Noted your change to the Suisan B-29 crash. Be careful of the sources. The Check Six website is entertaining but cannot be counted on for accuracy. Example - they list the first X-31 as having flown 292 missions, but it actually crashed on its 67th flight. Building a case for a RfC/U

edit

Hello! I am currently in the process of putting together a Request for Comment/User conduct regarding the potentially disruptive editing by user Tim Zukas. It is pertaining to this user's continued refusal to cite sources properly, including on some articles with GA status. As you can see on his talk page here, this has been going on for quite some time now. I am asking for your input due to the fact that you have commented on this user's talk page about these problems.

If you would be so kind, please pop over and take a look at the draft I have created for the RfC/U and add your comments. If you would like to be a part of this, let me know and I will keep you posted once it is ready to be submitted.

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Ferris Red Oak Muni a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. I've moved the original page to the correct title and nominated the "leftover" new page for deletion. Home Lander (talk) 18:28, 3 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, I was unaware that there was a better way to change the page title! Also made a couple of tweaks to the intro paragraph to reflect the name change. Carguychris (talk) 18:30, 3 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Colorful timelines

edit

Hi Carguychris,

I see you've been adding all sorts of colors in some car timeline templates. A lot of them appear to be linked to where they were built or by whom. I have to ask, is this really necessary or useful? The primary function of these timeline templates is to show what models were available when. They're also grouped by body type or size. Any other info can be found in the model pages themselves. IMO, the extra colors just distract from the rest of the timeline. Keeping the timelines as simple as possible makes them easier for everyone to follow. --Vossanova o< 21:06, 18 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

The practice of using color codes for models offered in some markets and not others is fairly common on automotive timelines. I could not find a WikiProject timeline style guide so I got creative. Suggest that we move further discussion to the timelines in question. Carguychris (talk) 21:55, 18 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Table is becoming overlong

Hi. I prefer to write on your talk page. Yes I agree with you concerning the length of the list, which I contributed adding, since last June, approximately over 900 airlines and it's no over. To split the table into smaller would be the solution. I adopted this system in the List of lighthouses in Italy. The current table would be divided by State using the cut and paste method. Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport into McDonnell Douglas DC-10. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa (talk) 21:13, 16 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Shannon Airport

edit

2600:1700:3681:2300:6475:9F90:C767:178B (talk) Hello, I am respectively coming to you today to discuss about the Shannon Airport page. I noticed that you have been removing the slot 'Delta Airlines' as well as 'United Airlines' including their respective seasonal scheduled non-stop destinations of 'New York's John F. Kennedy' and 'Newark's Newark Liberty International Airport.' In news articles and websites, it states that Delta Airlines (and possibly United Airlines) will resume their seasonal scheduled non-stop routes in the summer of 2022 (while a date hasn't yet been confirmed). To remove these airlines and destinations from this webpage constitutes them as rescinding all rights to their respective routes and route network in which either airline has not yet engaged in as of January 14th, 2021. I ask of you to please do not delete these entries as deleting them would constitute them as permenantly not servicing the route which is incorrect. Thank you for your cooperation and hope that we can work together to solve the issue! :) https://www.shannonairport.ie/passengers/destinations/airlines-serving-shannon-airport/ (Delta and United are both on the airport's webpage); http://clareherald.com/2020/08/delta-drops-shannon-service-until-2022-at-least-28222/.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:3681:2300:6475:9F90:C767:178B (talkcontribs) 23:16, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Not that you weren't right to take the repeated inline mentions of the Times-Union out, but ... I have put the name of the source into a lot of stories because I've had far too many random new editors put {{fact}} tags after sentences like that, remove them entirely or, worse, freak out on the talk page, because they believed it to be stated without attribution (usually because the footnote was several sentences away) and therefore unsourced. It's a sort of defensive habit I've gotten into. Daniel Case (talk) 21:21, 15 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Undesignated aircraft

edit

I noticed that you included the M-class and N-class blimps in the list of undesignated Navy aircraft. Both classes were acquired after the adoption of the first Navy airship designation system, so I don't believe there was ever a time when they were in service and undesignated. I would also like to point out that the G-class, K-class, and L-class blimps, while initially undesignated, were later assigned designations under the same system, so we should probably clarify that fact in the notes section. - ZLEA T\C 01:45, 16 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

