page mover will do it for you. However, IMO, this case is rather complicated, as generally 'The' isn't included in article titles. But... City Law School seems to have an emphasis on the 'The' in its title, so a technical move might be challenged. Therefore, what I would do is to start a discussion called a requested move on the talk page. Let me know if you have any other questions. User:CanonNi (talk • contribs) 08:27, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you. This is really helpful, however I do not understand how to use the request form. Apologies for wasting your time. Thanks for your reply. Carodet (talk) 15:19, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- No wories at all! The process can be a bit confusing for newcomers. I've started the discussion for you, so all you need to do now is reply to my comment on the talk page with your rationale for the move. User:CanonNi (talk • contribs) 02:52, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

Question from RKenDo on Newcastle Customs House (08:53, 25 July 2024)
hello, I am responding to the excessive intricate detail issue. I am a new editor, is it OK for me to delete a lot or do I need to stick to the punctuation copy edits for a time before I can make larger edits? thanks! --RKenDo (talk) 08:53, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
- @RKenDo common ways to address the issue are to: a) split some of the content, if the excessive detail is valuable, or b) deleting trivial information. The solution you use is up to you. Now, if you're not comfortable with a large task like this, consider doing small tasks, such as punctuation copy edits you mentioned. Thanks for asking, and welcome! Question from Digital.Writers (14:21, 26 July 2024)
Where I should put link in the edit article or post ? --Digital.Writers (talk) 14:21, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Digital.Writers I'm not sure I understand your question, but do not add unrelated external links to articles, like you did here. Doing so may be considered promotion and is prohibited. User:CanonNi (talk • contribs) 14:23, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

Question from AlphaSigmas (04:45, 28 July 2024)
How do you edit properly? --AlphaSigmas (talk) 04:45, 28 July 2024 (UTC)
- @AlphaSigmas that's a broad question, kinda like "How do you build a house"? There are many parts to editing properly, but in general, you should follow relevant policies and guidelines, as well as the Manual of Style, where applicable. Do you have a specific page you need help with? User:CanonNi (talk • contribs) 07:58, 28 July 2024 (UTC)