ZLEA, you are correct about the M-class and N-class, I got carried away. Also, I was already planning on editing the info in the notes to denote aircraft which were subsequently designated. Carguychris (talk) 16:30, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Impressed civil aircraft could probably go in the main tables, with their status as impressed aircraft being noted in the notes cell. I think it would be better to do it this way since a majority of undesignated aircraft after the introduction of the designation systems were impressed civil aircraft. - ZLEA T\C 15:19, 21 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
ZLEA, I was already thinking of doing that, but haven't circled back to it. You may have also noticed that I moved the B-314 to the main 1962 article, since B-314 is technically a designation, just a non-standard one. Carguychris (talk) 15:36, 21 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Technically, the B-314 designation was a company designation, a shortened version of Boeing 314 (the article is a bit misleading, the designation was not assigned by the Navy itself). Criteria for inclusion on the list of undesignated aircraft is that the aircraft never received a designation from a government designation system. - ZLEA T\C 16:36, 21 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Foreign aircraft used for evaluation should probably go in the tables as well. I don't know that any undesignated aircraft used by the US military (no matter to what extent it was used) should be outside the table, because the table allows us to include more information about the aircraft. Perhaps we could color the cells of aircraft which were not used operationally. - ZLEA T\C 19:51, 26 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
ZLEA, I don't see a problem with putting them in the tables, but I suggest simply using the "Experimental" category rather than color coding. I've actually gotten into an editing dispute about color codes in tables! Also, I'm debating creating a table for USCG aircraft, but it seems silly when there will only be two aircraft in it—thoughts? Carguychris (talk) 20:27, 26 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
According to United States Coast Guard, "[The Coast Guard] operates under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security during peacetime, and can be transferred to the U.S. Department of the Navy under the Department of Defense by the U.S. President at any time, or by the U.S. Congress during times of war." Since we are already grouping the USMC with the Navy, it would be fitting to group the USCG with it as well. Also, by "category" do you mean labeling prototypes as "experimental" in the notes cell or having a separate table? - ZLEA T\C 22:25, 26 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
ZLEA, I decided to go ahead and combine the Coast Guard into the Navy table, with an introductory explanation. I put the roles under "Category", but decided to only use "Experimental" when sources indicate that the aircraft was obtained specifically for research, or the sources don't specify the role for which the aircraft was being evaluated. Seversky NF-1

edit

I noticed that you added the designation "FN" to various P-35-related and US Navy designation topics. Given the fact that this source states that the aircraft was never designated as such, and even calls out other sources as wrong, I think it's best to not include "FN" in any US Navy designation lists. - ZLEA T\C 19:04, 31 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

The Andrade book apparently also states that it was designated FN and Baugher doesn't address Andrade's claim. It's a real muddle, hence my effort to put disclaimers on the designation. Carguychris (talk) 20:30, 31 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
The disclaimers are a good idea, but I'm opposed to including it in the USN designations page and template for the following reasons: (1) Joe Baugher doesn't specify which sources he believes to be erroneous, so it is safe to assume that "some sources" includes Andrade's claim. Furthermore, in his list of sources he includes Ray Wagner's American Combat Planes of the 20th Century as the reference for the NF-1 never being designated under the USN system. (2) It would break the norm for the USN to assign a designation to an aircraft which was never actually acquired. (3) Given the fact that "FN-1" is probably a simple typo for "NF-1", it's almost certain that an author saw it and thought it was official and didn't even bother checking for documents. Unless there is an official document indicating the designation "FN" was assigned, a few challenged sources is not enough evidence to include it on a list of USN designations. - ZLEA T\C 20:53, 31 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

A help of Beijing 2008

edit
  • Hello, Carguychris. Sorry for leaving a message on the talk page. A weird thing happened. I created Beijing 2008 (painting) and started to translate the full content from zh:北京2008 (油画). However, the page was moved to the draft. So I marked G7 and ran a speedy deletion. Now I got a warning that if I try to build the same article again, someone would request a page protection.
I have no time on waiting the draft discussion. My timeline is today and I will retire surely. So my current solution is to leave a draft page and quit after translation soon. As I know, a draft will be marked to delete by G13 over 6 months. So do a favor. Just keep the page to avoid deletion request for long time without editing. --Beta LohmanOffice box 11:13, 5 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
    I don't understand. Can't you just save it offline somewhere? Carguychris (talk) 13:43, 5 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Anti-Secession Resolution

edit

This article, Anti-Secession Act of 1861, is confusing and difficult to verify. I recently had a lengthy discussion at the Chinese Tea House to confirm that the two are the same thing, and that there is a huge difference in understanding between the English and Chinese papers. Anyway, Anti-Secession Resolutions of the New York legislature is a historical document that exists, but the Chinese government cited it when they enacted the anti-secession law, and Chinese jurists and the media coined a new term in English that they claimed was a federal law.

So this is a bit awkward. I'm afraid to put it on the discussion page for fear of losing face. I will quietly revise it myself, and the current content may need to be completely rewritten or reinterpreted.--Beta LohmanOffice box 02:13, 19 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. I had been confused by the previous references to the New York law and the new edit resolves the confusion. The new edit seemingly verifies my previous suspicion that the Chinese government was misrepresenting an extant but historically inconsequential (to the US) NY state resolution as an act of the US federal government. Carguychris (talk) 15:50, 19 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • I found another new term when I was looking for information. At the press conference, Wen Jiabao mentioned two anti-secession resolutions in 1861. The first one is this article and the second one is "East Tennessee Anti-Secession Resolutions".
I will add to the article that there is a small problem with the translation. The Chinese media almost translated it as Anti-Secession Act, but the Apple Daily story read Anti-Secession Act = Anti-Secession Resolutions of the New York Legislature, 1861.
I'll try to improve the wording, and if you think there's a problem, you can fix it. As for the East Tennessee resolution, I can only find one source in English. I will place the notice on the discussion page, considering that it will be retired tomorrow and this is the last edit. There is no answer to the rhetorical maze for now.--Beta LohmanOffice box 09:44, 21 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

{https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=George_Santos&diff=prev&oldid=1154463295 This] was correct, and I have thanked you for it. But ... I'm still wondering, under what definition of "euphemistic" can "took his own life" be considered that? I mean, how much more direct could you get? Daniel Case (talk) 18:00, 12 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Phrases describing someone's death have always seemed euphemistic to me when they don't include direct words such as death, deceased, died, killed, etc. (E.g., passed away.) No great science, just my personal opinion. Carguychris (talk) 22:05, 12 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Toyota Camry V6 Petition

edit

Toyota Camry (XV80) has a petition on Change.org, @Carguychris & It says "Put a V6 Engine in the Toyota Camry 9th Generation - Toyota." All you need to do is Search it up on Change.org & find it. 2600:8801:9B13:EC00:3DCC:1118:C253:93BC (talk) 20:09, 24 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

The issue is not that there's no citation. The issue is that anyone can start a Change.org petition for any reason, so they tend towards WP:CRUFT and typically violate WP:USERGENERATED. Change.org petitions can be notable in and of themselves, but this typically requires sources meeting WP:RS that specifically discuss the petition itself. The mere fact that a petition exists does not infer notability. Carguychris (talk) 21:28, 24 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Horseshoe Bend Airport

edit

The article Horseshoe Bend Airport has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG and WP:NOTDIRECTORY due to a lack of coverage in WP:SECONDARY sources excluding WP:RUNOFTHEMILL mentions in aviation-related government and navigational databases. Full disclosure: I am the original creator of this article.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Also:

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 11 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I have removed the {{proposed deletion/dated}} tag from Hall Airport, which you proposed for deletion.

I agree that the article is not notable enough to merit its own article, but the content can be merged into another article to save the information. When proposing articles for deletion, it may be beneficial to review Wikipedia's guidelines on alternatives for deletion. If you still think this article should be deleted, please do not add {{proposed deletion}} back to the page. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks!

Proposed deletion of Valley Mills Municipal Airport

The article Valley Mills Municipal Airport has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG and WP:NBUILD due to a lack of coverage in WP:SECONDARY sources excluding WP:ROTM mentions in aviation-related government and navigational databases. I have already merged all substantive article content with Valley Mills, Texas, so the article name and the airport code redirect may be retargeted there.

edit

Hello Carguychris -- I've declined these as once you have merged the information elsewhere the original article is absolutely required for attribution, see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 23:34, 18 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

For clarity, I believe that you are allowed to merge and blank the original article, but it is necessary to put a notice on its talk page to indicate that the redirect must be retained for attribution purposes, even if the material on the airport is subsequently removed from the target article (because it is retrievable via the edit history). Hope this makes sense, it is a bit counterintuitive! Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 16:02, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Beechcraft Baron production

edit

I saw your update of Beechcraft Baron numbers, and I have a few notes. First, I had only included new builds for each prefix for simplicity. Second, the Textron list only includes aircraft sold to civilian customers, so it leaves out a few company-owned prototypes such as TG-1 which are found in the R.W. Simpson source. And finally, we might need to double check the TF-series. It was my understanding that all TF-series aircraft were conversions from the TC-series, just that it was unclear which serial numbers they were converted from. I may be wrong about that one, though. - ZLEA T\C 17:45, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
